About the Owner

Growing up in Cornwall I came to appreciate the tranquility and beauty of the countryside. Its increasing popularity, however, meant it lost something of its aura and I jumped at the chance to move to Portugal when the opportunity arose to take on the challenge of developing a business with my mum Jenny. Having spent many holidays in the Sao Bras area, the prospect of making Casa Ferrobo a first-choice destination for discerning visitors was the ideal mix of work and pleasure!

We have had a fantastic holiday, our 2nd visit this year. This must be our 16th visit since 2008 our first year! We did no 9 walk, it was great, saw lots of birds, fish and fabulous flamingos - a must. Roger & Sue Oct 14

Our 2nd visit, a beautiful tranquil place, flowers beautiful, everywhere so clean and tidy. Sylvie & Roy Sept 14

Well here we are again. our 10th year at CF. How Jenny & Tom can make our stay here better and better each time I have no idea but long may they continue to do it. See you next year, Andy & Ali Sept 14

What a lovely place, so glad we found it, just what we needed. Beautiful gardens and really peaceful. Close enough to see everything we wanted and far enough from the maddening crowd! Thank You Loretta & Ludger Aug 14

A very big thank you to Jenny and Tom for our first stay at Casa Ferrobo. What a beautiful place to stay - an oasis. Justin & Lisa Aug 14

Our 3rd visit to Casa Ferrobo but our first with our daughter and son in law. The week has gone so fast as usual. We have loved the swimming and evenings on the bbq area. Jenny, Tom and Peter have gone the extra mile as usual and we have loved it. The birds on the Ria Formosa were brilliant, Faro old town is worth a visit and the trips to the Ilha Deserta were wonderful.

Andrea & Peter Aug 14

Our 7th time now and although only a few days this time better than none at all. Lovely weather with lots of swimming and still managed walks up the hill despite the heat. Sue & Michael Aug 14

First visit for 7 years and still a great place to be. Thanks to Jenny, Tom and Peter for another splendid holiday. Bill & Pat June 14

First time in Portugal, absolutely superb! Weather amazing, made to feel so welcome. Everything clean and tidy and in a wonderful setting. Food everywhere excellent and very reasonable prices. Thanks for a great weeks stay. Phil June 14

Oh what a fabulous week! Weather reaching 30C, relaxing by the pool. Lovely meals out. Everywhere is immaculate, perfect host and hostess with Jenny and Tom. Hope to return in Sept or Oct. Margaret & Garry May 14

Another fantastic visit to Casa Ferrobo! The weather was brilliant and it was so relaxing to chill out by the pool, go on one of the lovely walks in the surrounding area and visit the local restaurants in the evenings. The cottage was extremely clean and when arriving very late to find your fridge has beers and a bottle of wine waiting for you there isn't anything more you could wish for. Thanks again for making our stay so enjoyable. I can't wait to come back! James May 14

We came here to celebrate my 60th and what a wonderful place to do that. Our cottage was a delight to stay in and we made good use of the bbq area. Thank you so much for your hospitality and making our week here so enjoyable. Graham & Michele April 14

Should you wish a location which offers some comfort and tranquility and time "at home" to enjoy the comfort of a beautiful garden, a good book, very agreeable pool and to pick and choose the company of others, this is the place for you. Alternatively, the location offers access to "old" Portugal and access to surrounding walks, whether easy or more challenging, some fabulous beaches after a 30 minute drive through good roads with some breathtaking views taking in local villages or more directlty as you choose. If you need to understand the local geography and facilities, the host Jenny Fitton will be pleased to offer a reliable insight.

Sao Bras offers local facilities by way of supermarkets, bars and restaurants. It is not a tourist attraction but home to a mix of ex-pats and local towns people amongst whom you will be made very welcome. If you are seeking excellent restaurants, you may have to seek out Tavira and Loule for an excellent lunch or travel for dinner. However, Jenny and her son, Tom will point you in the direction of a mix of restaurants within a 15 minute walk which serve good food and wine. All "safe" and if it's not to gourmet standard the consolation is always that you have to work very hard to run up a bill in excess of 50 euros for an enjoyable meal with your partner.

We have made a reservation for next year, which is a first for us. Portugal is well known to us as a holiday experience ( as are other destinations) so our assessment is not without comparison.

Real value for money and if guests have a realistic expectation your expectations will be exceeded.

We all have some holiday "disappointments" this will not be one of them. Just great !!!

Owner's Response: We are delighted to receive such a splendid review from Mike. 90% of our guests have stayed with us previously but it is always a thrill for a 'newcomer' to enjoy themselves so much and to book to return the following year is an added bonus and makes all the hard work worth while. Thank you.

From the Owner

The rural Algarve is a far cry from the crowded coastal strip and harks back to the bucolic Cornwall of yesteryear - but with far better weather! Village life revolves around the seasons, the land and community spirit hard to match, whilst nearby Sao Bras de Alportel oozes the charm of an old Portuguese town. With Faro airport only 17 kms away, our lovingly converted old cork-oak farm in the limestone hills of the Barrocal is perfectly situated for exploring mountains, beaches and picturesque historic towns, whilst the rugged Atlantic coast, the wildlife-rich Alentejo and the Spanish Province of Heulva are an easy day trip.

From the Owner

With the beautiful hills of the Serra da Caldeirão rising beyond the pool and terrace and the endless beaches of the Ria Formosa Nautural Park just 25 minutes drive away, Casa Ferrobo is the ideal location for an active or relaxing break as anyone could want. Being off the tourist radar, local prices are as attractive as the landscape and our nearby restaurants and bars are hard to beat. Being keen ramblers mum and I have developed a wide selection of self-guided walks deep into the wildflower-drenched countryside, exploring the captivating landscapes and discovering the rich heritage of this endlessly fascinating rural Arcadia.

  • Notes on accommodation: The cottages are in a courtyard setting and are decorated in the traditional Algarvean style. Fans/Air conditioning supplied. Heating, if required, is included from November to April. Washing machine available for small charge. Sorry, no pets. Accommodation is not suitable for children. Outside: An impressive feature of the property is the large 12 x 7 metre swimming pool and attractive gardens. Filled with exotic plants, there is a mass of colour from the many varieties of trees and shrubs. At various times of the year, there are the heady scents of orange, lemon, almond and "Angels Trumpets" for you to enjoy. Additionally, the mature palms around the pool afford you welcome shelter from the mid-day sun, which can give you a healthy tan even in the winter months. Pool towels and mattresses for the sunbeds are supplied and will be found in your cottage. We also supply beach towels and there are beach chairs for small hire charge. To round off the day, why not enjoy a "sundowner" (or two) on the pool terrace, complete with a BBQ and purpose built Pagoda and watch one of the Algarve's famed sunsets.
