My profound link with Spoleto and this beautiful area goes back to my roots, as my ancestors lived in Umbria since 1500. Pianciano and the estate were bought by my greatgrandfather in 1911 and the property still belongs to our family. I am a civil engineer with a master at the MIT, Boston. Even if i live in Rome and have been working abroad for many years, I like to spend my free time at Pianciano. Horseriding and taking care of the property are the most relaxing activity during holidays.
Francesco Bachetoni purchased this cottage in 2013
The medieval hamlet of Pianciano needed restoration. I decided to give the hamlet a new life! I love to share the pleasure to stay at Pianciano with other people, and to let them know Umbria and Spoleto. We know a lot about historical buildings, art, shops and restaurants, and we can give good advices, even if sometimes we still learn from our guests. When possible, I take our guests for a tour in our family house, Villa Paradiso. Recently restaured, has a frescoed ceiling ballroom, and a collection of paintings and art objects. It gives an idea of Italian taste for art in a private home.
Pianciano is unique for its atmosphere, the peace of the garden, the quietness, and the spectacular view on the olive grow (some 11.000 trees). Enjoy the beauty of the surroundings, the taste of the traditional cooking, the authenticity of an unspoilt location. Relax in the panoramic swimming pool after the hammam. The feeling of being in continuity with the past brings an incredible energy to face the challenges of the future.

As you drive deeper into the valley flanked by steep hills lined with rows of olive trees and the punctuating lilac of the Albero di Giuda, you know you're up for something unique. Tucked away up the hillside, this property is a gem. The owners have restored an old medieval "borghetto" with impeccable taste while remaining true to the original style and the surrounding landscape. Each unit has its own distinct charm, and they are all wonderfully comfortable and fully equipped with all amenities. The location is a perfect blend of privacy and centrality, allowing for easy day trips to neighboring exquisite historic sites, while making for a stay that is as peaceful and private as can be. The area is a culinary paradise, and the locally produced olive oils, meats, truffles, cheeses and the regional cuisine are nothing short of excellent. This is Italy at its best. Claudia, Francesco, Eva and Aziz are wonderful hosts who will go to great lengths to ensure that your experience is something you will look forward to repeating. And sharing, so here we go - now, don't tell anyone.
The last 20 years we have been travelling in Italia and visited lots of places. Pianciano is the best place we've stayed in so far. Everything is great: The houses, the position, the pool, the surroundings, the view, the breeze, the domestic animals and the people. Normally we always go to a new place in Italy every year. But for the first time ever we're returning to the same place next summer. And that's probably our best recommendation of Pianciano.
Just returned from a two-day stay in Il Cipresso, and it was heavenly. Breathtakingly beautiful scenery in a peaceful setting. The house was spacious and spotlessly clean and very nicely furnished and well equipped. Delicious lasagne and a bottle of wine were gifts from our host upon arrival. Loved the two house dogs who came to visit us. All in all, a FABULOUS stay. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a total get away. Great restaurant close by and a charming village. Thank you for making our stay a memorable one. They also sell great olive oil, meats and truffles on site.
We arrived during a snow fall. Didn't expect that in March. But the beauty took our breath away. The villa, the grounds, the people, the dogs were beyond our expectations. This is a perfect setting for a get away. A little isolated but with a car not a problem.
