"Ginger & Cacao" is a sanctuary like luxury property of one acre of lush tropical jungle with ocean views, at 200 m above the Atlantic and 10 min walk to Punta Uva beach.

More than ever, its layout with individual homes and no interaction with other staying guests, provides for a heathy and relaxing vacation.

Ginger & Cacao includes two luxury villas and a cottage, a pool with leisure area and pool pavilion, and caretakers' cottage, with the property laundry.

"Ginger & cacao" is perfect for individual vacations, family gatherings, small weddings parties and honeymoons.

Each house in the property has its own space and privacy and each one is unique. High ceilings, hardwood floors, massive wooden doors and large decks complete the villas’ elegant furnishings. Each house has free WiFi and TV/cable. Fans ventilate every space in the villas, sliding mosquito screens are installed on every door and window.

Villa Cacao is build at the elevated portion of the property, it has fantastic ocean and jungle views from all rooms. The villa has one master suit with a queen size bed and a full bath with indoor and outdoor showers. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishwasher including, and bar which connects it with the large deck. The sitting area has a dedicated full bath and is beautifully furnished with two twin beds that could easily be set for comfortable sleeping. Villa Cacao shares the parking bellow the cottage. A private path takes you to the beautiful pool area.

Villa Ginger is nested into the surrounding jungle with views of it from every single window and deck. The villa has two bedrooms with queen size beds, one full bathroom with jungle views, fully equipped kitchen with dining area and two large decks. The villa has its own parking space at the front and sitting area under the nearby almond tree. A minute walk on paved path will take you to the pool area.

Both villas have safe deposit boxes installed in the bedroom wardrobes. Please secure all your valuables and close/lock all windows and doors before leaving the property.

The White Cottage, the third house at the property, is build under huge trees and next to the pool. The ocean views from its large verandas are terrific. The cottage is full of light; its style & design truly reflect the owner’s ideas for beach comfort. This cottage is perfect for honeymoon vacations.

The beautiful pool area, surrounded by jungle and gardens, includes a pavilion with swinging daybeds and a leisure area with chaises and umbrellas.

The pool area is the perfect spot to see large families of capuchin and howling monkeys raiding the treetops and to observe the amazing toucans on nearby trees.

The property is interesting to explore. It consists of authentic tropical jungle with landscaped bromelia gardens around each house, and plants with lots of colors and fragrance. The numerous cacao trees and ginger plants inspired the name, “Ginger & Cacao”.

The property is maintained by caretakers. For your service and convenience, they reside in a separate cottage on the property grounds by the gate.

‘ Ginger & Cacao” is perfectly located at just short walk to Punta Uva Beach, one of the most striking in Costa Rica. A rare place, still kept as natural as possible, with a minimum negative impact of over-development. Here is where the jungle meets the white sand beach with its emeralds waters and the almond trees to provide a natural shade. It’s not crowded and it's safe for swimming, kayaking and snorkeling.

In Punta Uva one feels in complete connection with nature. There is nothing more beautiful than to get on a bicycle and go for an early morning ride to Gandoca- Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge. There is so much life and activity in the jungle at this time of the day. Howling monkeys call from the tree tops, butterflies and birds fly around searching for food.

Punta Uva is a very private area, removed from the traffic and congestion in areas closer to Puerto Viejo. There are few excellent restaurants and grocery stores. If you choose, you can quickly get to Puerto Viejo.

At night, the action happens in Puerto Viejo. It might look a bit shabby, but give it some time and it will grow on you. The somewhat sleepy village turns vibrant at night, full of life and music, with the smell of food coming from all directions. Ocean-front bars blast reggae and calypso. Shops stay open till late hours.

“Ginger & Cacao” offers an exiting and safe place to stay in the middle of the jungle, and a fantastic opportunity for a memorable experience of the Caribbean Costa Rica.

Séjour inoubliable (Wonderful holidays !)

Que dire, a part que ce séjour a été du début à la fin une parenthèse enchantée ! Même si nous n'avons pas pu voir Zvezda, elle a toujours répondu à mes mails, a été d'une grande écoute et gentillesse. Les gardiens, Claudia et Adonis, sont TELLEMENTS gentils !! Nous avons dormis dans les deux maisons, Ginger et Cacao, et que dire? Magnifique maison, décorées avec goûts, on s'y sent vraiment bien ! Le jardin ,la piscine, tout est parfait. Tous les soirs,sans exceptions, nous entendions les singes hurleurs, et un matin ils étaient face à notre chambre. Tous les jours, toucans et perroquets nous rendaient visite. A 2 min de la mer, 10 min de Puerto Viejo en voiture, c'est l'emplacement idéal ! Seul bémol au paradis : la piscine beaucoup trop chlorée ! Donc nous en avons peu profité. Mais on oublie vite cet inconvénient minime. Encore merci pour ce superbe séjour et j'espère revenir un jour !!

Puerto Viejo Tropical Paradise

What a beautiful property! Communication with the owner was fantastic. We rented the three casitas on the property and all were perfect for our group. The grounds and pool were immaculate. The wildlife was abundant with sloths, parrots, toucans, capuchin monkeys, howlers and more. Cesar and Maribel were there for all of our needs and made us feel safe. Would highly recommend for sure!

The Ginger Cacao

The house on the property we stayed at is called the Ginger Cacao. The view of the jungle and ocean from the balcony is exquisite. In the mornings you can hear and see many different birds and hear the howler monkeys in the trees nearby. We sat in the balcony listening and bird watching every day. The pool area and cabana are shared with the other two houses but only one house had visitors who were lovely people. The pool area is gorgeous and the grounds around the entire compound are well kept. The listing for the house we rented was confusing because we thought we were getting 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. If you count the living room as a bedroom, then I guess that is true, although the bench couch would need to be considered a bed. Thankfully my friend did not mind sleeping there and we loved the location, views, and property. There is a convenient store and some small restaurants in walking distance and plenty close by if you are driving or take the local taxi. There is also a nice grocery store in close driving distance. The Punta UVA beach is very close to the south and is gorgeous. The property manager was very responsive and the care-takers lovely and helpful people. We would visit again and stay at the ginger cacao in a heartbeat!

Amazing property

Our family (two kids ages 15 and 12) stayed a week here. It truly is an amazing property. Both houses were very clean and had everything we needed for a week. The owner is very easy to contact and will answer any questions you might have. She went out of her way to ensure we had a great time. Everything from setting up the shuttle to/from the airport to dinner recommendations to local attractions to visit. She is awesome! The on-site hosts (Cesar) was also very helpful. From bringing in our bags to setting up taxis. He was awesome. We spent almost every afternoon at the pool. It is a great place to relax and take in nature. In a week we saw macaws, howler monkeys, spider monkeys, sloths and iguanas all on the property. The pool is not an Olympic size pool but perfect for a small family to relax in. Or take a nap in the awesome lounge beds. The property is a bit from Puerto Viejo. Maybe a 8-10 min taxi ride or 20-30 min bike ride. Bike rentals are just at the bottom of the hill ($6 a day). Almost everyone rides bikes to get around. There are a few great restaurants within walking distance as well. Beach is about a 5 min walk. The climb up the road to the property is no joke! But at least and end of it you can head right to the pool to cool off! This truly is an amazing property. I would highly recommend staying here if you decide to vacation in the Puerto Viejo area. You won’t be disappointed!

My name is Zvezda. I'm Bulgarian by origin, lived in the country till 1993 when I moved to Los Angeles. I lived there for almost 20 years. Starting 2011, I've been living in Costa Rica, San Jose- Escazu. In November, 2014 I purchased this property.
I was educated in Bulgaria, have degrees in both Law and Business Management . Following my passion for fashion, art and design, I reinvented myself and opened a store ZVEZDA- Fashion & Art in Santa Monica, CA. We were in business from 2007 till 2011 when I moved to Costa Rica. These four years in business were full of excitement, hard work, creativity and traveling the world looking for unique pieces to add to our collections. I'm in Costa Rica inspired by my collaboration with very talented local sculptors for their hand-carved from discarded exotic wood sculptures and decorative bowls. Like many other Costa Rica visitors, I fell in love with the country so I moved here. In 2014 I saw this property and I decided to go for it. That's how my new journey begun!

Why they chose this property

Because it was beautiful, because it excited me and because it stimulated my creativity. I saw great potentials in developing it into something special.
In general, I find the beauty of nature of the Caribbean Costa Rica striking. I've traveled the world extensively and have seen gorgeous beaches in many places. But this area, with the pristine jungle meeting the white sand beaches with its emerald waters is quite spectacular.
The property has great location. At just 300m to the one of the most beautiful beaches of Costa Rica, Punta Uva, and with its direct access to it, I found it irresistible. I know the attraction of having a beachfront property. But in this case, its vicinity to the beach, the slightly elevated terrain that opened views of the ocean and caught the breeze, I felt that the property had the best of all. And then, the beauty of nature. Lush and green, and full of colors. Whichever way you look around you see only the best of the tropical jungle. The trees are full of life and the only sounds that disturb the silence are the calls of the howling monkeys and of birds that I'm yet to learn their names. The property's terrain and spaciousness allowed me to build two more houses without disturbing the privacy of the existing ones, one cottage for the caretakers and a cottage by the pool - loft style. I felt that a pool in the heart of the jungle with a deck and leisure area around was needed to complete my vision and to offer the best experiences for our guests. The property's name "Ginger & Cacao" came to me naturally, I just looked around and named if after our beautiful cacao trees and ginger plants.
