About the property

2 bedroom, 2 bathroom refurbished detached cottage, mountain views nr. Loch Ness

Available for full weeks or short breaks - flexible arrival/departure days. A log fire, woodland views and a stream running through the garden, all just above Loch Ness make Skoorah a wonderfully relaxing modern cottage from which to witness highland wildlife. Totally refurbished Jan. 2014. The living room/kitchen are upstairs with 1st floor decking balcony at the rear of the cottage which overlooks a woodland reserve. The garden is well fenced for dogs to play safely. There is so much to see and do in this unspoiled, sparsely populated area of Stratherrick just 3 mins drive up the hills above Loch Ness. There are unlimited local forest and hill walks, many Lochs and rivers, rare birds and animals such as peregrine falcons, red kite, ospreys, red squirrel. The cottage is warm and cosy, environmentally friendly, fuelled by green electricity, with 2 bathrooms and 2 WCs and finished to a high standard. Like other regular visitors to Skoorah you too will be saying 'wonderful cosy cottage .... we will return !'

From the moment you arrive you will start feeling relaxed by the beautiful and quiet woodland setting of this cosy modern cottage. With Loch Ness nearby and hills, mountain and lochs in all directions, you can sit and watch the ever-changing scenery, sunsets and wildlife. Two comfortable, well-equipped bedrooms (one twin, one double) also with lovely woodland views, ensure you will sleep well in the peace and quiet of the private countryside location. The well-appointed new kitchen allows you to enjoy preparing the rich variety of local produce available at local Farmers Markets and from local producers. Inverness city is only 16 miles away (25 minute drive) and you have ample car parking space on the long driveway and in two car ports at this detached cottage for any number of vehicles.

The wildlife will also amaze you with dozens of birds visiting the garden bird house, regular sightings of red and sika deer, pine martens, pheasants, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. There are excellent views of the Monadhliath mountains from the windows to the east.

With satellite TV, home entertainment, board games, CDs and DVDs you are ensured of a fun time inside or out. Free fishing is allowed from many local lochs and rivers. Visitors have caught brown trout & salmon. Fort Augustus is 25 minutes away with its stunning locks and good range of restaurants. The nearby village of Foyers (4 miles away) has a post office, general store and cafe for your everyday needs. Skoorah is available all year round and quickly books up, with many families returning each year to Skoorah, with holiday-makers saying 'This lovely cottage has been the perfect place to relax and wonder at the rich wildlife of the Highlands. Woodland or mountain views from every room, we will definitely be back !'

You won't be disappointed.

Amazing, peaceful idyllic cottage

  • 5 of 5

Such a an amazing place, peaceful, tranquil, cosy, a little piece of heaven. We certainly felt the powerful healing of the highlands. Turan has the most beautiful place. We were really lucky with the weather, sitting out in the balcony listening to the birds. Just idyllic. The cottage has everything you could ask, and is ideally situated to explore the wonderful area. Can't wait to go back.

absolutely loved it

  • 5 of 5

Myself and girlfriend fell in love within in minutes of arriving at the property. Hidden away behind a woodland garden, its peaceful, relaxing and it has stunning views without walking 2 steps. We also took our 3 jack Russell's who settled straight away, and I can safely say they loved both the garden and the log fire. The were pooped puppies every night.

The cottage itself was comfortable, cosy and had everything you can think of for you're perfect home away from home experience.

The area is gorgeous, and it is really easy to navigate to the local sight seeing spots and inverness city centre by car. Which made our break even more fantastic.

I'd highly recommend to couples and families alike, so much to explore on the doorstep and afar. Shall definitely be back again and again, just what the doctor ordered.

Thank you for letting us and the pack stay.

Michaela & Jodie xx

Nice and well located cottage

  • 4 of 5

We've spent a week in the cottage, and all has been as expected. The cottage itself is very well located, allowing many visits in the area and in a short car-drive, and the facilities fullfilled our expectations. All what we needed was available, the indications to arrive to the place were clear and so our arrival was easy, and once we arrived we felt at home. We also enjoyed a lot the garden and our childs played a lot, as we had a great luck of having a fantastic weather (with little rain just for an afternoon) and we also had opportunity to do a barbeque!. In resume, a great place to stay to discover the fantastic Higlands.

Clean and comfortable cottage, fantastic location.

  • 4 of 5

Loved the location of this cottage. Beautiful walks from the door and there is a lochside beach 2 minutes away, which our dogs loved and we had to ourselves all week.

The cottage itself is spacious, clean and well equipped. It could possibly do with a few more homely touches..such as curtains at windows instead of just blinds but that is being picky.!!!

Skoorah is in the village of Errogie in the unspoilt, sparsely populated South Loch Ness area with many woodland, mountain and loch side walks starting from the front door. Within a few minutes of Skoorah there are many other lochs, mountains and forests to explore. The wildlife will also amaze you with much to be spotted in the woodland from the windows or decking at Skoorah including dozens of bird species, regular sightings of red and sika deer, pine martens, pheasants, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. Golden eagles have also been seen and the nearby Loch Ruthven is an impressive bird reserve. Dolphin watching is guaranteed from Chanonry Point on the Black Isle, a 40 minute drive away. Skoorah is an ideal base for touring everything the Highlands have to offer.

Red squirrels and pine martens populate the nearby Farigaig forest which stretches along south Loch Ness, and covers several thousand acres.
