Overview

Description

Le Fleuve

Le Fleuve is the largest of our cottages, a two storey cottage set in its own romantic gardens beside next to our swimming pool. On the ground floor there is an entrance hall, kitchen with woodburning stove and a Japanese tub/shower room. Leading off this is a large living/dining room with another wood burning stove. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, one having an en suite toilet room with basin, but we do advise visitors that due to the design one bedroom is open plan to the stairs but private to the main bedroom.

Outside Le Fleuve has its own private garden, a undercover dinning area and a patio set next to our well, idea for early morning sunshine and breakfast.

About the property

Les Frippieres Loire Valley

With over 100 5 * reviews Ken and Liz Mason are the resident owners of three 350 year old self catering romantic stone cottages with beamed ceilings and Terracotta floors, set in an acre of award winning gardens with its own private swimming pool nestling on the edge of a lovely French hamlet surrounded by open fields in the heart of the Loire Valley. To maintain the tranquillity of the setting and to ensure total relaxation during your holiday with us we only accept adults.

Each cottage has its own private area of garden, we have tried to broaden the range of plants in the garden so that no matter what time of the year you chose to visit there will be plenty to look at.

Look at our own web site: www.frenchdreamcottages.com

There are too many flowers and shrubs to mention but we do have many types of clematis, honeysuckle, rose, grape vines, jasmine, sweet pea, laveteria and lavender. If you enjoy home cooking, our herb garden provides you with a multitude of herbs.

For those that are interested in food we have numerous Restaurants in the area ranging from those were a good 3 course lunch with wine can be had for about €13 to Michelin Starred Restaurants which are obviously more expensive but certainly better value than would be expected in the UK.

The region is home to the finest goat’s cheese producers and winemaking has been deeply rooted here for centuries. This area is simply known as France’s ‘Bread Basket’

Nature: Wild Life abounds in the area with its many Rivers and Forests, nearby is the regional park La Brenne, an area of some 166,000 hectors with over 2000 man made lakes of various sizes.

An amazing diversity of natural habitats is responsible for an abundance of wildlife of which the best know are the: Purple Heron, Black necked Grebe, wetland warblers, Bittern, March Harrier, Whiskered Tern, Short-toed eagle together with water birds to numerous to mention. In the surrounding forests you can find many species of Deer and Wild Boar.

In our own gardens we have done everything we can to encourage wild life and we have numerous species of birds such as, Red Leged Partridge, Black Redstart, Fieldfare, Cirl Buntings, Great, Blue Tits, Sparrows, Swallows, House Martin, Kestral, Fly Catchers and numerous types of owls to mention just a few. We also have a number of Red Squirrels that visit the garden on a regular basis.

About Liz and Ken Mason

We are both originally from Ireland but lived in England for all of our married life.

After ending our careers Liz as a nurse and mine in business we decided to purchase Les Frippierers in 2005 and to start a new period of our life here in France.

Liz and Ken Mason purchased this house in 2005

Why Liz and Ken Mason chose Indre-et-Loire

We offer 3 different properties each with it's own individual style and layout, all fitted to a high standard. The cottages are set in just over a acre of award winning gardens and each property has it's own private piece.

We only offer the cottages to couples and therefore the ambiance is quite and peaceful, set in part of the garden is our heated swimming pool which you can sit beside or just visit from your own garden and cool down.

Luxury Gites for 2 in the beautiful Dordogne

Domaine de Fumel

The 14m x 7m swimming pool has a deep end of 2.2m and a shallow end of 0.9m with roman steps. It is near the edge of a gentle grass slope and benefits from pastoral views and inspiring sunsets. Plenty of sun beds are provided around the pool, which is diligently covered every night to retain the solar gain in temperature.

Time, care and effort have been spent with selecting the right contents for each beautifully furnished home to make them as perfect as possible. They all have china, plenty of glasses (very essential!), pots and pans etc., a large fridge with separate freeze compartment, gas fired oven and 4 burner hob, washing machine, dish-washer, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, iron and cold box for food shopping and picnics. A hand towel and tea cloths are provided for the kitchen, along with a cleaning sponge, washing up liquid, washing powder and dishwasher tablets. We also supply you with tea, coffee, milk, sugar, biscuits and a bottle of fizz to get you holiday started.

Want some peace and quiet?

  • 5 of 5

Superb, rustic accommodation in a quiet rural village (4 houses)

Great area for cycling nice quiet roads, lots of towns and villages to stop off.

The property is well equipped, clean and spacious as described, with own garden leading on to the pool area. The pool is shared between 3 properties (6 adults max)

The British owners are very friendly and helpful and speak very good French, Ken loves to book you into local restaurants etc I think he has tried them all so can recommend one to suit any tastes.

All in all a superb property, ideally suited to couples looking for peaceful, relaxing break away from it all

Le Fleuve , a home from home

  • 5 of 5

We travelled full of anticipation and were not disappointed. On arrival we met our genial host who was at great pains to explain all about the property, the facilities and the surrounding area. We found that his judgement of local (and not so local) restaurants was first class and his recommendations never let us down. The accommodation was exactly what we were looking for and we could not have been more pleased with the location, facilities and spaciousness. We were disappointed that the weather limited our forays to the pool, but that did mean that we explored the local area and its wildlife thoroughly. After all, it was the bird watching that had drawn us to the area originally. The week went all too quickly but ended as it had begun, with a recommendation for a small restaurant to visit on our way home. Needless to say it fitted perfectly and brought a grand ending to a grand holiday.

Charming and relaxing holiday property

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely and relaxing stay at this property. The house was comfortable and the garden was so lovely to relax in with views of the countryside all around. The pool was just right for the hot weather and meant that we didn't really want to do anything but chill every day. Ken and Liz were very helpful which ensured that our holiday was brilliant. We will book again next year.

Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

Sometimes, you just know when you've hit the jackpot. A last minute availability, a quick decision to take off for the long Pentecote weekend, a 4 hr drive from Paris - and suddenly you're in a different world. Greeted by name, with a warm handshake, friendly chat and a comprehensive tour of the cottage "Le Fleuve" - afterwards we find a fridge with milk and a bottle of sparkling wine; tea, coffee - little details make such a difference - Ken and Liz have furnished the cottages with the warmth of their personalities.

Nothing is too much trouble - despite getting ready for a trip of his own, Ken spent time on the phone getting us a reservation at a local restaurant on busy Pentecote Sunday.

Great pool, we shared it with dipping swallows - fantastic gardens and terraces where the challenge for guests is to sit with a glass of wine or cup of coffee in every available corner before the end of the weekend - each nook delivers a view and an ambience all of its own.

We will be back

Comfortable cottage in a peaceful rural location

  • 5 of 5

The property is well maintained and presented. It is vey comfortable and well equipped. We like to do our own cooking and the kitchen is well stocked.

The owners live next door but leave you alone. However they are on hand for advice regarding sites to see, shopping etc.

The garden and pool are welcome after a day out and about, there are different areas to sit and garden furniture is provided.

There is a lot to see in the area within a drive of an hour or less. I think to see some of the chateaux you would need a longer drive. We had plenty to do in the week that we were there.

Overall we had an enjoyable stay and would recommend the property.

Absolutely delightful and tranquil

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place in a delightful location. Our cottage, Le Fleuve, was well appointed, provided everything we needed for a peaceful, relaxing vacation. The lounge was cosy and comfortable and it was a joy relaxing in the garden and around the pool area whilst listening to the birds, with a glass of something nice in hand to enhance the experience. The website details were accurate, the place clean & tidy, and the hosts Ken & Liz very amiable. They were happy to assist if required but respected ones privacy too. We sampled the local dining which was always delicious, especially the salmon risotto on one occasion. We'd forgotten our favourite Yorkshire tea bags, but luckily Ken came to the rescue and was able to offer us a few from their own personal supply. Highly recommended and well worth the money. We hope to return again :) Many thanks, Lee & Linda

Recreational opportunities abound in the region. Biking on the almost traffic-free country roads alongside the wide rivers, privately-owned châteaux and red-roofed villages, certainly qualifies as one of the most delightful activities. The many rivers which honeycomb the area, from the Creuse to the Gartempe to the Anglin, will be of special interest to swimmers and those who enjoy fishing. Bird watching is especially well-rewarded in the Regional Park of the Brenne, a wildlife refuge. For those who would like to be a little more energetic why not borrow our bikes and try one of the easy local bike rides and of course there are plenty of local walks, we also have local stables and tennis courts. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by Golf Courses which are underplayed for most of year, our nearest is just 15 mins away.

Other Activities: Bird Watching, Chateaux

Golf: We are lucky enough to be surrounded by quality golf courses that are not only quiet but affordable. Our nearest club is the 18 hole Golf du Connetable at La Roche Posay, just 15 minutes away and is a challenge for all standard of golfers. This ‘Woburnesk’ course is set amongst conifers with oaked lined fairways, wildlife is plentiful Red Squirrel’s abound and don’t be surprised to see the odd Stag or Boar running off into the forest. Golf de La Roche Possay

At Loches we have the 9 hole Golf Loches Verneuil which has been built in association with St. Andrews. Golf Loches Verneuil

Just outside Chatellerault is the Golf du Haut Poitou, here we have both a 9 and 18 hole course set around a large lake, again the 18 hole course is a challenge to all. Golf du Haut Poitou

A bit further out is the Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir, this beautiful course is set in the grounds of an old 19th centaury Victorian style manor which is now an hotel. Golf du Manoir de Beauvoir
