Pretty cottage-style villa and garden apartment : botanical gardens, pool + wifi - CASA PEQUEÑA (sleeps 1-3), Two private terraces

Overview

Property

Updated: 28-Aug-2016
Charming Villa and Apartment near Puntalón village, Motril (Costa Tropical) - South from Granada - Tranquil country location, just 2kms from the beach & 3kms busy Motril, tapas bars, shops & boutiques

A hidden or secret location, situated just outside the small village of Puntalón, 3km east from Motril on the Costa Tropical de Granada. This area around Motril has probably the best climate in mainland Europe, protected from the harsh Northern Winters by the mighty Sierra Nevadas behind. Close to the Mediterranean coast and many traditional seaside resorts down at sea level. The surrounding agricultural land is filled with 'Invernaderos' containing; cherry tomatoes, green beans and cucumbers. Hillsides and valleys covered with fruit trees, many sub-tropical.

Cortijo Nuevo this traditional country house set in lush sub-tropical gardens; was lovingly converted into three private homes many years ago and has been successfully rented for short-term holiday lets since 1990.

The original Cortijo used by the resident British owner (Patrick), CASA PEQUEÑA, a charming, traditional 1 bedroom cottage and EL APARTAMENTO, the more modern, light and airy home. The latter two are both available for short term self-catering holidays, (3-99 days). Many guests return time and again from all over the World, finding the accommodation different from many soul-less holiday apartments: The small botanical gardens make it stand apart from nearby holiday homes, being wonderfully relaxing and private. Just half an acre, but with interesting design and lush planting, it appears larger with many different themes, areas and patios - easy to find a private corner to read and relax in sun or shade. Lovely Mediterranean, garden and mountain views.

An ideal holiday touring base. Country location, yet not isolated. Many travellers have stayed here on bargain property searches - good access for Southern Andalucia and Las Alpujarras, Lecrin Valley and Granada City. Perhaps visit Gibraltar, Málaga, Almeria or spend a few days in North Africa; regular ferries depart from nearby Motril port to Morocco and Melilla - watch their movements from your private roof terraces! About the Owner

My name is Patrick, a British passport holder now full-time resident on the Costa Tropical (Spain) since 2001.

UK past, lawyer & businessman, now semi-retired and days spent relaxing in the sun exploring this wonderful area, pottering in the lush gardens and maintaining the rental homes for guests.

Live alone quietly, my three rescue dogs (Hector, Boris & Dino) are great companions, you can spend as much or as little time with them as you like. We all respect guests privacy, the gardens are well designed with space and privacy for all.

Looking foward to welcoming you later in the year - any questions or price quote, please do not hesitate to ask.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at Casa Pequeña, Motril. Our host Patrick was charming and helpful, nothing was too much trouble and his 3 dogs, Boris, Dino and Hector an absolute joy. What a wonderful oasis he has created, its private away from the noise of everday life and the gardens incredible. Great place to chill out around the pool and enjoy BBQ in the evening. Our stay there wasn't long enough we shall definitely return.

Amazing place

  • 5 of 5

We are an Australian retired couple and stayed here for 5 nights. This place is an oasis, the gardens are just lovely. Lush, cool and shady with so many places to sit and relax. Lovely pool to cool off in. Bar fridge also at the pool, for your use. We stayed in the Appartment, clean, roomy with everything you could need. Wifi, TV, DVD's, books, it lacks nothing. Comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, clean modern bathroom. There are two roof terraces, which fantastic for sitting and relaxing. Patrick is a very relaxed friendly guy, who is always happy to help. His three dogs are completely harmless and fun to have around. There is off street parking. It is not your normal common garden variety accomodation, this really is something different and very special, really worth a visit. We would love to return. Thanks, Patrick.

Owner's Response: Many thanks for your 5 star review for El Apartamento, very generous praise indeed. Always delighted when travellers enjoy their time on the Costa Tropical, appreciating my unusual location and gardens. Of course welcome back anytime (many do return), but perhaps too far from Australia...also, well done for braving the swimming pool during mid November!

September in Casa Paquena

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely time at Case Paquena, the apartment was well equiped and it was great to receive a welcome pack on arrival. Patrick was both friendly and really helpful, he was full of local knowledge about where to go and what to see. We went on a day trip to Granada which is only an hour away and would highly recommend. The best part of the stay was the beautiful tropical gardens and swimming pool which really do feel like an oasis of calm after a busy day sightseeing. Thanks very much Patrick for a wonderful stay.

Owner's Response: Pleased that you both enjoyed your short break here at Casa Pequeña. Concerned when you arrived without a hire car, but you seemed to manage using the local bus service, walking and taxis. Sometimes guests never want to explore, simply relaxing in the tranquil gardens...hope to welcome you back in the future

A weekend stay

  • 5 of 5

My husband and myself stayed at Casa Pequena for 3 days and it is the most amazing place to stay, if you like a tranquil atmosphere with just the sound of the wildlife in the beautiful gardens, where you can relax and listen to the sounds of nature, then when it gets too hot you can always have a dip in the pool which also has a poolside bbq and fridge (to keep your wine or beer chilled)oh you must also love dogs as Patrick (the owner) has 3 beautiful friendly dogs, the rooms are clean and well maintained with a lovely welcome pack waiting on your arrival .

Authentic Spanish Garden Retreat

  • 5 of 5

Casa Pequena is hidden amongst the agriculture of the Costa del Tropical and offers a secluded getaway destination perfect for couples.

The villa is surrounded by a wonderful array of tropical plants - clearly a dedication and love of Patricks. The villa itself isn't overly lavish but offers good basic facilities in order to relax and enjoy the gardens, the area and the time away from normal every day life.

The kitchen is equipped well for self catering and Patrick offers a small selection of groceries which are offered on an honesty basis (please replace before you depart), the sitting room is linked upstairs from the kitchen and provides a wonder view in to the garden and outward to the mountains beyond the property boundaries.

Further up still is the terrace on top of the villa, this welcomes you to a private area perfect for lounging, a quiet drink or sunbathing.

The bedroom is well appointed with traditional Spanish furniture (you may find the bed on the small side - remember this isn't the UK, this is traditional, genuine, Spain) however, beds are for curling up in - so relax and enjoy your time.

Patrick is an extremely pleasant and welcoming host, along with Dino, Hector and Boris, his dogs - it was an absolute pleasure to be in your company - although it must be said, discreet and available just when needed - we really did feel left to our own devices.

We wouldn't hesitate in recommending either villa based on location and would say choose based on requirements and information provided by Patrick. The local area is wonderful and it was nice to feel like we were in Spain and not in an English resort with warmer weather!

Thank you Patrick!

Unique cottage

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage with everything you need for your stay. The gardens are just beautiful, lovely flowers and lots of corners to explore and sit in the shade. Swimming pool is such a bonus, great area to sit in the sun, then cool off in the pool. Private roof terrace is certainly a sun trap during the day, and the views are fantastic.

Owner's Response: Thank you Caroline for your excellent review! So pleased that you enjoyed your two weeks in the sun, making full use of the sub-tropical gardens, terraces and swimming pool. They really are a haven away from the nearby coastal resorts and very tranquil. Hope to welcome you both back in the future.

Location

From the Owner

Fell in love with this area of Andalucía many years ago, it still remains Spanish and unspoilt by the mass tourism found on many of Spain's other costas. The Cortijo is hidden away in a tranquil agricultural area, set in lush green gardens and close to many quiet beaches. A very tranquil oasis, yet just a 5 minute drive from the bustling market town of Motril with all it's tapas bars, restuarants, supermarkets and boutiques. Just a few kms inland, discover the white villages of Las Alpujarras /ideal walking territory) and the mighty Sierra Nevadas, excellent skiing from December to April. The area has it all and the best Winter climate in mainland Europe - snow and frosts never experienced down on the coast - possible to lunch in the gardens on Christmas Day!
