About David Isaacs

Hello, I am David Isaacs, I took voluntary redundancy from British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL) at Sellafield, near Whitehaven, West Cumbria, UK in November 1999 and moved to Orgiva of the Las Alpujarras, Sierra Nevada, Andalucia Spain, where we renovated the farmhouse. We have took a pride in the renovation, which we have attempted to do tastefully with the comfort of residents in mind.

David Isaacs purchased this cottage in 1999

Why David Isaacs chose Sierra Nevada Area

Orgiva, our town of the Las Alpujarras, Sierra Nevada, Andalucia Spain, was obvious to us a unique location, in that it is convenient for vastly varying locations, for example only 20km from the beach, Salobreña, only 20 minutes from the spectacular mountain villages such as Capileira, Bubion, Pampineira and Trevelez etc, 50 minutes from the historical city of Granada with the Alhambra Palace and Cathedral etc and 75 minutes from the Sierra Nevada Ski resort. Also Orgiva (just 200 metres from the cortijo) itself is an unspoilt typically Spanish town with an array of interesting bars, cafes, restaurants, shops, weekly market, children's play area, cinema etc and all facilities, banks, IT cafe etc.

What makes this cottage unique

"El Olivo" is quite unique in that it is situated in a tranquil location with a large garden and swimming pool, on the edge of Orgiva town, but is convenient for all amenities (shops, bars, restaurants, banks etc), the best of both worlds, ie peace and tranquility and access to all facilities. The cortijo has been renovated with the comfort of residents in mind, for example a special insulated roof was installed, which means it is 5 to 6 C cooler in the hot summer months, than a house with a traditional roof, the swimming pool is mosaic tiled with a state of the art water treatment system, there is a 2 acre garden with olive and fruit trees where you can loose yourself and seek solitude if you wish.

A beautiful place and excellent host

  • 5 of 5

My wife Carol and I have stayed at this location on several occassions. We have loved it every time, and will still be going there again. It is comfortable and clean, and David is a really good host. We enjoy the area as it is mountains and valleys with a river bed next to the cortijo which has many walk ways which we enjoy. Each year we sojourne a bit further into the wilderness. Certainly worth a visit.

Brilliant stay

  • 5 of 5

We've been here many times now, always a pleasure. David is a great host, as is Paco the resident cat. Lovely secluded property within easy walking distance of the town centre. Booked twice for 2016 which speaks for itself.

Brilliantly rustic piece of real Spain.

  • 4 of 5

Charming feel of real Spanish country living. Warm and welcoming with the log fire at night when there was a chill in the air. Brilliant bars and restaurants within walking distance and the best tapa with every drink. We had a great time.

Summer Cycling in Orgiva

  • 5 of 5

I've been to this accommodation several times, keep coming back because:

1) I like rural Spain, this cotijo is in a quiet area but there are a number of bars and cafes in the local village.

2) The owners is friendly and you can always have a banter with him.

3) Property is enclosed so it's safe for the kids.

4) Lots of quiet roads in the national park area around here so good for getting out on the road/mountain bike.

5) It's good value for money.
