Very large modern 3 bed flat in heart of Nice, children welcome

Ideal for Carnival, the Jazz Festival, Xmas, summer and exploring coast

Just off great shopping on Avenue Jean Medecin, with the train station five minutes walk away and the beach ten minutes, my large flat is a great base for exploration. The huge open plan lounge combines sitting and dining area with French windows opening onto a small balcony. A new galley kitchen offers modern cooker, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. Two spacious double bedrooms (one with en-suite shower and toilet) lead off on either side of the central hallway. One twin bedroom overlooks the inner courtyard and there is space for extra guests using the double sofa bed in the lounge, so that it comfortably accommodates 6-8 people. There is a second shower/bathroom at the end of the hallway. The flat runs east to west and is on the fourth floor of a 'bourgeois' building, overlooking Rue Miron. The feel is light and airy with air conditioning in the lounge, and fans in all other rooms.

Previous guests have spent a winter week skiing and then come down to Nice for Christmas or New Year, which makes for a lovely combination.

Elton John's favourite restaurant, 'La Petite Maison' in Vieux Nice opposite the Opera House, is worth trying if you are prepared to blow your budget, but there are also a host of non-touristy restaurants for the locals all over Nice.

I supply further details of all local attractions and also full instructions for the flat when I send out the keys.

There is no concierge in the block, which is inhabited by local people, in other words it isn't a building full of tourists.

Excellent apartment

The apartment was exactly as described. The location was excellent for Nice and the train station. We were a party of 7 and there was ample room. The owner was very helpful before and after booking with plenty of help and advice for the area. Would not hesitate to stay again or recommend to others.

A brilliant property in good central position.

This apartment in Nice was ideal for our small walking group. It was spacious, clean and had everything that we needed. The owner had given us useful information prior to our arrival but there were also loads of helpful books and leaflets in the apartment as well. The central location meant we were within walking distance of the train station, buses, markets, the boulevard and many of Nice's main attractions. One lesser known location we would recommend a visit to was Phoenix Park, lovely gardens and animal park situated near the airport, costing only three euros and free for children. We loved Nice and had an absolutely brilliant holiday.

Great Stay, Great Conditions

It was the four of us who traveled to Nice to conclude our trip in the South of Franch. We spent the remainder of the trip in Nice and it was amazing. Of course, being comfortable and staying well rested is important while traveling and this apartment has definitely met all the requirements you're looking for when staying in a great city like Nice. The owner was amazing because she has provided all the detailed information needed, suggested place to go and things to do. Great impression of the apartment owners because the place was clean, very spacious, and it was a great place to stay in as a family. So happy and grateful we stayed here!

Great Location

The apartment is very spacious and the beds comfortable with adequate linen. It was well maintained and easy to keep clean. We really enjoyed our stay, as the apartment easy walking distance from the train station, the shops and the beach. With the windows open, there was significant traffic noise, but that is to be expected in the city centre. The kitchen area was small but adequate for the catering we did over our week's stay. There is a good sized fridge and freezer and all the basic equipment. The lounge/diner area was a lovely room in which to relax and socialise. I would recommend this apartment especially as the owner was very good with communications before and after our stay.

Clean and bright apartment in a very nice place

We were staying this flat one week in july. There was 7 of us and we all just loved the place. The location was great, near of everything. Flat was big and clean. Very bright and nice.

Very big, fine and classic apartment.

Very well placed in central Nice. Good style and easy to use.

If the kitchen were better equiped it would get an extra star. We missed a expresso coffe maker, cheap model would have been accepted. We are in France.

Owner's Response: What a good idea! Thank you for the suggestion. No-one has mentioned it before , presumably as they are happy with the large cafetiere in the kitchen but I am happy to add an espresso machine if people want it.

Location

From the Owner

I chose this property because it is both very central, in the heart of the nineteenth century town that surrounds Avenue Jean Medecin and which developed during Victorian times when the Belle Epoque period and architecture became fashionable among the Brits who flocked to the Cote d'Azur in the winter. I can walk from the flat to the Opera House in Vieux Nice in about 15 minutes (or go by tram) and in general I have excellent access to everything central.

Right in the centre of Nice, this flat offers guests the chance to explore the Riviera from a spacious, luxurious and well situated base with high quality furnishings. You can easily get to Monaco, Menton and the Italian Riviera within an hour from the train station which is 5 minutes walk away. Equally close is the sea and all the cultural attractions of Nice itself: the Musee Matisse, Musee Chagall and the Opera are all 10 minutes walk away.

I love to get the bus to Beaulieu for the fabulous Ephrussi Rothschild house and garden on St Jean-Cap Ferrat and also the amazing Greek villa Kerylos at Beaulieu.

Cannes is a half hour in the other direction by train. St Paul de Vence has a fabulous art museum and Eze just outside Nice is a wonderful hilltop village with knockout views of the coast - you can get there on the local coach from the Gare routiere. And of course St Tropez is fun.

Why not travel on the Chemin de Fer de Provence inland on the narrow gauge railway up into the Alps? Entrevaux has a medieval fortress approached by a drawbridge and you can ski in the Val D'Allos for the day if you stop at Thoraume -Haute for a coach transfer.

Other Activities: museums, theatre, opera, concerts.

Ski: Skiing is available at four resorts about an hour's drive out of Nice or you can access the resorts by train. The resort are very modern. Previous guests spent a week skiing then came to my flat for New Year, booking at La Petite Maison for New Year's Eve

The flat is high up (on the fourth floor) so very light, airy and spacious and also properly modernised, unlike many places in France and many others that I saw in Nice!

  • The two bathrooms are modern and newly fitted with mosaic tiles from floor to ceiling. There is storage space in the sanitary units under the basins and a large mirror. Both showers are powerful and served by the boiler in the central bathroom at the end of the hall. There is a hair-dryer in the back bathroom, and a clothes rack for drying in the central bathroom.

  • By English standards, the bedrooms are extremely large and comfortable, though the beds themselves are regular size, not large. The largest double bedroom overlooks Rue Miron, has a marble fireplace and a large fitted cupboard with half glass sliding door. The back double bedroom overlooks the inner courtyard, has en-suite shower room and toilet and a mirrored cupboard with hanging space and drawers. The third bedroom also overlooks the inner courtyard, has two single beds and a small standing cupboard with canvas frontage. The fourth sleeping space is not another bedroom but the open plan lounge which has a sofa-bed with linen and duvet stored inside. All rooms have bedside tables, side lamps and wicker chairs, and fans and rugs. There is parquet flooring throughout. Back bedrooms are quieter. To keep the light spacious feel of the property I have not put in curtains - you use the shutters as curtains!

  • The whole flat, while in a nineteenth century 'bourgeois' building, has been completely gutted and remodelled with modern furniture mostly from Habitat. Overhead lighting is concealed halogen bulbs in hallway, kitchen and bathrooms. Non smokers only please!
