There is a seasonal communal swimming pool with private poolside bar. You are a 15 minute walk from the unspoilt beaches of Praiha do Vau and of the town of Alvor. If you are a golfer, Alto Golf Course is only a 3 minute drive away. Many other golf courses within a short drive away. Changeover days are flexible - book when it suits you best! And, our most helpful property manager will meet with you the keys and show you around the apartment.

About Joyce Smalley

We live between Niagara Falls and Toronto on Lake Ontario in a small town called Stoney Creek. We have 4 wonderful children and 6 amazing grandchildren (all under 11 years old)! We are now both retired - I was formerly a Special Education Teacher and my husband, Mike, was in Retail Management. We have always kept ourselves busy with Property ownership and management also. My husband and I chose The Algarve as our 2nd home because people are helpful and kind, it is safe and the food and beaches are out of this world! We have made some wonderful friendships.

Why Joyce Smalley chose Alvor

The Algarve has terrific weather year round and our apartment is just 15 mins walk to the fabulous beaches and village with amazing restaurants. You can drive up to Monchique Mountains for a leisurely Sunday lunch with the locals or walk to the Alvor and have fabulous fish or seafood in one of the many great restaurants. Alvor village also has many pubs and cafes! Most anything that you want is just a short walk away. You may wish to just soak up the sunshine by the pool or on our huge private terrace - BBQing one of the many fishes caught locally and have some fabulous Portuguese wine! Seville and Lisbon are only a 2 hour drive away.

What makes this apartment unique

We have one of the most well-furnished, comfortable, apartments PLUS FREE use of desktop Computer with high speed internet, FREE long distance phone to Western Europe, Canada and the US, and WIFI. We also have a collection of over 100 popular books and 200+ DVD movies. . . anything to make your stay in our "home-away-from-home" more comfortable. When we go to visit, we really enjoy sitting on the terrace with views of the ocean and Monchique Mountains. There's sun all day but you can also sit under the umbrella, if you wish. One comment that we get time and time again -"we didn't expect your apartment to be this nice! We will definitely be back!" And. . . many families and couples have come back time and time again.

Just to let you know we are back from alvor and had a lovely holiday. Everything went to plan, and we were very impressed with the yellow fish transfers. I think that Alvor was a great choice for us, and was a delight to stay in your apartment. Your plants are thriving and enjoyed a couple of drinks over the week. The weather was perfect and we used the pool several times as well as many trips to the beach. We’ve all fallen for the hammock on the patio and the lovely buzz of the night life in the old town. What a fabulous place for a vacation! Our first time in Portugal, and what a wonderful country and place to stay. It was perfect for the 2 couples with the layout of the bedrooms & baths at opposite ends. All the facilities are 1st class from the fridge to the stove to dishwasher & washer - you couldn't ask for more. The views from the huge terrace is breathtaking & so close to amazing beaches! Outside: Very spacious, private balconies with large gas barbecue, tables, chairs, sun umbrella and lounge chairs. Views of Monchique Mountains and sea. Sun all day! Communal, seasonal swimming pool with pool bar that serves light lunch, snacks and drinks. Smoking only outside the apartment. Utility Room: There is a built-in washing machine in the kitchen. Plenty of hanging racks outside which can be moved inside if needed. Cleaning supplies provided. Cleaning / Towels / Linen / Maid service: All linen for bed, bath and kitchen are provided. Please bring own beach/pool towels. Final cleaning upon departure. The only complaint we have ever had is that the photos don't do justice to the upscale furnishings and views. Other: All upscale furnishings and very well maintained. Granite breakfast bar, Stained glass windows, upgraded area rugs, and fully furnished kitchen with ample cooking and serving supplies. Staples included in kitchen ie. oils, seasonings, flour, sugar etc.

Lovely apartment, fabulous sunny terrace

Had a great 15 night stay here. The apartment was very spacious with everything that you could need provided. Booking was very easy. The owners were very helpful and fast to respond.The apartment was a short 20 minute walk to the shops and restaurants. We found a really handy little supermarket a 5 minute walk away with a good selection of stock. Merlot red wine lovers will like the marques de borba which was available everywhere for around 5 euros a bottle. Great selection of restaurants and some really lovely beaches. We hired a car for a couple of days and visited albufeira, lagos and praia de rocha but we didn't really need it for alvor, everything was within walking distance and taxis were readily available to take us back up to the apartment if we couldn't be bothered to walk and they only cost around 4 euros. We highly recommend this apartment and resort. Thankyou for letting us stay. Steven and Julie Mitchell

Excellent place to stay.

Lovely apartment, good price, well equipped, brilliant host who responds straight away to any problems. 15 minute downhill walk to Alvor - cheap taxi ride back. Good size balcony with excellent views across the town and country. We will hopefully return

Lovely flat in Alvor.

The flat lived up to and surpassed our expectations. Very well equipped and spacious with a lovely terrace. We had everything and more for a relaxing stay. We liked Alvor and found it a good centre for excursions into the hinterland and to the west coast.

This is a gorgeous property

Fabulous wrap around terrace with views. This penthouse 2 bedroom, 2 bath is beautiful. It comes completely furnished with a great layout and all the kitchen equipment anyone could ever need. Excellent location close to town. Spotlessly maintained. Property manager is available 24/7 and very responsive. I would rent this property again in a heartbeat.

Lovely apartment

We had a very enjoyable stay at this extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean apartment, situated 15 mins walk from the beach and 29 mins walk from the small town of Alvor. Fully equipped and a real home from home. The large balcony/ sun terrace was a real plus point giving us lovely peace, quiet and privacy. Highly recommended

Loved it

This place has everything we needed and wanted for our vacation. The weather was beautiful in Algarve this winter so my family and I were quite pleased with our vacation. Walked to the beach and many amenities, and spent time on the wrap-around balcony. We will be back, amazing value here.

15 minute walk to the beautiful Alvor beach or 10 minute walk to centre of Alvor. Beaches are beautiful with fine sand, caves and quiet beach restaurants/pubs. Many, many seafood restaurants and pubs/bars. Many great restaurants only 3-5 minute walk away!


Approximately a 45 minute drive from Faro airport and 2.5 hour drive from Lisbon airport.

For freedom and flexibility car hire is a tremendous benefit. If you would like to hire a car you will need a full driver's licence held for over a year and you must be at least 21 years of age. The best way to hire a car is at either airport. Car parking is available in front of the apartments.


Seville, Spain and Lisbon are only a 2 hour drive.

Further Details:

The quaint fishing village of Alvor is located between 2 large towns: Portimao and Lagos. The village has many bars with live music and different types of restaurants and pubs. Many restaurants are within a 5/10 minute walk. Shops of all sorts can be found throughout. Water sports are available on the beach e.g. sail boats, windsurfing and waterbikes.
