The Old Smithy: The Old Smithy is an individual and interesting 18th Century Hamstone Cottage. Formerly part of a farm, the dairy buildings now form the main house the original black smiths has been retained as a workshop. Needless to say it has enjoyed considerable extension and upgrading! Set in a quarter of an acre of fully enclosed, well stocked and private gardens, this family cottage has a host of character features and lies in a quiet residential area on the southern outskirts of the Market Town of Crewkerne.
The local Hamstone used in the area is a beautiful, rich gold colour and incredibly thickly laid in construction making it cool in summer and snug in winter. The cottage is mainly laid to carpet and enjoys double glazing and gas fired central heating throughout. The kitchen and dining area enjoys underfloor heating.

The Old Smithy is a family home, providing very spacious, comfortable, family accommodation.

The Garden: The Garden is very private and mainly laid to lawn covering about 1 quarter of an acre to include main garden (ideal for football and cricket!) a children’s garden and a BBQ area (adult dining & sunbathing!)
The BBQ area is a fantastic sun trap, equipped with a fridge to keep the essentials cold, together with the comfortable garden furniture and peaceful surroundings, ensures relaxation for all!
The garden has mature boarders, apple trees and a variety of evergreen and perennial shrubs which makes this a wonderfully private and spacious area to enjoy outdoor living.

Additional Accommodation: The Folly was originally a garage (situated at the bottom of the drive on the edge of the garden) now converted into a self contained double room with en-suite facilities, double bed, large dressing table, two comfortable chairs, cupboard and drawers. Also with the added luxury of a wall mounted TV. There is a concertinaed door to walk-in wardrobe with hanging space and drawers. Great place for large family
We were a family group of 10 aged 7-88. We loved the beautiful huge garden. The separate folly was a great for Great Grandpa being ground floor and separate from the noise when needed. Kids loved the attic bedroom with all the toys. Well equipped kitchen, dining table big enough to seat everyone. Crewkerne pleasant but not much to see, but lots of places to visit within 30 mins drive.

Great experience
There were 9 in our party and the house had plenty of space for all of us. It is extremely well equipped and we wanted for nothing. The garden is huge and great for outdoor entertaining with fire pit and bbq. Crewkerne is in such a beautiful area i would definitely return. Thanks for a great week Hilary

Family break away
The Old Smithy was perfect for our family break away together . . . 10 people across 3 generations and a dog. The space in the house and the amazing safe, enclosed gardens were so suitable for all of us, whatever our age. There was a slight (manageable) problem with one of the shower drains . . . hence the 4/5 marking on the first category but the owner arranged for this to be sorted as soon as we let her know. Would recommend, thank you Hilary.

About the host

We have been letting out The Old Smithy since 2007. As a family we spend the Easter, May half term and summer holidays away. We decided that we would love to let other families enjoy our beautiful home and garden while we are away.

Why they chose this property

The Old Smithy is our family home and is fully equipped with all your needs for a relaxing holiday with family and friends. We pack all of our gear away - so you will find The Old Smithy is fully equipped and ready for you to move into and it make yours for the duration of your stay.
The Old Smithy has enjoyed a total refurbishment of the kitchen, fully fitted bespoke handmade pine kitchen units with quartz work top, Quooker tap providing instant boiling water, electric blinds and underfloor heating in the kitchen and dining area, new conservatory carpet, new sitting room carpet and full redecoration throughout the sitting room and stairs.
The Old Smithy is beautifully located for you to be able to explore Somerset, Devon and Dorset. Some of our previous guests have headed east to Stonehenge, west to a spot of surfing on the North Coast of Devon, or popped down to West Bay to see where Broadchurch is filmed and enjoy the stunning scenery there.

What makes this property unique

The Old Smithy is a very unique property. It has the benefits of being an older style property with the space to accommodate family and friends. The added benefit of The Folly, the separate double annexe with en-suite, allows for unique make up of parties - where some members of the party can have their own space - should they wish!
The large, private garden is perfect for the most energetic of children, or a complete chill in the sun on the BBQ area, equipped with fridge to keep the essentials cold, should you wish, or an evening gathered around the fire pit on the fire pit area!
