Centrally located charming house close to fabulous beaches and amenities

This charming house in the city center is very spacious, light, and airy. The historic tower 'Porcheron' belongs to the house and offers an impressive bathroom, reminding the history of the town. On the ground floor you will find a fully equipped kitchen and a dining area, which allow for fun cooking and dining-in. The second floor features two bedrooms and one large brick-wall bathroom, with a tub. The third floor also has two bedrooms and one bathroom. Enjoy your breakfast on the lovely rooftop terrace with a 360° view of the city. Relax and read a summer book in the loungers on the terrace or unwind with a glass of wine from one of the local wineries. Grill your fish fresh off the boat on the built-in stone BBQ and enjoy life - the French way.

Beside the roof terrace you will find a Summer kitchen, equipped with fridge, kettle, toaster, 2 ring electric hob and a table top electric oven. Feel comfortable on the roof terrace and use the available sun loungers, the table & 8 chairs and the large sun umbrellas.

Situated in the heart of this fashionable fishing town, all local amenities are within walking distance, including over 15 restaurants and the quaint fishing port and shops. One of the most renewed Mediterranean beaches is within a few minutes drive.

There is also free parking allocated outside.

The Town: Marseillan, situated on the Etang du Thau (famous for its Mussels and Oysters), is where the Canal du Midi joins the Mediterranean Sea. Its vibrant port area, with its stylish bars and restaurants is an excellent place to sit in the sunshine and watch the world go by.

The Beach: Marseillan beach is about three miles from Marseillan town, with a beach that stretches from Cap d'Adge in one direction to Sete in the other, a distance of some sixteen kilometers. This is a hazard free beach with fine golden sands, shallow warm waters where children can play and swim in complete safety. The beach is for sun lovers and those who enjoy the natural environment. It is reputed to be the cleanest French beach on the Mediterranean.

Great holiday in Marseillan

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time in Marseillan. The townhouse was fab, just as described, very clean and well equipped and everything worked! The roof terrace in particular was a real bonus. The layout is perfect for two couples or two families, with a double and twin bedroom plus a bathroom on each of the first and second floors. James was very helpful and prompt at responding to any queries. Angie, the local rep, was fantastic and even arranged for a car to take us to the station on our last day.

Marseillan is a lovely small town with everything you need within walking distance of the house. There are plenty of restaurants and food shops and a great little traiteur that produces excellent fresh dishes daily for you to eat at home. There are plenty of bars around the port area which are great for whiling away a few hours. Also in the port is the local wine co-operative. Take your own plastic bottles and fill up on the very drinkable local plonk for 1 euro a litre.

Although you don't need a car when staying in Marseillan, the public transport isn't great and you may want to consider hiring a car if you want to explore the area.

All in all a great holiday and we wouldn't hesitate to return.

An excelent stay!

  • 5 of 5

A total of four adults and two kids stayed in the apartment for 10 days. Everything regarding the booking and “check-in” went very smooth.

We especially appreciated the location close to everything in Marseillan, the terrace on the roof and the fact that everything was well maintained. The apartment also gave each family the privacy needed for a 10 days stay together.

Our stay was during the “Lucifer” heat wave resulting in a wish for air-condition. I do however not think that this would be a problem during normal summer conditions.

We would highly recommend the apartment!

Centrally located, but in need of refurbishment

  • 3 of 5

We visited Marseillan in July 2016 and were very taken with its quiet charm; narrow winding streets, pretty squares and a wide variety of independent shops. It was a spot to get away from all the hustle and bustle of a touristy seaside town, but still be beside the sea and very different from its sister, Marseillan-Plage just down the road.

There was, however, plenty going on and we watched a firework display on Bastille Day, a fabulous outdoor concert by an incredibly talented international band and a competition which involved trying to be the furthest to walk up a very long and slippery barge pole!

There are plenty of places to eat and drink and, although there is a Carrefour, most of your provisions can be bought in the lovely bakeries and greengrocers in town which sell fresh produce.

This property was very handy in particular for these shops and for the town centre in general as it is very centrally located. The house was also very well-equipped with all mod cons, plenty of crockery and cutlery and even a variety of beach equipment and it was tastefully furnished and decorated in a traditional style.

It is very warm in July, however, and it was well into the thirties when we visited so it was difficult to be comfortable with no air-conditioning and a selection of fans that had seen better days and were noisy and no longer efficient. The roof terrace is lovely, but up four flights of stairs and although we enjoyed a few al fresco meals, it was inconvenient hauling everything up there and often it was windy and, despite the parasols, sometimes just too hot.

The TV did not work either and although Hans tried hard to have it fixed for us, it was lacking some component or another so we never got any reception. Ordinarily we wouldn't really mind, but we were anxious to watch Wimbledon plus it's a great way to improve my French, one of the reasons we holiday in France.

In summary, Marseillan is a lovely town and we would definitely visit again and the property is very handy for the town centre, but it needs some refurbishment and would definitely benefit from installing an air-conditioning system.

Owner's Response: We bought the house in late 2015 and since then made a lot of refurbishment to feel the guests well and convenient during their vacation. TV meanwhile has been successfully installed and no one may miss the sport events in future. Under the roof a litte summer kitchen has been installed, incl. a refrigerator, to leave food and drinks there, close to the roof terrace. We are thankful for all feed-back and suggestions to improve our hospitality.

Great house, great location!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous week in this house in Marseillan. Beautifully refurbished, authentic French townhouse with everything you need for modern living. The fantastic roof terrace is perfect for breakfast in the sun, evening sundowners as the sun sinks over the rooftops and later relaxing dinners with the beautiful clock tower lit up in the town square. The location is brilliant. Only a 10 second walk from delicious croissants, pain au chocolats and baguettes from La Manne Doree in the square. A few steps on takes you to the Delicatessen, which in our opinion is the best restaurant in Marseillan for food, ambience and service. Round the corner from the house is Bella Pizza (takeaway) and their pizzas are delicious and the people who run it are very friendly and welcoming. Parking your car is easy in the town and wherever you choose you're only a short walk from the house. We would highly recommend this house and we look forward to returning to it ourselves.

Great house, fabulous location

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week staying in this house in Marseillan. The house is just lovely, lots of space, beautifully refurbished, authentic French townhouse and with everything you need for modern living. The roof terrace is amazing, a real sun trap for breakfast, beautiful for sundowners in the early evening and then lovely relaxed dinners later whilst you admire the clock tower lit up just over the rooftops .....couldn't beat it!!! Location wise the house is fabulous. Literally a ten second walk to the lovely La Manne Doree for delicious croissants, pain au chocolats and baguettes (often still hot from the oven). A couple of steps further and you're at the amazing Delicatessen restaurant which is in our opinion the best in Marseillan for food, ambience and great service. Round the corner from the house is the lovely Bella Pizza, again great food & friendly people running it. We certainly hope to return to this house again and we would nightly recommend it to anyone looking for a great holiday in Marseillan.

It is not for nothing that the Guardian titled "Marseillan the St. Tropez before Bardot". With its historic charme, the old fishing village has attracted artists and writers since the 1950s. Today Marseillan is an international town with great azzure blue water views, charming rooftops, and dazzling beaches. Marseillan is stylish and laid-back, it is international and local, it is fun and hipp and a place to unwind. Foodies will find the thriving food and restaurant scene irresistable.
