Stunning villa with private pool in Axarquia region of Costa del Sol

Updated: 11-Oct-2016
3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms+ shower, sleeps 8

Casa Beni perches on its own 'infinity' platform on the very edge of the lovely white-washed village of Canillas de Aceituno. The villa has three bedrooms en-suite and is beautifully decorated throughout having spacious accommodation for 6 to 8 people. The main open-plan living space includes a fully equipped modern kitchen, large dining table, big sofas and a wood-burning fire. There is a large covered terrace just outside the living room with a mosaic table for 10. There are also various other seating areas around the property and a large gas BBQ. The 8m x 4m swimming pool is set on its own gated terrace below the villa. There are 8 sun-loungers which are light enough to be moved around to the different terraces and large parasols to block out the mid-day sun.

The wonderful thing about Casa Beni is that you can walk to the centre of the village in 5 minutes and yet sitting on the terrace in the evening, listening to the crickets, one feels as if one is in the deep countryside.

Round and About: Canillas is a wonderfully friendly hospitable village with about 3 restaurants and lots of bars. You can do all your shopping up here as there are several greengrocers, a couple of butchers, a chemist and 3 banks. One can buy fish from the van that visits almost every day.

A 20 minute drive takes you down to an enormous supermarket, Eroski, and an outlet centre which has all the best shops in it and also a cinema. There is also an Aqua Park. There is a tennis court in the village but not Wimbledon standard! Also a large public pool and restaurant which is quite a good meeting place. Riding and hiking all over the country side and up into the Sierra Tejada National Park which borders Casa Beni. Mountain biking is also fantastic from here but one needs to be fit!

Malaga provides so many things to see and do - remember that this was Picasso's birth place so there are lots of art galleries and museums.

Spectacular views, white houses on dark hillsides, Mediterranean sunshine, street markets, chiringuito lunches and rioja dinners. It is more that 15 years since I was last in Malaga..... My God what a change. To my eyes you can keep the coast.... but, Ah! the mountains are pristine and begging to be explored, picnic-ed, climbed and trekked. I would love to explore the wilderness that begins a few hundred metres above your house, just the little taste we got has given me an appetite for more.

Canillas de Aceituno is a haven of peace far from the madness of mass tourism and Casa Beni is an eagle's perch apart. Thank you for introducing us to a world I only knew from a map.

Better than advertised

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Casa Beni was the most wonderful two week vacation we've had in 27 years of marriage - beautiful, beautiful villa - just perfect. It was all that was advertised, even more. We so enjoyed exploring the village a short walk away. In addition to letter perfect directions on finding the villa, the owner also sent us helpful information on restaurants and beaches. The local contacts provided, Sonia and Ian, were great! So helpful in suggesting adventures! Bahia de Tanit beach was fantastic. Went on the ferry to Tangiers - incredible. We'll never forget our time here.

Owner's Response: Thank you for all your kind words. Adventures - whether it is exploring the adjoining Sierra Tejada National Park or visiting Granada, Marbella or even Tangiers - it is all possible and all so exciting! So glad that you loved Casa Beni; it is very special.

Stunning in every way!

  • 5 of 5

Believe every single one of these 5-star reviews; Casa Beni truly is that amazing! We were 5 adults (siblings and spouses) visiting this region of Spain for the 1st time. Unfortunately for us, our 3-week European holiday was packed solid with places to go, things to see and do every day ~~ I say unfortunately because it would have been absolutely divine to have had many more days just hanging at Casa Beni, enjoying the pool, the terraces, the view!, cooking in Angie's very well-equipped kitchen, dining alfresco, etc etc etc. As it was, we used it as our home base to visit Malaga, Granada, Nerja, Fragiliana and Ronda. It was perfect! We loved returning each evening in time for stunning sunsets and walking to dinner in town. Dinner at La Maroma is a must! Delightful father, sons and daughter that will ensure you enjoy their food and your evening. Everything on the menu is delicious.

My advice: stay at Casa Beni for 1 week, 2 weeks, longer; you will not want to leave. We were sad to depart. Thank you, Angie, for creating such a warm and welcoming home, and sharing it with guests. We loved everything!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind review - always so nice to know that my guests have enjoyed themselves. Casa Beni is a very special place - convenient for being able to walk into the village of Canillas and also a tremendous springboard for visiting so much of Andalusia and the south of Spain. You did seem to have visited so many interesting places - well done!

Even better than 'that good'!

  • 5 of 5

We were initially attracted to this property by the flattering photos and the uniformly positive reviews, although we secretly thought that nothing could be that good. On arrival we discovered that not only is Casa Beni 'that good', it is even better. The villa is situated in a stunning location with breathtaking views across the lake and mountains to the sea beyond. Three attractive terraces afford perfect vantage points for enjoying these views, as well as for sunbathing, alfresco dining and even, for the more energetic, playing table tennis. There is also a large swimming pool on a lower terrace which enjoys the sun throughout the day. The interior of the villa is of the same high quality with a well-equipped kitchen opening onto a tastefully furnished living/dining area, and three large bedrooms, two of them en suite. We chose the upstairs master- bedroom which is light, bright and airy, and opens onto a delightful terrace. The villa and grounds are so spacious that even after a week, we felt we had not explored them fully or made full use of all the options. Though there were only two of us, this villa can comfortably accommodate a group of six adults. Apart from the many and manifest attractions of the villa itself, we were drawn by its close proximity to the village of Canillas, the centre of which is just ten minutes walk away from the villa. We quickly adopted the evening habit of strolling down to our favourite bar in the village square for a 'pint' of San Miguel and a bit of people-watching. The village contains several small but surprisingly well stocked food shops, as well as a number of good bars and restaurants tucked away in its labyrinth of narrow cobbled streets. This is a picture-perfect Andalucian white village in a wonderful setting in the mountains. In brief, it is hard to find enough superlatives to describe this villa and its location. For us, it was a little bit of paradise which even the EU referendum result on our final day could not spoil!

Finally, I would like to thank Angie, the owner, who dealt with all of our enquiries promptly, efficiently and amiably and by so doing made the whole process of booking the villa completely hassle-free.

We can strongly recommend this villa to couples and families, without reservation.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a nice review. I am so glad you liked it! Yes the table-tennis is a big bonus. It is lovely to play in the evenings out on the terrace, surrounded by the wonderful smells of jasmine and orange blossom and listening to the noise of the cicadas and the goat bells in the distance as they are herded home for the night. Wonderful that you enjoyed the swimming in April too.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely words about Casa Beni and Canillas de Aceituno and so glad you loved it like I do. I can't wait to go out there in a weeks time and smell the wonderful spring flowers and listen to the goats bells as they are herded up into the hills behind the villa, while sitting on the terrace looking all the way down to the Med with a glass of chilled rioja in hand!

Beautiful villa with crystal clear swimming pool, perfectly appointed house, gorgeous views in every direction, and and owner who was warm, responsive and very knowledgeable about the area. This was the perfect home base from which to explore Andelucía. One of the many highlights was hiking in the mountains above the village. We had to step off the path to let a large herd of goats - followed by their herder on his cell phone - pass by.

Casa Beni is set between the Sierra Tejeda National Park and the famous white-washed village of Canillas de Aceituno, just 40 minutes north east of Malaga. The villa looks out over Lake Vinuela and down to the sea beyond - the Costa del Sol being a beautiful 20 minute drive away. Torre del Mar is the nearest seaside resort and here one can find some fine beach bars. A bit further along the coast are more intimate and private beaches and just outside Nerja, the famous Burriana beach. There are two golf courses within 25 minutes drive and an aquapark.

This is the perfect location to explore the rest of the Axarquia country side and the real Spain or nip down to the coast where the pace is a little faster. Marbella and Puerto Banus are within 1.5 hours and Malaga, which is full of culture and wonderful shops, a mere 40 minutes away. Nerja and its famous caves are definitely worth a visit - 25 minutes. The beautiful Alhambra Palace in Granada takes 1.5 hours and Sevilla a couple of hours.
