Villa near Denia, Costa Blanca - Situated in the Luxury Development of La Sella

Villa Maria is situated in the luxury development of La Sella with its 18 and 9 hole hole championship golf courses, 5 star Marriott Hotel and spa, tennis centre, bar, restaurant, shop, pharmacy and riding stables. The house has 3 bedrooms, one double and 2 twin. There are 2 shower rooms, one with a bath and bidet, both with WC. From the terraces there are spectacular views to the sea and the Montgo Natural Park the other side of the golf course. The private pool is one metre deep in the shallow end, accessed by built in steps in the corner of the pool, and 2 metres deep at the deep end. It is a standard 8 by 4 metres in size. There is ample space for the sun-loungers, easy chairs and a table for outdoor eating. For most of the day there is a choice of sun or shade on the terraces around the house and pool. There is an outdoor permanent barbecue.

The local beaches at Las Marinas are superb, with sunbeds and various watercraft for hire, cafes and restaurants. There are really good local facilities for eating out and shopping. The historic town of Denia, with its ferries to Ibiza and its ancient castle and museum, was a port in Roman times. Inland there are many towns and villages to explore including the wine-producing Jalon Valley. Guadalest is less than an hour away by car. The coastal towns of Javea and Moraira are close by with their shops restaurants and beaches.

About Brian Curwain

Mary and Brian had this house built 25 years ago. It is a home to us, though work has meant that, until recently, we have only spent relatively short periods there so far. We have added terracing and the pool over the years.

We are in our late 60's, Brian is a pharmacist who has worked for most of the last 15 years in NHS primary care organisations. He is now a self employed consultant.

Mary started life as as scientist, moved into education and was for 15 years the Chief Executive of the Pre-Retirement Association of GB.

We love to go to Spain for the weather, to go walking and swimming in the pool and sea, for our many friends there, and because it is so different from the New Forest where we live in the UK. We also love to have others use the house and enjoy it.

Why Brian Curwain chose La Marina Alta

Research showed it to be a lovely area with towns and cities, sea and mountains close to hand. Over the years we have never seen another development which is better, in our view, than La Sella, where our house is. We go to walk in the winter, spring and autumn, we love the beach and the old Roman port of Denia (Dianum), just a few minutes away in the car. The beautiful mountain, Montgo, seen across the golf course, is a 'Parque Natural' and the views from the top are simply amazing!

There are 2 airports with UK flights each just about an hour away.

What makes this villa unique

We love the views, the choice of sun or shade on the terraces for most of the day. The pool is on the same level as the living space so it is easy to use and to supervise children and still be in or near the house itself. There are several well marked mountain paths on La Sella itself. Try them in the relative cool of a summer morning.

Lovely beaches are nearby and the port of Denia now has lots of businesses catering for waterborne activities. You can go diving, hire boats and personal watercraft and take a trip along the coast to Javea and beyond. The area is a marine conservation area.

We also like to visit the local towns inland, all of which have markets. There is a wine growing area in the Jalon Valley and some great value restaurants there and in Alcalali, about 10km away. There are also plenty of good local restaurants, and a nice bar/restaurant on La Sella itself.

We had a lovely holiday, it was everything we could have wished for. Although my wife and I had been before we were all impressed with the views, our children (30 and 26!) and their partners included. We all had a really relaxing time. G&S (2013)

We had a lovely, realxing time and the villa is so lovely, peaceful and private. The children had a wonderful time in the pool and improved their tennis skills dramatically thanks to Diego at the club! Mrs B W (2010).

Just a quick email to say how much we enjoyed our week at Villa Maria. The situation was even better than we expected with stunning views over the valley. The villa was very homely and we all felt very comfortable there. We were glad to see that Denia still maintains its charm.

We would definitely consider another holiday at La Sella. Peter and Jean.

Just to let you know we had a wonderful holiday. The villa was great and what stunning views! Spent lots of time horseriding, reading and in the pool.

Notes on accommodation: We regret, due to the spectacular mountainside location, no children under 8 years unless discussed and agreed with the owners. No pets allowed. Outside: Terraces with patio furniture, built in barbeque and outdoor shower. You can choose between sun and shady terraces. The glazed terrace has two pairs of double glass doors which can be opend in the warm weather. MAKE SURE WHEN YOU OPEN THEM TO FIX THEM FIRMLY BACK. Private swimming pool 8m x 4m, depth 1 to 2m. The pool is unsuitable for diving or jumping in. Utility Room: Laundry room with washing machine, iron and ironing board. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: Towels and bed linen are provided, changed weekly. Other: Glazed terrace with dining table.

Great Villa, Wonderful Views, Exceptional service!

It’s always with a little hesitation that we book direct without the usual big travel company assurances but we were delighted by the efficient and welcoming response we received from Brian. The rapid communications and thoughtfulness really do go the extra mile to ensure all goes to plan – great service!

We few into Valencia, the directions provided to a La Sella were excellent.

We've stayed in many villas over the last 20 years and find they tend to fall into two categories, either “for profits” or less commonly a few are homes: this one is most definitely a home; well cared for, loved and a credit to its owners. The personal welcome note was the finishing touch.

We found La Sella, smart and of high standard, the hills are quite steep though and our 1000cc “roller skate” struggled with 5 up, so first gear was a must! The villa is exactly as described and set in a beautiful location, great scenery, peace and quiet, yet local amenities right below on the estate. We made good use of the English speaking shop, who seem to cook croissants all morning to feed local demand! Mas-y-Mas supermarket was well stocked with easy parking just 10 min away and also a full international style shopping centre, (Marina), just a few minutes further.

Our thanks go to Lorraine and Ken, the extremely friendly caretakers, who provided a wealth of useful local information and knowledge. We really enjoyed evening visits to Javier, (Xavier), where quality beach-front restaurants and craft stalls prevail as well as those around the pool and bar-b-que.

L’Albarda Gardens, just 5 mins drive to the bottom of La Sella is worth a visit when you have a couple of hours , entrance by donation!

An excellent restaurant, Punta Benimaquia at La Xara with its al fresco dining under the trees is also a must; just a few minutes’ drive and family friendly.

It’s worth being aware that this part of Spain can become windy in the afternoons, so we found it worth planning to make the most of the pool in the mornings and evenings.

In summary, a wonderful break and we would highly recommend – Thank you Brian.

chill out holiday

We have been going to La Sella for some years now and have been to Brian and Mary's villa two years running. It has a perfect view and many places to sit and eat out. For us it is a complete chill out place. Just down the road is Girmondos where the food is good value and very large portions. There is also a hidden restaurant called Armells this is a must for lunch or an evening meal. Thanks Brian and Mary we have had a lovely holiday.

Uninterrupted views

The views from the villa are truly stunning. The villa is at the top of the mountain and it is modern, clean and comfortable, we really enjoyed our stay. it was very relaxing. Brian is welcoming and accommodating. We have holidayed on La Sella many times but this year we were able to visit the gardens that are on the bottom of La Sella mountain this has long been a wish of mine and I was not disappointed.

Owner's Response: We are so pleased that our guests have enjoyed staying in our house. We bought the plot for its wonderful views and it is great to see that others also appreciate them. on a good day, you can see mountains 100 miles away across the Bay of Valencia. The mediterranean garden at the bottom of La Sella is definitely worth a visit and there are also concerts and other events held there.

We have been in numerious villa's over the past 15 years and this rates as one of the best. The setting was stunning with uninterrupted views across valley and out to sea. The villa itself was as described, it was clean and well maintained with all the facilities you need for a relaxing holiday. The pool and the terrace area was idea for the long sunny days and like the villa it was clean, well maintained and there was plently of lounges, chairs and tables.

The customer service before we traveled and while we were there was second to none.

We would recommend this villa to friends and family and given the opportunity we will make a return visit.
