About the property

2 bedroomed Gite sleeps 5 plus cot, lies behind electric gates above Honfleur

Gite des Bois, Honfleur, Côte de Grâce - Nestling in the beautiful Côte de Grâce on the heights above Honfleur lies this lovely two-bedroom gîte where you can relax away from it all, secure in the knowledge that your children are safe with plenty of room to play and you still can avail of the numerous charms of the bustling port town of Honfleur so beloved of tourists and artists alike. If you want privacy but not isolation then this is the perfect place to base yourself and explore the numerous attractions which Normandy has to offer. Caen with William the Conquerer's magnificent Castle is a

mere 20 minutes away, Rouen, its Medieval core still intact, a mere hour's drive and the Normandy beaches are all

within reach. If you want to go to Paris, its less than 2 hours on the motorway and so lends itself to a day trip. Nearer to

Honfleur theres Deauville with its racing and chic shopping , Trouville with its fabulous fish market plus a myriad of

delightful Norman towns and villages.

This lovely, well-proportioned, two bedroomed, renovated gate-house is tucked into the trees in the grounds of a beautiful ‘belle-épôque’ villa on the Côte de Grâce.

The grounds are secluded, and there are swings amongst the trees. You can take long walks on quiet country lanes. You are minutes from the lively centre of Honfleur.

There are two food markets a week in Honfleur, and you can prepare fresh food in the well-appointed kitchen. However, there are 140 cafés, bistros, and restaurants in the town - you might revise the self-catering plans.

Nearby is a lovely sandy beach for long walks. A short drive away is Deauville, an hour away are the Normandy Landings beaches, Bayeux, and Monet’s garden at Giverny.

Charming house on a beautiful location

  • 4 of 5

The location is a perfect place to visit honfleur and the region. You can walk into honfleur, although the cottage is just outside the village, up the Hill, right next to the beautiful church. It's a bit hidden, with your own garden, so relax, while the kids are playing around. We didn't manage to get the tv running, but the kids didn't miss it, because of the many games inside and playing Outside.

The cottage has everything in it for a warm or cold day. Outside are two lounge chairs and a table for four to eat outside. In cold days there is a fire Place. As leonora wrote in the description, there's right now no internet yet, waiting for installation by the French Mechanics.

Leonora did help us very Well. Thanks for all the hospitallity, Leonora!

Trouville and deauville are within 20min driving. When you walk 15min downhill you're on the beach of honfleur (uphill count on 30min, with kids)

When you're searching for the cottage, send your GPS to the restaurant next door, the Ferme de la Grande Cour, it's just across the street.

Perfect peaceful retreat

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming spacious property with a wow factor as you arrive,Set in a rural location yet only 10 to 15 minutes walk down a steep hill to Honfleur. Lovely setting in wonderful grounds. Excellent restaurant ( Ferme de la Grand Cour) a couple of minutes walk away if you want to eat nearby. Lack of working TV not a problem for us! Much to see and do in Honfleur and further afield. Facilities worked well. Some comfortable outdoor seating would have been welcome. Get a map before you go and locate property on it. I would recommend this property to a friend seeking a peaceful beautiful location with charm and character.

A Normandy Gem

  • 5 of 5

Four of us stayed at this comfortable gite for five days. It was everything we expected. The location was quiet and within an easy 10 minute walk in beautiful Honfleur. Honfleur is a delightful town with abundant galleries and restaurants located on a beautiful harbor with a picturesque basin in the middle surrounded by beautiful medieval buildings. We are hikers and enjoyed hiking into the countryside. The gite was well-equipped, clean, and we enjoyed the convenience of a clothes wash machine since we had been traveling for three weeks before arriving. The proximity to Caen and a wonderful new museum which opened in 2012 was a special treat. We also motored to the Normandy beaches and took advantage of several historic sites including Omaha Beach. I would highly recommend the Gite des Bois for 2 couples or a family. Leonora was prompt in answering emails. It was an excellent experience.

Nice holiday cottage

  • 4 of 5

We have good experience of Gite des Bois holiday cottage. Location was excellent, nice and peaceful enviroment. Lovely cottage with lot of space for our family (3 persons) with two bedrooms. Clean and well-maintained. We did´t like wall to wall carpets in bedrooms because of heath reasons (astma), but its was not so big problem. We hope that Paul has got digi-tv reseption fixed. Thank´s for Leonora and Paul, have a nice summer in Normandy.

An excellent location for visiting the region.

  • 5 of 5

The house was perfectly located for walking into Honfleur, even though it was a steep hill, but we managed it with no problem. We have two young children and they didn't mind the walk. The church 'le chapelle Notre-Dame de Grace' on the Cote de Grace was lovely and worth listening to the bells! Other places are easy to get to from here, an hours drive to Bayeux, half an hour to Trouville - lovely beach to mention a few palces.

The house had everything we needed, plenty of space, good garden with swings, secure fence/gates, a BBQ. The TV/DVD didn't really work - not a major problem.

The owner, Leonora was brilliant. Very helpful, sent us all of the information we needed and meeting them on the Friday night was a nice touch - very relaxed. We would consider visiting here again due to the location and how lovely Honfleur is.

A real gem

  • 5 of 5

This lovely gite ticked every box for us - secluded in beautiful woodland with non-stop bird watching opportunities yet so very close to the beach and the bustling harbour of Honfleur. We stayed for two weeks and had several outings to nearby places such as Deauville. The gite is very well set out and comfortable. We ate in most of the time and the cooking fascilities were good. In the evening we sat in comfort and normally played cards with a glass of wine.

Our holiday was topped by an invitation on our final night to have drinks with the owners at the chateaux. Leonora and Carl made perfect hosts and absolutely made our holiday with their amazing hospitality.

We where thrilled to have found such a gem and I will certainly be recommending it to friends!!

There are guided tours of the town most days during the summer from the nearby Office de Tourisme. The town has a sizeable public swimming pool and good tennis facilities.

Cultural events run throughout the year. There are two Jazz cafés with regular concerts. Rouen, Caen and LeHavre have Jazz Festivals in the summer. Nearby Deauville has a Festival of American Film every September, and Honfleur hosts a Russian Film Festival in November.

Honfleur is a working fishing port and a regular port of call for leisure sailors from both sides of the Channel. There is always some activity in the harbour, and plenty of cafés from which to observe.

Honfleur doesn't close at the end of 'the season' it is open and interesting all year round.

We are close to the Historic cities of Caen, Rouen and Bayeaux and it is easy to access the battlefields of the 2nd World War as well as a myriad of other attractions including Monet's beautiful garden and the local towns of Lisieux and Pont L'Eveque.
