Quiet retreat on the Dingle Peninsula

  • 5 of 5

Such a nice place with everything we needed. Close to the beach, Dingle town and the bakery. We stayed here for 4 nights during our 2 week visit to Ireland. I was a great home base to explore west Kerry and Dingle.

Serene and happy stay!

We were greeted with fresh farm eggs and Irish soda bread. The home was as described and very charming. We fell in love with the Dingle Peninsula and the people. We would come back if time and money allowed!

Owner's Response: Delighted you enjoyed your stay in Direen Cottage and found it cosy and comfortable in mid winter. Cooking and catering can be an important part of many people's holiday and they have chosen self catering for this reason so we are glad you appreciated the well equipped kitchen. We look forward to welcoming you back to Direen again some day soon.

had a wonderful time

  • 5 of 5

I really enjoyed my stay at Direen Cottage. The cottage was clean and spacious. I loved curling up and getting cozy with a book in the master bedroom. There's a window seat that overlooks a pretty hedge and you can hear the creek near the house (I slept with the windows open and fell asleep to the sounds of the creek). I think that was probably my favorite spot in the cottage. I spent a lot of evenings there.

The cottage is situated conveniently with quick and easy access to Cloghane, Brandon, and Castlegregory. This made it easy to explore the area and easy to swing by between adventures for a quick lunch. I told a friend that one evening my face hurt and I realized it was because I'd been smiling so much.

The Murphys were great. When I had an unexpected travel issue that resulted in my arriving a day late, they arranged their schedules to meet me when I got there. They let me know about an annual local event that I would never have known of otherwise; it was very cool to attend and learn about. They also provided me with free eggs from their free range chickens and homemade strawberry jam (which in my world = several super awesome breakfasts). They were just awesome hosts.

I would definitely recommend staying at Direen.

Peacefulness and tranquility

  • 5 of 5

A warm welcome awaited us at this beautiful cottage. Janet gave us great advice on where to go and what to see. It was a home away from home, so peaceful and relaxing. Our boys loved it from start to finish - whether it was climbing Mount Brandon, swimming at Fermoyle Beach or playing on the buoy swing in the garden. This is an excellent location to use as a base to explore Kerry. It was so wonderful to play board games at night in the light of the roaring peat fire. It was lovely to hear the history of the cottage. The scenery is truly breathtaking and we were sorry to go home. The local bakery is a must as is O'Conor,s pub in Cloghane! Thank you Janet.

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had such a great week in Direen Cottage. We aim to make the cottage homely so that guests can relax and enjoy peaceful living. The buoy swings are a great joy to many children who visit and they spend hours amusing themselves in the safe garden. The area is surrounded with walks and guests can enjoy the difficult Mount Brandon climb or easier hill walks as well as miles of beach at Fermoyle Strand. Also glad you took full advantage of the excellent Bacus bakery and O'Connor's Pub both situated in the village of Cloghane. I hope we meet again some day. Best wishes Janet and Eamonn

Good choice.

  • 4 of 5

Nice, very warm cottage and plenty of warm water, love it. It is a great place, in the middle of all beautiful places with the easy access to everything. Brandon Bay is fantastic! Nice hospitality and lovely breads in the little shop. If you like a bit of Irish taste this cottage will be a good choice. Thanks a lot.
