I was born and raised in England where I studied Fine Art and worked for many years in Art colleges while also enjoying training and racing Arabian horses and painting.

I always had a desire to live in warmer climes and now live permanently here in the Algarve with my Brazilian born husband Peter.

I am a qualified Hatha Yoga teacher and also work at a sustainable golf and resort project.

Susan is a very friendly and laid-back host. We immediately felt welcome. As we didn't have a car, she gave us a lift to the village supermarket and waited till we were done to drop us and the shopping back at the house! Her farmhouse is spacious and extremely conveniently located - near the village and the beach and on the edge of a national park. It's very quiet and peaceful. The big plus of the house is the lovely terrace with the sun beds with a view over the surrounding hills. We hadn't been to the Algarve before but we were pleasantly surprised. Burgau is a nice village with quite a few restaurants and the beaches in the surrounding area are stunning.

Wow! From the moment we drove up until the end, it was a truly relaxing holiday. Little bit closer to the road than we thought, but fantastic. Truly recommend it. Plunge pool was useful to cool off in an afternoon. Would definitely go back.

Lovely peaceful villa, very comfortable and equipped well enough for holiday needs

I did have concerns re size of pool initially, but more than big enough to cool off in. We also had a few WiFi issues which wouldn't have been a problem , other than waiting for A level results! Wouldn't have bothered otherwise. Loved the patio and the hammock! and the cats and pony (who all ate very well for the duration of my daughter's stay) The village has some lovely restaurants, but be warned, cashpoint does run out of money and a lot don't take cards. Beach was busy but very pretty.The national park nearby is also worth a drive as the scenery is beautiful. Owner is lovely and friendly and has lots of local knowledge re whats going on. We had three teenagers with us who could have been bored but actually were more than happy to read , sunbathe and relax when it was v hot , followed by trips into Lagos and Portimao later in the day. Loved the medieval festival in Silves. A lovely, relaxed holiday in a peaceful secluded spot, definitely thinking about booking again.

A perfect peaceful retreat

This very spacious and beautiful house has lots of character and is perfectly located in the Costa Vicentina Natural Park, whilst also extremely convenient for the pretty fishing village of Burgau with its sheltered sandy beach and numerous bars and restaurants. The house is very comfortable and Susan was very friendly and helpful giving us lots of local information. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to revisiting.

wonderful place

The Quinta das Estrelas is a wonderful place and was even better than we expected! It is located outside of the village and the protection from the many trees make it a really private place.

Everything was there as in the announcement and we found even more equipment - specially for the beach and kids.

We were surprised by the excellent service with the weekly cleaning and changing of linen and the final cleaning that was included.

The owner was very friendly and helpful and easy to contact.

Quinta das Estrelas

I visited the Quinta with my wife and our two young children. We were made to feel instantly welcome by Sue who greeted us with a bottle of wine and took Emily and James to meet Treacle the pony and Tigger and Piglet the resident farm cats.

The house is very well equipped with everything you might need and has many lovely features having been sympathetically modernised. The extra touches of the beach items and childrens toys were an added bonus. The house is located just outside Burgau village and the protection from the many trees make it a very private place.

The maid service was excellent with a weekly cleaning and changing of linen and the final cleaning also included.

The house was much larger than we expected and next time we will be returning with the grandparents as it is ideal for a 3 generation visit.

The village and beach are delightful with very friendly locals and offers an excellent choice of restaurants. The beaches and nature on this part of the Algarve are stunning to explore.

We are very very happy to have discovered this accomodation and highly recommend it.

Sehr geräumiges und schön eingerichtetes Landhaus. Tolle, ruhige Ortsrandlage. Burgau ist ein hübscher Ort mit netten Kneipen, der vom Haus leicht in 10 Min. zu Fuß erreicht wird. Der schöne Strand ist nur ein paar Minuten weiter. Ideal zum morgendlichen Schwimmen, da die Wellen hier nicht hoch sind. Das Haus ist sehr gepflegt, die Matratzen sind für meine Begriffe sehr hart. Die Terrasse ist groß, es sind auch ausreichend Liegestühle vorhanden. Was nicht ausreicht ist der Schatten. Das es keinen natürlichen Schatten gibt, wären zwei große Sonnenschirme oder ein Sonnensegel wünschenswert. Zum Ende des Sommer (September) ist der Garten wegen der Wasserknappheit sehr trocken und verdörrt.

Location

From the Owner

I searched hard for a property with peace, privacy, countryside views and also near the sea and amenities. I was not looking for a big project but fell in love immediately with this Quinta, even though it was a daunting, dilapidated dwelling. Its location was everything I hoped for, so near to Burgau and in a nature reserve. Over the next couple of years I lovingly restored this neglected old building into its current happy form. We love both the friendly family-orientated beach resorts of Burgau and Luz as well as the more wild beaches of the West Coast. The nearby delightful historic town of Lagos with its old centre is perfect for shopping, nightlife or to catch up on some culture. Everything is very easily accessible from the Quinta: shops, restaurants, bars and entertainment.

Coast/Beach:

Easy 10 minute walk (1km) to the sheltered blue flag beach with beach bar/restaurant at Burgau. This sandy beach is set in a pretty sheltered bay flanked by spectacular cliffs. The Algarve is famous for its beautiful sunsoaked beaches and many more are easily accessible by car all along the coastline. The rugged and wild west beaches of the west coast are a surfers paradise located in a protected natural reserve, whilst the Southern beaches are more sheltered and family friendly.

Travel:

Faro airport is approx 1 hours drive on the new motorway, Seville 2.5 hours and Lisbon 2.5 hours. Car hire is recommended but not essential. A local bus service is available from Burgau village and various trips can be arranged with pick ups in Burgau. Taxi from Faro airport approximately 80 Euros. Train from Faro to Lagos. Take a taxi from the airport to the train station and call us when you are on board. We can pick up from Lagos station.

Distances:

Burgau is the next village west from Praia da Luz. The pretty and historic town of Lagos with its marina and walled town is about 10 minutes drive east. Sagres and the stunning west coast are a 25 minute drive west. The beautiful old Moorish capital of Silves and its castle approx 45 min drive away. Monchique town, mountains and Spa also 45 mins.

Water Parks/Zoomarine approx 40 minutes (also available by pick up service).

Further Details:

Burgau village is a small and picturesque fishing resort. Narrow cobbled streets tumble down to the lovely sandy beach backed by cliffs. The slipway is lined with colourful fishing boats. Winding side alleys weave up to the clifftops with spectacular views. The village has an excellent choice of restaurants, cafes, bars, mini mercados and gift shops to choose from. There is also a multibank machine, newsagents, butchers, mobile post office and fishmonger. There is a surf school in the village. Burgau Sports Centre has a swimming pool, sports facilities and children's activities. At the next village of Praia da Luz, a 5 min drive from Burgau. There is a bank, 24hr multi lingual medical centre, dentist, optician and hairdressers, plus plenty more bars cafes and restaurants. Other activities available locally include 4 golf courses, horse-riding, surfing, water sports, scuba-diving, archery, deep-sea fishing, boat trips, jeep safaris, tennis, gymns, and spectacular walks on inland and coastal paths. The historic and scenic town of Lagos and its marina are just 15 mins away by car. With its buzzing atmosphere, Lagos hosts a variety of bars, restaurants, shops, cafes and street entertainers making its friendly atmosphere a delight by day or night. Lagos shops are open till late in the summer months. Imagine cobbled streets, white washed houses and quaint fishing villages combined with dramatic coastlines, blue skys, many hours of sunshine, a relaxed lifestyle, excellent cuisine, and welcome to the Algarve.

  • Notes on accommodation: Qta. das Estrelas is very spacious, light and airy, combining modern convenience with tradition. All rooms are tastefully furnished with country views. Character features include large entrance hall, traditional Portuguese tiles, terracotta floors and high wooden beamed ceilings. The thick stone walls keep the property warm in winter and cool in summer. For additional comfort fans are provided for summer cool and electric heaters for winter warmth. Lounge and kitchen also have working wood burners. Ideal for couples wanting peace and space or comfortably houses groups up to seven (or 8 with baby). Children are very welcome, but please be aware that the pool area is not safety fenced. Resident Shetland pony (attended to daily) plus 2 visiting cats. Outside: The farmhouse is is approached by a private drive. The house is sited in the centre of the land with no immediate neighbours. The South facing terrace has traditional Santa Catarina tiles and views over paddocks and countryside toward Burgau village. BBQ. loungers, table, chairs and sun umbrella are provided for outdoor eating and relaxation. There is a separate lawned area with 4.6m circular plunge pool (depth 1.2m) and feature bread oven. To the rear of the house are stables, ample parking, paddocks and country views. Enjoy picking your own figs, almonds, plums and grapes when in season. Utility Room: External laundry house containing washing machine, BBQ and beach fun items. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen and towels are provided (except beach and swimming towels). Maid service is provided on a weekly basis to clean the villa and change the linen.
