Overview

About the property

5 Bedroom renovated stone house sleeps 10+

Moun Mas, a truly magnificent, traditional stone mas (Farmhouse),has been sympathetically restored to a very high standard in 2008. The house consists of 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a very large kitchen and a large living / dining area opening onto the terace. Private Pool with large sun terrace and al fresco dining area. Ample parking.

Moun Mas was bought and renovated by its owners and has only recently come on the rental market having undergone complete restoration during 2008.

The house has two floors with a mezzanine being the upper. The ground floor is open plan consisting of a very large kitchen (for the cooking enthusiast) with magnificent cream coloured cabinets and comes fully equipped with all mod cons and a lovely island with seating for 3. The large original door slides right back to open the kitchen into the garden and to the beautifully restored stone cheminee for the BBQ enthusiast.

Three steps up will lead you to a small bar and wine cave, and onwards to the living /dining area.

A hugh open fire place takes centre stage in this room and continues right up to the apex of the house.

Opposite the fireplace you have double doors that open out onto the dining terrace, sun terrace and swimming pool.

Back inside, and tucked away nicely behind double glass doors there are two twin bedrooms, a shower room with twin vanity unit and a spearate WC, making this suitable for two families/parties as it affords extra privacy.

Moving on up to the mezzanine level you have the main bathroom with bath, separate shower and WC, servicing two double bedrooms and 1 twin room. All rooms are furnished simply, brightly but beautifully with most having exposed beams.

The garden has also undergone extensive landscaping. The newly planted lawn overlooks the kidney shaped pool and large sun terrace with patio for al fresco dining. On the other side, there is a well shaded area with swings and trees, ideal for young families. There are two separate entrances securley contained by large gates, and off street parking for 3 or 4 cars.

Great family property

  • 4 of 5

We (5 adults & 6 children) spent a week at Moun Mas in the glorious french August sunshine. The inside of the property is ideal for socialising with its large open-plan groundfloor. Particularly great for the younger children who could escape the heat and play inside during the day without feeling far from everybody else. The downstairs bedrooms and bathroom form an ideal 'annex' for one family. Probably the most comfortable bed I have had in a rented house. The house is particularly well stocked/equipped.....so not as much needed from the first supermarket trip as is the case sometimes (good sized supermarket only a couple of minutes drive away). The kitchen is great and can comfortably accomodate many helping hands. The pool and outdoors were ideal - and the BBQ is particularly impressive. Would certainly stop there again

Super holiday Cournonsec , Fiona, Ireland

  • 5 of 5

We were a group of 5 adults , 3 teens and 2 children under 10 years old. Moun Mas was a terrific base to explore this wonderful region... The house absorbed our party size effortlessly and the pool size was plenty adequate for fun and cooling off whilst not an adult swimming length. The house had most items one needed. Cournonsec was disappointing for us and the children as there was no core village ( albeit a fab boulangerie and Chez Maguy's was a darling delicatessen where Maguy and spouse would advise generously re ingredients!)

However as a location base the house is very well located for the many beaches and fishing villages with a abundance of super restaurants. Sete is amazing, we did a food tour with a lady called Nancy, well worth the time and money. Others in the group did her wine tour in Montpelier and were v pleased.

All in all Fionnuala has a lovely house which is fabulously relaxing and superbly located if you are happy to drive and then there is a wealth of fantastic places to visit and enjoy.

Fantastic holiday home in great location

  • 5 of 5

Prior to booking ‘Moun Mas’ communication with the owner was prompt and very helpful. Arriving at the property, which is really easy to locate, we were greeted by Agnes the caretaker. She was very welcoming and took great care to ensure we knew where everything in the house was and also gave a good insight as to what was on our doorstep.

The house itself is very spacious, it has an open plan kitchen, dining area and lounge with nice high ceilings. We particularly liked the large wooden sliding door that opened up the kitchen to the garden. The swimming pool was brilliant and the garden at the font of the house has a very nice patio area’s for dining and chilling by the pool.

There is much to do in the area, some amazing markets and villages to visit nearby and the coast is a short drive (15 mins) from the house. There is a very good Park and Tram service from Saint Jean de Vedas which is only a short drive from the property and you can be in the heart of Montpellier’s theatre district (Comedie) with all its restaurants and galleries in no time at all, well worth a visit.

We also ventured to Avignon, Nimes (our favourite) and Narbonne on days out, all were amazing places. On your door step, only a few hundred meters walk there is a Boulangerie which makes the best tasting croissants and bread in the region. We also recommend that you visit the Caveau of Croix Saint Julien in the village as the wine is fantastic, well priced and the owners were a delight.

We highly recommend this property and thanks to Fionnuala, we just loved your home in Cournonsec

spacious relaxed beautifully restored

  • 5 of 5

We loved it from the moment we stepped into the open plan kitchen and high ceilinged lounge. The kids immediately got into swim things and jumped into the pool where they spent the first afternoon. We had 6 teenagers/students and a 10 year old who had enough space to lounge around the house pool and garden.

The house is well located for convenience to local baker and the supermarket and to access montpellier lots of lovely towns and villages and the beaches. During our stay we had a day canoeing and a morning canyoning - great fun.

would highly recommend this rental and intend to go back ourselves another year.

Very pleasant stay in a confortable house

  • 5 of 5

Well located (5 minutes from supermarket and typical village), the house is charming and very clean. The garden is pretty, quiet and the swimming pool is perfect for all the family! The caretaker and the owner are very kind and available for any question. We warmly recommend this property!

Beautiful Restoration with relaxing atmosphere

  • 5 of 5

We knew the house was set between two roads before we arrived but the location still took us somewhat by surprise when we pulled up at the beautiful iron gates. That surprise lasted all of ten minutes and we didn't think of it again for the next week! In fact we all commented on how nice it was to be somewhere so rural yet not have to spend ten minutes driving up winding dirt tracks to get to it!

The house is every bit as special as it looks in the photos but you don't really appreciate the layout until you're standing in it. It's all open plan and airy and has a natural flow to it, it worked so well for our group of two families with four biggish children. So often in a rental the kitchen is the last place you want to be, but the kitchen here was the best rental kitchen I've ever encountered, with its sociable island and the side of it that opens up completely onto the garden so you almost feel like you're not indoors at all. It was a pleasure to cook meals in here, which we did, a lot!

The house was also very generously supplied with the things that other rentals can be rather mean about: a jumbo box of dishwasher tablets, mountains of toilet rolls, two huge packets of washing powder, three rolls of cling film etc. Such a nice start to a self-catering holiday.

The bedrooms were all simple and airy, with supremely comfortable Ikea mattresses and bedding, we all slept so well every night. The garden itself is quite ramshackle and messy, but still very charming. We used the huge brick barbecue nearly every night we were there. The pool was great for cooling off in, if a bit too small for a proper swim and there was plenty of seating for everyone and a lovely terrace by the pool where we ate all our evening meals.

The local supermarket was great; really friendly and well-stocked. We ordered a fruits de mer platter for our last night and would highly recommend it; mountains of shellfish and oysters for thirty euros, such great value.

We didn't really venture much into the local village. The two men in our party had a beer in the bar and came back looking a little unsettled, but maybe they just chose a bad moment to visit! We didn't use the boulangerie in the village but the fact there is one within walking distance is a great bonus for croissant lovers.

A perfect holiday home in one of friendliest, most relaxing parts of France, I could not recommend it highly enough.
