Lovely quiet cottage in a beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely three night stay at Woodside and our two dogs absolutely loved it too. The cottage is very warm and cosy and the logburner is wonderful. The free logs are a real bonus. Thank you for the shortbread and milk on arrival, they were very gratefully received after an eight hour journey!

Sitting on the benches in the front garden in the afternoon sunshine was simply delightful. There were two tiny rabbits and a stoat running around in the garden (when the dogs were safely inside!) and some lovely birds were singing.

Our dogs loved swimming in the loch across the road and Loch Ness is nearby too, indeed, the little bay at Dores, just behind the pub, is a beautiful place to stop and admire the spectacular scenery.

There is a gorgeous, very dog friendly, coffee shop with a huge logburner and comfy sofas called Cameron’s for coffee and cakes/ breakfast/ lunch. They also stock local artists’ products and they sell some basic provisions from a small farm shop inside the cafe and they have a rescue deer called Blossom in the field by the car park who will happily let you stroke her. This is in Foyers village which is a beautiful 15 minute drive away and Morag and her staff are so friendly and welcoming. We also went to Fort Augustus where the dogs had another swim and then we had delicious fish and chips from the (dog friendly) Boat Inn, overlooking the Caledonian Canal locks. A lovely day.

The cottage is beautifully clean, the newly fitted kitchen is well stocked and easy to use, the double bed would be even better with a new (ideally upgraded to king size!) mattress, the garden is lovely (we kept our dogs on the lead as the low level chicken wire fencing would be too easy and tempting for them to jump over) and the lounge is very very cosy with lovely views from all of the windows. You can see the bird table from the kitchen sink and even from the sofa in the lounge so remember to bring the bird seed (if not, you can buy some at the Foyers Village shop and post office!).

We had such a lovely three night break and we would love to return for a longer trip next time. Thank you for a wonderfully relaxing stay in such a beautiful place.

Fantastic cottage in a stunning location

  • 5 of 5

Woodside is a perfect cottage in a perfect location. Fully equipped with everything we could’ve needed for our short 4 night stay, Woodside was cosy, comfortable and easy to feel totally relaxed in. It is situated in an ideal location to see most of the major spots around Loch Ness and yet secluded enough to feel totally away from it all. The surrounding landscape is stunning, and the drive to the cottage from both directions has some incredible scenery. There is plenty to explore just a short walk or drive away from the cottage. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a relaxed and quiet break.

While there we visited Glen Coe (1.5 hours drive away), Glenmore (1 hour) and Plodda Falls (1.5 hours), and would’ve loved to see much more (meaning we’re going to have to go back!)

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your visit Lesley, and for leaving Woodside so clean and tidy. We are very pleased that you found Woodside was the ideal base for touring Loch Ness and the Highlands. And yes, we agree, , the log burning stove is nice and cosy in the evenings. We've tried to make it a cook's kitchen so it is good to hear you found it well-equipped. Many thanks for your kind words. with best wishes - Turan

Woodside is in the village of Errogie in the unspoilt, sparsely populated South Loch Ness area with many woodland, mountain and loch side walks starting from the front door. Within a few minutes of Woodside there are many other lochs, mountains and forests to explore. The wildlife will also amaze you with much to be spotted in the woodland from the windows or decking at Woodside inclduing dozens of bird species, regular sightings of red and sika deer, pine martens, pheasants, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. Golden eagles have also been seen and the nearby Loch Ruthven is an impressive bird reserve. Dolphin watching is guaranteed from Chanonry Point on the Black Isle, a 40 minute drive away. Woodside is an ideal base for touring everything the Highlands have to offer.

Red squirrels and pine martens populate the nearby Farigaig forest which stretches along south Loch Ness, and covers several thousand acres.
