About this property

Cottage Retreat - Modern Vintage- Secluded on 40 Acres-Hot Tub, Fire Pit , Porch

The Cottage Retreat is charming with a century old history. While fully maintaining the charm of its history, the Cottage has been brought into current times with all the modern conveniences including an outdoor Hot Tub. It is perfectly located halfway between both Yosemite entrances – so you can experience the unique beauty of each. This rustic luxury cabin is also just a short drive from the old gold mining town of Mariposa (www.yosemite.com/things-to-do). And for nights on the property, get ready to enjoy the dark night sky with breath-taking star gazing.

In the Cottage you’ll find all the amenities you will need in this highly upgraded 3 bedroom cozy home with 2 full baths. When you walk into Cottage Retreat, you won't find the musty stuffiness, typical of many vacation rentals. There is all new vintage furniture. The modern kitchen has all new solid stone surface counters and is decorated to look and feel like an old style farm house. You will also find it fully stocked with pots, pans, bakeware and an array of spices.

The cottage décor is professionally done to feel comfy with great function. There are 3 flat screen smart TV's, free Wi-Fi and some cell services that work well (Verizon has been two or more bars). Complimentary Netflix movies are provided.

Your new home is a two story farm house cottage with pine accents from the natural surroundings. You’ll find two bedrooms upstairs and 1 bedroom downstairs with its own bath. Natural materials were used to accent the home’s history lending to its warmth and the charm of times gone by. Look and you’ll see wood in the home that's about a 100 years old. The floors upstairs are original, but reworked during the special renovation. The living room, dining area and kitchen are all open, allowing you to enjoy watching your favorite movies or shows and to stay warm with the fireplace in the cooler months.

We have central air-conditioning and heat for your comfort any time of the year (a rare, desirable feature in such rustic homes, as opposed to typical noisy wall units). You'll find a new, easily accessible laundry room with washer and dryer. Here is another nice unique feature - you won't be bothered while trying to sleep by creaky floorboards with people walking above - the downstairs master bedroom has no second floor above it.

There are two outside sitting areas - one is a front porch looking at the woodlands and any wildlife and the other belongs to the master bedroom with its own private deck to sit, allowing some private time. We provide a Barbecue and propane for you, along with a rock fire pit with firewood, that can be used except during the fire season. The outside area is large and level, making it a great place for kids to play, ride bikes and explore nearby. Set on 40 acres, the property will invite you to stay, relax and take leisurely hikes and enjoy the forested and scenic views of the Sierras from locations on the property. Peace and quiet are the best things you’ll notice when you stay at the cottage. The dark night sky is perfect for star gazing.

The cottage is set back just off the main route 49, near the historic town of Mariposa and is half way between two entrances to Yosemite Park. You’ll want to sample both easy but different drives into Yosemite - either via the west entrance with HWY 140 along the valley floor beside the Merced River or via the south entrance with HWY 41 through the Sierra mountains.

If you need more space for a family reunion or get together of friends, several hundred feet away, you can reserve our sister property - the remarkable 2 bedroom Log House Retreat with over 75 Five Star reviews. And 3 miles away is our 2 bedroom Valerian Retreat - winner of over 150 Five Star reviews. (bit.ly/YosemiteRusticLuxuryRetreats)

This location is a great place to retreat to after a busy day with the crowds of summer in Yosemite. The cabin is also a great hideaway in the fall, winter and spring. As the temperature drops, the property, with its special setting, may welcome you with a beautiful snowscape.

Come and visit! You won’t want to leave.

The Cottage Retreat is a great starting location for day trips to many points of interest:

To Yosemite through west entrance –
Go north on route 49 to reach the arch rock highway 140 entrance that takes you through the historic town of Mariposa and along the valley floor of the scenic Merced River canyon. It is a beautiful drive which will take you about 45 minutes to an hour to reach the park. There are many places along the road to stop and enjoy the wild and scenic river. This area is known for spectacular wild flower viewing.

To Yosemite through south entrance –
Go south on route 49 to reach Oakhurst - a larger town with many services, dining and shopping options. In Oakhurst, you will turn left onto highway 41 east to wind your way up the mountain into Yosemite Park through the quaint little villages of Fish Camp and Wawona – both places of many interests. Near Wawona is the must see Mariposa Grove of giant redwoods. As you drive further toward Yosemite just after the tunnel, be sure to pull off to see the spectacular view of the Yosemite valley from above.

• Bass lake is located fifteen minutes from Oakhurst. It is a hopping place during warm weather for water sports and just catching some sun and a picnic for the day. Bass lake offers water sports rentals, shops, casual as well as fine dining options. 'Ducey's on the Lake' is a favorite restaurant.

• There are 3 local golf courses just minutes away: Sierra Meadows, River Creek and Wawona; the latter is just inside Yosemite.

• During the winter months you can travel to Badger Pass to enjoy downhill and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

• Many of the communities have many other activities throughout the year! On local websites you can find events like festivals, the arts and wineries to explore. Mariposa has a zip line and river rafting in the summer, as well as horseback riding on forested trails.

• Mariposa has its own airport just 10 minutes from town and 20 minutes from the cabin. Car rentals are available at the airport with advance reservations.

• Fresno international Airport is about 1 hour and 15 minute drive to the cabin.

Fabulous!!
This property is wonderful. I searched and searched for a cottage near Yosemite and found most of the properties to be dated and dingy until I found this one. It is beautifully decorated and immaculately clean. The outside area is fabulous and private too. My family only stayed three nights but I wished I had stayed three weeks! I loved sitting on the terrace area having breakfast and then in the evening with a wine. We were lucky enough to see two deer pass by! Its close proximity to Yosemite is perfect, a lovely drive but not too far. The nearby town of Mariposa is lovely, we got groceries there and had ice creams. Ted was also so helpful with a couple of questions we had and responded so quickly. I am fussy but would recommend this property in a heartbeat.

5 Star property !!
We were so impressed with the standard and location of the property we have already recommended to friends and family, the cottage was so clean and welcoming and everything you would need was available and even a few treats from Michelle, such effort had been put into the cottage you could tell Michelle cared about her visitors, I would highly recommend if you are on a bit of a road trip like we were to make this a definite stay, thank you, Michelle,.

Excellent Sierra Getaway!
Really enjoyed our three night stay at the Cottage Retreat. We had a little bit of everything weather-wise during our short mid-April trip (even a surprise snow shower!) but the cottage was the perfect place in all conditions. Between the hot tub, living room fireplace, outdoor fire pit, covered porch and hiking paths with great views--there was a nice place to enjoy all kinds of weather right on the property. We were traveling with our outdoor-loving pup and this place was paradise for her. We had so much fun walking the easy hiking trails on-property. And the area right around the house had lots of relatively open yard to play fetch and romp around without getting lost in the brush. The nearby town of Mariposa has lots of great local places to dine and shop. Appreciated the restaurant recs provided by the host. And Yosemite is, of course, amazing. We hope to return to the Cottage Retreat soon for another trip!

I was brought up on the east coast with four seasons. Later moving to California to work as a physician, I had the good fortune to travel to Mariposa and Yosemite during the winter season to find a truly unique splendor. I decided that this was the ideal place to go for rest, while getting back in touch with nature.

Why they chose this property

This property is unique as it sits so quietly and privately surrounded by 40 acres of forest and fields at 3200 feet altitude and yet easily accessible from Route 49 about a mile away and the town of Mariposa.. Each of our three properties is so well suited to provide you and your family a truly memorable rustic yet thoroughly clean and modern home from which to see the wondrous sites of Yosemite Park. bit.ly/YosemiteRusticLuxuryRetreats

What makes this property unique

Bring a book and get ready to enjoy the peace and rustic beauty from one of the two large decks overlooking the woods. Ready to take a walk? No need to go looking elsewhere, when you are ready to explore nature. You'll find carved paths traversing the property's 40 acres.

This home will take you back a century with the original design elements and redone materials, while maintaining the up-to-date conveniences.
