About Mrs Shelagh Richards

Hi, we're Bob , Shelagh and Ernie the border Terrier. We live in Scotland and love using Pucks Lodge to escape

Mrs Shelagh Richards purchased this lodge in 2009

Why Mrs Shelagh Richards chose Scotland

We fell in love with this peaceful area of Scotland and bought our holiday home in 2009. We had such fun using it that we decided to share it and allow other people to enjoy the beautiful area.

What makes this lodge unique

Being dog owners , we were always looking for pet friendly properties that allowed us to enjoy beautiful scenery. We fell in love with the area around Pucks Glen , it has a magical feel and Ernie the border terrier just loves exploring the woodland.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We enjoyed our stay in your lovely lodge. Of course we walked the Pucks Glen walk, we spent a whole day in Benmore Gardens and we visited Dunoon. We loved the blooming rhododendrons in the woods. One day we saw a little deer on the terrain of the lodges. We just said to each other, we have not seen deer here and there he was!

Thank you for staying in your lodge.

Lovely lodge in peaceful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

Myself and 2 friends stayed at the lodge for 3 nights in April.

The lodge is very nicely decorated and has everything you need. Pucks Glen is literally out the back of the lodge and it's a lovely walk.

We also visited the Benmore Botanical Garden which was beautiful and took a day trip to Tighnabruaich Ostel bay which is the most stunning beach!!! We also popped into Dunoon for a visit where there are supermarkets and restaurants.

If I were to visit again I'd definitely visit in Summer, it was pretty cold in April, bring lots of layers!

Our hosts Shelagh and Bob were always on hand to answer any questions we had they were very quick to respond to our requests.

It was a lovely trip!

Great setting for exploring the area

  • 4 of 5

The lodge is really well set up with everything you could need to make it feel like a home from home. There are lots of little extra touches too.

The setting is great for walking as there are several lovely walks on your doorstep and loads more only a short drive away.

The lodges are also a good place for seeing lots wildlife; deer just near by every evening, lots of different birds including some very tame robins, and if you're up early you are likely to see red squirrels at the various bird feeders outside the logdes.

The only negative is that there is a bit of noise from the road , I was glad this particular lodge is set a bit further back from the road. (We do live in a very quiet place mind you and aren't used to any road noise at all!)

Owner's Response: Michael, We're really glad you enjoyed your stay and had the opportunity to see some of the local wildlife! We agree At this time of year when the trees are sparse you can hear some road noise from some of the lodges, luckily as you say not from Pucks Lodge which is set back on the opposite side of the park. Thanks again for staying with us.

'Christmas Winter Wonderland'

  • 5 of 5

This was our first Christmas Holiday away from home. As we pulled into the site the view took your breath away, even though it was dark when we arrived - the snow just made everything bright. While my husband unloaded the van I took Tam (our dog) for a walk along Pucks Lane it was fantastic the trees all looked like Christmas trees. It was a little chilly when we arrived at the lodge, it was -10 outside. The cabin was even better than we expected from the brochure. The owners I feel, have thought of everything that you may need for your holiday. There were even extra blankets placed around the cabin. The directions provided were spot on, just as well as we arrived much later than expected in the dark. We visited the gardens which were only a very short walk from the cabin. We didn't walk round them as everything was covered in snow, but we did try the cafe which served very nice home cooked food. There is also a very nice old Inn just 2.5 miles from the site, easy walking distance in good weather. My husband went on some fantastic walks with our dog Tam, as usual he bought an OS map of the area we were staying so he could get the most out of his walks. I have already recommended Pucks Lodge to friends and family and would like to visit it at a different time of year. We had a very nice relaxing stay in the cabin, just what we needed to recharge our batteries for the new year ahead. I have a photograph of the outside of the cabin and trees covered in snow as my screen saver, it makes me feel good every time I see it and reminds me of a really good holiday.
