About the Owner

We are a family of five, my wife, my three daughters and I. I live on a big farm and I work as a farmer raising hazelnuts, besides the tourism business.

I have been working with the holiday cottage for 12 years already. We started with only one apartment and after some years we decided to increase it because we thought it could be worth it, and we saw that working on this business has brought us into contact with such a great families from around the world. My family and I host the customers, and we all want the people to feel as home and as comfortable as possible.

I like to talk with the guests and enlighten them about the country and the region. I also like to show them the house, the fields and the surroundings of the house because it is an old farm house with a long history.

Superb holiday accommodation

  • 5 of 5

Laia, Joseps daughter, showed us everything and explained clearly all we needed to know. Our apartment was immaculate. If you look at the picture of the property taken from the far end of the pool, the tiny window at the top right is the en suite for the master bedroom, so this apartment has good access for the pool area. Car park is behind the big hedge. Outside area is amazing, & very well equipped, with fridge, double built in BBQ, dishes, cutlery, sink &l tables, which we made good use of. There's a small area to hang up washing & a loo and shower too. Beds are very comfortable, aircon is good. The master has ensuite with shower, with tonnes of towels. Other room has sturdy bunk beds with a pull out bed underneath. Opposite is the main bathroom with shower over bath, bidet, loo, & washer and dryer. We used the washing machine a couple of times - door on it is really hard to open! No detergent provided though, so do take some. There was lots of loo roll though, plenty tea towels, wash up liquid & cleaning items, though no tea /coffee/ sugar, but there was some condiments, kitchen roll, cling film etc. The kitchen/living area was nice, spacious, with large fridge, decent sized freezer compartment. Small issue with some ants was dealt with promptly and Josep and Laia provided us with loads of info on places whilst there. Josep also kindly agreed to print out our return boarding passes for us. The feeding of the pig was a daily joy, and we also gathered grass for the goats and chickens. Suma shop down the road is recommended and we did the rest of our shopping at the Esclat at 08186 Lliçà d'Amunt. Days out: St Miquel de fai, open Sundays only, our best day out. Wear decent footwear if you want to do the caves! Tarragona was good for roman stuff and beach. Montserrat was interesting too, but expensive. Lovely holiday - thankyou

For days out, we wo

Great family memories

  • 5 of 5

We stayed with our 3 children (17,15&11) over the Easter holidays and have banked some wonderful family memories from our time on this charming nut farm.

Josep the owner was the most generous and attentive host you could ask for. The outdoor facilities are great and the pool area a particular feature with the heated pool and a super outside dining area. We made the most of this, cooking over a wood BBQ most evenings. A Spanish family staying in a neighbouring apartment even showed us how to cook 'calcuts' on the BBQ.

The accommodation itself is clean but simple and being a period building the windows are small which makes for a cooler but darker interior. If you were staying indoors this might be a bigger consideration but given the outdoor space and generally good weather this is a minor consideration.

The kids loved the animals and we half suspected one them might try and smuggle the pig back in hand luggage. (He wasn't big despite their best efforts to fatten him up over the week)

The farm is in the centre of a small urban community with a through road but you are not conscious of this when you are there as it is an oasis of calm. The central position means there are shops and a simple selection of eateries within a few minutes walk and a community building where my son and I watched Barcelona narrowly lose 2:1 to Real Madrid surrounded by a couple of hundred very friendly Catalonians. (Even if like us rather miffed by the scoreline).

The farm lies within 35 minutes drive of the city but a few days we got caught in rush hour traffic which made the journey much longer including an agonising and nail biting journey back to the airport. To anyone living near a major city this is standard fair and in reality Barcelona is an easy city to visit by car with numerous and relatively inexpensive underground car parks. We visited several of the best known sites but the favourite was the lesser known St Pau hospital which we thought was great value and probably under visited given the breathtaking art nouveau architecture.

As I said in the header all in all some wonderful family memories. Thank you Josep for your kindness and generosity, we will be back.

A 'retreat'

  • 5 of 5

This property is just wonderful! It is a huge farmhouse carefully split into the main house and apartments. It dates back to 1300 and is oozing charm and heritage. Beautifully decorated in a traditional style it is comfortable, peaceful and charming. Our apartment had every amenity; microwave, dishwasher, to, good wifi, hairdryer and loads of towels! The location offers great views of the countyside with shops on the doorstep for everyday essentials. The bus to Barcelona leaves from the Main Street (about 5 min walk) and takes you straight to the metro (the express bus is best takes around 35 mins). We travelled with our 3 children who loved the pool (it was warm!) the swings, bikes, trampoline, table tennis and pool table! There is plenty to do if you just want to relax at home or experience the excitement of the city. I couldn't recommend highly enough.

A great place for a holiday for all ages.

  • 5 of 5

We chose this location as a base for our first stay in Catalonia. The accommodation is tidy comfortable well equipped with all the utilities we needed for our stay. Our hosts were friendly and helpful with there knowledge of local transport facilities and the plentiful evening entertainment options available in the nearby town (less than 5 minutes walk away). Most of this information was helpfully referenced in a visitors folder within the accommodation.

The property has a long history the hosts can trace the family as far back as the early 14th century and there are many interesting items from by-gone eras placed around the property. The recreational facilities are excellent and we made use of the heated swimming pool which we both agreed was the first pool we have encountered that warranted the title of Heated. We were very impressed by the range of recreational facilities for all ages.

We used the accommodation as a base for our time limited exploration of the North West and South of the region and this was the ideal property for us. We were close to motorway systems as and when we needed them. We were both relieved to return to the relative tranquillity of the property after our visits to some of the larger cities.

We Thank Josep and family for a lovely relaxing visit. We have no hesitation in recommending this holiday destination to our family and friends and all the readers of this review.

Peaceful rural location

  • 5 of 5

We had a very relaxing week with our three boys aged 8, 12 and 14. The pool, bikes, table tennis and sauna kept them entertained whilst we soaked up the sun.

The facilities were fantastic and well equipped. We especially liked the alfresco dining area with barbecue.

The apartment had lots of farmhouse character and the owners could not have been more accommodating.

Within easy reach of Barcelona just 35 minutes by bus and plenty of local cafe bars, supermarkets, pattiseries and delicatessens in the high street just 5 mins walk away.

Very Spanish and off the tourist beaten track.

From the Owner

Why this location? Can Burgues dating back to the 13th century, to this day has always been handed-down from father to son remaining in the family. Today it still retains its original structure and rustic style and has become a point of important historical reference within the village. Can Burguès is near all main routes of all points in the country and very close to the main cities, but it is situated in a quiet and rural area, therefore is the best place to enjoy a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere in a pleasant green country-side where you may appreciate interesting nature-walks and spend your free time in an enjoyable and interesting way.
