Fresh baguettes are available from the supermarket bakery or from several bakers in town.

The lavender plateau of Velensole is only a short drive away and for those who want to venture further, both the Alpes of Haute Provence and the resorts of the Côte d'Azur, such as St Tropez, Antibes, Cannes and Nice are easily accessible by car.

The Haut Var area is steeped in history and there are many medieval villages to visit, all telling their own stories. Several of these perched, hilltop villages can be found around us - Aiguines, Tourtour, Moustières, Saint Marie, Moissac Bellevue, Cotignac, Villecroze to name but a few.

There are provençal markets in the region every day. Aups itself has a twice weekly market overflowing with colourful produce. during the winter moths theres is an active truffle market every Thursday

We are surrounded by domains and chateaux all producing their own very drinkable wines. Most of these establishments offer wine tasting. You are not compelled to buy wine in bulk. You can buy a single bottle. Some of the vineyards also have shop selling other local specialities.

As an alternative to self-catering we offer home-made, pre-prepared meals, from finest local ingredients, frozen to be reheated at your convenience at any time during your stay, or a meal of your choice to have ready with accompaniments, on your arrival to make that first evening totally hassle free.

Lovely , well equipped gite in a beautiful area.

  • 4 of 5

The gite was comfortable and well equipped and the pool was very clean and well kept. It was a short walk into Aups which is a lovely small town with several good restaurants and there was a supermarket across the road from the property. The location of the gite is ideal for exploring the area especially the Gorges Du Verdon and many lovely villages. Colin and Sandra were very welcoming hosts, we would recommend this property.

A four star rating

  • 4 of 5

A very nice stay. The owners were attentive and provided good advice and services. The property was clean and well equipped and maintained.the location does not make it a nice walk to the center of the village but it is well situated if you want to visit it and other villages by car. I would definitly recommend this property to family and friends. Michel and Louise -Canada

Owner's Response: Most of our guests walk to and from the town to go to the market, bars and restaurants. It is an easy walk, only 1km, and paved a large part of the way. A car is essential to visit the surrounding countryside, but only necessary to go into town if you have a lot of shopping.

Short but lovely stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed a warm welcome and had a terrific few days in the extremely well equipped apartment. It feels very private, with a small but clean and cool pool. We certainly enjoyed the apartment's BBQ our hosts kindly provided.

We would certainly return, highly recommended.

Le Diamant Noir, Aups in Provence

  • 4 of 5

Would thoroughly recommend a stay at Le Diamant Noir just outside Aups. The gite we stayed in is one of three in large grounds with a lovely pool. A lot of care and attention has gone into furnishing and equipping the gite. But the indoor living space is rather small - though large private terrace with chairs and table makes up for this.

The owners live on site and couldn't be more helpful or welcoming without being intrusive. They gave us great tips about where to visit and where to eat. They even printed out bus timetables for us as we don't drive and relied on public transport to get around.

The gite is a short walk from the centre of Aups, which is a lovely small town. It's a great base from which to vist the Verdun Gorges, for which unfortunately you need a car, but you can get to the Lac de Saint Croix on the bus and canoe down a smaller gorge from the lake.

Owner's Response: We feel that to see the area at its best a car gives more flexibility. However, when this family decided to come withour a car, we did study the local bus services prior to their reservation. We were pleasantly surprised that the local villages were accessible with routes that would suit our visitors. Just to clarify- the two-bedroomed apartment is 43m2. We have just undergone the rigorous inspection procedures laid down by the French tourist authorities and L'Amandier comfortably meets the area to people ratio required for a four star grading.

Great gite, great area

  • 4 of 5

A wonderful relaxing stay at Le Genevrier. We were made very welcome by the Sandra and Colin who are friendly, approachable and professional without being intrusive. The attention to detail in the gite was fantastic. The very thoughtful provisions supplied were over and above what one would normally expect and added to the very homely feel.

Aups is a great base with many local attractions and beautiful scenery, all easily accessible. The super market opposite the gite is very handy and although the gite is close to the road there is no traffic noise to disturb you. The pool is well maintained and set in a picturesque private garden and is lovely to come home to after a day of sightseeing and or adventure.

The coast is an easy drive away as is the magnificence Gorge du Verdon. During our stay the lavender fields where in full bloom and Aups is a great base for driving around the lavender routes. Great markets in Aups and Cotignac and the local town of Tourtour is well worth a visit. The nearby lac de Ste-Croix has a variety of water sports but is big enough to find a quite spot for solitude and swimming. We would highly recommend the gite and surrounding area.
