Charming studio apartment with sunny terrace in Old Town, Nice

Overview

Property

Updated: 08-Dec-2016
A self-catering holiday rental apartment for two, 5 minutes walk from beach

Our studio apartment is on the top (3rd) floor in a pedestrianised street in the heart of the Old Town. It's light and spacious (15ft x 14ft) with two floor-to-ceiling French doors opening out on to a 15 ft x 4ft south-east facing terrace, perfect for breakfast. Unlike many other holiday-lets, our charges are fully inclusive of bedlinen & towels, cleaning and heating, and free Wi-fi. The French artist Dufy was so captivated by the street and 'La Treille' next door to us, so-called because of the massive grapevines growing up it - that he depicted it in his painting 'Le mai a Nice', a poster of which hangs in our studio. There's a double sofa-bed, an equipped kitchen area and shower room/WC. We kept the ceiling beams exposed and bought furniture from the local 'brocante' market, keeping the charm. The famous Promenade des Anglais and beach are just 5 minutes' walk away. Discover the restaurants, markets, shops and art galleries of Nice. Explore the fabulous Cote d'Azur. Journey inland to the 'perched villages'. Nice is ideal all the year round. There's easy access from Nice airport. AND YOU DON'T NEED A CAR.

Fab location!

This charming studio is ideally situated in the old town where restaurants, cafes, food markets and so on are on your door step. You can walk to the port, the beach or at the top of the castle garden where you get the most fantastic view of Nice and the bay.An ideal romantic getaway!

Owner's Response: Cinamon must be right about an 'ideal romantic getaway'. My husband's daughter's boyfriend proposed to her while they were staying at the apartment. They walked to the fountain on Castle Hill where he got down on his knees (he would - he's French!), said the magic words, then produced the ring. It fell into the fountain, which was in full speight that day. He managed to rescue it, though. He would! They celebrated their second wedding anniversary last month. Jennifer

Although the apartment is small it is very charming with a lovely balcony,

  • 4 of 5

Set in the lovely surrounds of old town, the apartment is suitably located near to all amenities and tourist points. Once you arrive at nice airport, i would recommend getting the 98 bus to place grimaldi and from then its a quick walk to the apartment. It does have steep steps to get to the 3rd floor but you soon get used to these. Its a studio flat but there is more than enough that you would need and a lovely balcony area. You do have neighbours immediately opposite your balcony but you can keep the room cool but opening windows and shutting the blinds for privacy. Thankfully there was a fan as it does get very warm so the fan provides some much needed relief. We have a wonderful time and were very pleased with our charming and quaint accommodation

Owner's Response: Most people are taken with the charm of Nice Old Town. We certainly were when we bought the apartment over 20 years ago. Like this holiday-maker, we liked the fact that you can walk to all the local amenities: shops, markets, restaurants, public transport and, of course, the sea. Our studio is rare in the Old Town for having a terrace which is perfect for enjoying the sun and effectively acts as a second room for so much of the year. Jennifer

Great location - terrace being a big plus

  • 4 of 5

The property as per photos, with very good location - in the old town, yet close to the city centre, port, beach etc. We loved our mornings on the terrace and the bakery some 100 m far - we used to buy there our breakfast (croissant aux apricots being our best). We arrived shortly after the tragedy, so it is good to know that everyday, there is a cannon shot at noon - we got scared until we found out...

Our flight was early in the morning and we were very pleased to read a notice left at the table in the property, that it had already been cleaned, and we could stay there (before we agreed with the owner just to leave there our luggage till the afternoon).

Before the arrival, we were given detailed instructions and even pictures of how to do some things, thus it was easy to find the property and to turn on everything needed. There is plenty of tourist materials available.

I would recommend this property. I find it a bit small, but still perfect for a couple - unless you wish to spend the entire time inside. Everything working well.

We have no negative experience with restaurants - so just try the one you like ;-), but I must mention nougat (Le Nougat de Montségur) - try the lavender one.

Talking about the beach - if you prefer no/smaller waves and much smaller pebbles and shallower sea than at Nice, go to Villefranche (bus 100 from the port, €1.50 ticket, every 15 minutes). Or you can stay in the bus and visit, at the same price, other places on the way to Menton (incl. Monaco).

Simple but comfortable studio in excellent locatio

  • 4 of 5

Studio was exactly as advertised and we quickly felt at home. The steps were steep but we had been warned in the advert. The location was quiet apart from the nearby church bell. The studio is very well located just south of Place Garibaldi in a pedestrianised side street but close to Monoprix and local restaurants. It is conveniently close to the tram line and the office for the local bus company and we explored widely. We would happily return.

Owner's Response: Ah yes, the bells of St Martin's Church. They do ring rather alarmingly on Sunday morning, waking you up on what is probably the first day of your Saturday to Saturday booking. After that they are very well-behaved, striking on the hour during the day and always silent at night. So for the rest of your stay you can be sure to enjoy the peace of our pedestrianised street while still being conveniently central. And, hey, it wouldn't be La Vrai France if there weren't some church bells, would it! Jennifer

Nice studio in the centre of Nice

  • 5 of 5

Very Nice studio in the old centre of Nice. Everything in walking distance: supermarket, the port, restaurants and musea. Beautiful beach in Beaulieu sur Mer. Also visit villa Kerylos there: very beautiful! You can take bus 81, which leaves from Promenade des Arts. In the studio you have everything you need, including books, info about Nice etc.

Thanks again Jennifer for a very pleasant stay in your studio!

Owner's Response: The buses from Nice will take you all over the place, and for just 1.5 euros each way - though there's plenty to keep you happy within walking distance of our apartment, too! Jennifer

Fantastic stay.

We had a wonderful stay at the property. It's location is perfect; right in the heart of the old town, but just down a quiet cobbled street. Sitting on the balcony soaking up the atmosphere was our favourite pastime. I would definitely recommend it.

Owner's Response: I'm so happy when I hear that holiday-makers who stay at our studio apartment love being in the heart of the Old Town. It's exactly why we bought the place nearly 20 years ago - and of course our terrace off the living room always helps! Perfect for breakfast and, after a day's sightseeing, an evening glass of wine, or two... Jennifer

Nice is many holidays in one. Just five minutes' walk from the apartment, you've got the seaside and the famous Promenade des Anglais; Cannes, Monte Carlo, Menton, Monaco and the Italian riviera are just a boat, bus or train ride away. Take the bus or train into the mountains behind Nice, with their perched villages rising from the rocks. Or explore the narrow streets of the Old Town with their spice, patisserie and cheese shops; outdoor markets; numerous restaurants and cafes. For a wonderful panorama of Nice, walk to the Castle Hill park, just a minute from our apartment - or take the lift. Beyond the Castle Hill park is the Port/marina with its fishing and pleasure boats and cafes. And beyond the Port, take the path East along the rocks where you can swim and sunbathe away from the bustle of the main beach. For the culture vulture, there are churches and art galleries, too. Artists Picasso, Leger, Matisse, Cocteau, Chagall and Dufy all lived and worked on the Cote d'Azur.
