Amazing, peaceful idyllic cottage

  • 5 of 5

Such a an amazing place, peaceful, tranquil, cosy, a little piece of heaven. We certainly felt the powerful healing of the highlands. Turan has the most beautiful place. We were really lucky with the weather, sitting out in the balcony listening to the birds. Just idyllic. The cottage has everything you could ask, and is ideally situated to explore the wonderful area. Can't wait to go back.

Very dark and gloomy.

  • 3 of 5

Cottage much larger than expected and VERY warm. Kitchen well equipped. However surrounding trees combined with low energy light bulbs and very dark furniture made this place feel oppressive for me. I could not see to read a book even with all the lights on. The balcony is nice but faces directly onto the woods so no views from there. Very lovely view from one chair in lounge area. Log fire leaked smoke and filled the upstairs despite reading instructions - fine once it got going. The gardens enclosed bit only by a 4/5 strand wire fence and some areas with chicken wire - fortunately my dogs won't go over or through but I know others that would!!

Christmas tree was a nice touch - shame the lights didn't work

We found the beds exceptionally hard and had to buy a mattress topper for the double bed - again personal choice!

I think if you want to be out and about all day and possibly in the summer this cottage would be fine but wasn't for us.

Quiet Cottage miles from Loch Ness

  • 1 of 5

Rather short on character and not upto the standard we expected or have experienced elsewhere.

Owner's Response: Oh Ray and Pauline - one star out of five seems rather harsh for our lovely little modern cottage. It is the first time we have had less than 4 or 5 stars since we started renting out Skoorah in 2006. So you can see why we are rather puzzled. We have received great reviews for over ten years from hundreds of travellers and are about to get a Trip Advisor certificate of excellence. Yes, a modern cottage does not have the same quirkiness of an old highland cottage, (if you wanted "character" you could have booked our vintage forester's cottage on Loch Ness) but you chose modern Skoorah, which is very clean, well-equipped and has a log burning stove with unlimited log supply that so many guests have loved for years. We hope you enjoyed your stay anyway.

Wonderful home in the country

  • 5 of 5

There were four of us and we enjoyed the quiet and relaxing atmosphere of this wonderful country home. Property was very clean and all extras were very appreciated. Laundry facilities were great. Great place to sit and enjoy a glass of wine at the end of the day and talk about the travels of the day!!

Lovely quirky Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Fabulous Cottage home from home. The kitchen has everything and we were able to cook each night and the living area was comfortable. We were a bit disappointed that we couldn't put the log fire on due to the fabulous weather, but then you can't have both! The Cottage was lovely and warm when we arrived at tea time and there was plenty of hot water. We will be taking a fan with us when we return as it was stifling hot two days running and even with all of the windows open, we couldn't cool the place down. Our Labradoodle loved exploring the garden, especially round the side and front as it was long grass at the back of the Cottage and he won't walk anywhere if he can't see what he is walking on (same as me) but my partner did have a good mooch to see how big it was. An abundance of ready chopped logs in the car ports, but my partner couldn't resist using the axe and having a go at chopping one of the tree stumps that had not yet been chopped......did a good job too!

Skoorah is ideal as a base for exploring the surrounding areas though we drove past it a few times before we realised where it was, look for waste and recycling bins at the front on the road and you can't go wrong.

There are plenty of forest walks, we loved the pebble beach on Loch Ness at Dores and then did the forest walk which our Labradoodle George, loved. The waterfall at Foyers is not to be missed and there is a lovely little cafe and shop there (bought a bottle of wine for when we returned which was very reasonable at £6.99). Most walks seem to have public toilets (exceptionally clean) at the start of the walk which was a bonus. The views are absolutely stunning, though we still have a lot to see and will definitely be returning to Skoorah! Loch Farraline is just a short walk down the road, then through a gate into a woodland area. Keep walking through and you will come to the Loch. If you walk to the left and round slightly, you will find a sanded area which children would love.

Everyone is really friendly, especially the locals and if you walked past someone they always said hello. This is our first time in Scotland and we can't wait to return to those stunning mountain and Loch views, I have never seen anywhere as lovely as that.

A big thank you to Turan for letting us hire this lovely Cottage and for the prompt correspondence between us. We Definitely recommend Skoorah for anyone wanting either a chill out break, walking or sightseeing holiday.

Skoorah is in the village of Errogie in the unspoilt, sparsely populated South Loch Ness area with many woodland, mountain and loch side walks starting from the front door. Within a few minutes of Skoorah there are many other lochs, mountains and forests to explore. The wildlife will also amaze you with much to be spotted in the woodland from the windows or decking at Skoorah including dozens of bird species, regular sightings of red and sika deer, pine martens, pheasants, osprey, woodpeckers, red squirrels, bats and at night you are guaranteed to hear the occasional owl. Golden eagles have also been seen and the nearby Loch Ruthven is an impressive bird reserve. Dolphin watching is guaranteed from Chanonry Point on the Black Isle, a 40 minute drive away. Skoorah is an ideal base for touring everything the Highlands have to offer.

Red squirrels and pine martens populate the nearby Farigaig forest which stretches along south Loch Ness, and covers several thousand acres.
