Great cottage in location convenient to Dingle. Very quiet and beautiful and welcoming. A+ stay!

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was well maintained and clean and we were made to feel very welcomed by our hosts. The location was perfect with Dingle only 30 minutes away by car. Great base location to explore the peninsula and just unwind and relax! We would definitely go back (family of four with twin 12 year old boys) in a heartbeat (even the boys loved it). The peat fires in the tv and living rooms were also much appreciated and used. The beds were also comfortable. I really can’t say enough good things about Direen cottage, but it is definitely a wonderful VRBO that me and my family highly recommend. A+ accommodation for our needs.

We didn't want to leave

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at Direen Cottage. A favorite photo from our trip is my husband standing in front of the drive saying he doesn't want to leave.

We arrived on a dark and raining night. Fortunately Eamon was in Tralee and we were able to follow him to the cottage or else I don't know if we would have found it! We were a little unsure of the location when we first arrived, feeling like we were far from anything. Because it was off season, the pub in Cloghane was not open and a lot of local pubs in the area were not open. But, the store in Cloghane was open and they had all the necessities if we missed anything. And, once we explored and realized it's just a 20 minute drive to Dingle over the Connor Pass (a little nerve-wracking for American drivers, but we've done worse in the mountains of Colorado or New Mexico!) and 5 minute drive to Fermoyle Beach (you must go see it) , we were happy to that we were in the location because we probably wouldn't have explored the north part of the peninsula had we stayed in Dingle. We hiked one of the local trails to Loch a Duin(?) and still cannot describe the breathtaking views. You need a car for this location.

The cottage was a perfect size for our family of four with room for more if needed. Our sons enjoyed playing on the swing and our 12 year old said, this place is perfect. :) We loved the evenings by the peat fires. The cottage was warm and cozy after we had days of sun-rain-hail. Wifi worked great.

My tiniest complaints... the bath towels could be replaced and the tea kettle and coffee pot needed cleaning out before we could use them. Not a huge issue for us. We'd return in a heartbeat!

Very nice

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful cottage and Janet was very nice. Nice welcome loaf of bread! We were sorry that one of the pubs in Cloghane was closed. The best food we found was in Stradbally at Tomlisons. Fun drive to Dingle and the wonderful drive around the peninsula.

Owner's Response: So glad you enjoyed your stay. The sound of the stream outside the bedroom window is peaceful, calming and so relaxing! The extensive garden is a great amenity especially for children and all sorts of wildlife can be spotted there.

We loved the property and grounds, and the close proximity of Fermoy Beach

  • 3 of 5

Our first impression of the cottage was it's charm and Janet's welcome. She left us homemade jam and cakes and peat for the open fires. The beds and bedding were clean and the rooms were cosy. However after 7 nights my daughter complained of backache as one of the beds in the twin room was very uncomfortable. Having a washing machine and dishwasher was great and the stove was in good working order. The one unanimous complaint that spoiled the cottage was that the showers were awful. The one upstairs was very noisy and for the men there was barely enough room to move, and although the wet room shower downstairs had lots of room the actual shower was barely a dribble and so was not used at all, leaving 6 people to use the small upstairs bathroom. We didn't get to use the tv because it didn't work, it was old and none of us wanted to make a fuss about it. But we had bad weather a couple of days and it would have been great to watch something as we couldn't go outside. The question is would we return? Yes, absolutely, if those things were rectified! We loved the area, the scenery and most of all the people!

Owner's Response: We are glad you enjoyed your stay but are both sorry and very disappointed that you had issues with the cottage. We try to meet guests on arrival whenever possible and always insist that if there are any problems to contact us without delay as we live close by and almost everything can be attended to immediately. The upstairs shower is over the bath so not suitable for all guests but there is a large wheelchair accessible wet room downstairs as an alternative. I noticed after your departure that the shower head needed replacing but this was a simple 5 minute job if I had been contacted. Many guests comment on the comfortable beds and we had never heard otherwise. The TV, although not a flat screen, is in perfect working order we subscribe to Sky Satellite to give guests a varied choice of viewing- a phone call or text would have solved any problems you may have had with the remote control. We would welcome you back to Direen at any time and continue to insist that if guests have any problems to notify us immediately so they can enjoy a troublefree and comfortable holiday.
