3 + 1 bed villa sleeps 7 , Murdeira Village, 10 mins from Sal airport
Comfortable two storey villa with three (plus one) bedrooms and two bathrooms both revamped in 2013. A real sun trap as close to the ocean as permitted. Solid wood abounds including teak garden furniture, oiled wood shutters, and all wood interior furniture - a mixture of new and antique. Oak kitchen with varnished oak work surface. It has been furnished and improved as a home for aesthetics, comfort and practicality. Each room is uniquely decorated. Swing in the hammock and listen to the breeze rustling the oleanders and palm, and to the birds twittering. At night the sound of crickets and the ocean under the bright stars give a feeling of peace, far from the madding crowds. The tourist town of Santa Maria is only 10 minutes by motor. The resort was designed by a Cape Verdean architect and the high ceilings and overhangs keep the interior temperature pleasant by natural means. Hotel, restaurant, swimming pool, tennis court, bar, basic grocery store, small beaches and coves for swimming and snorkeling on site.
We holidayed in this villa before we bought. We liked being so close to the ocean, the direct sea view, sunbathing on our own roof terrace, the sounds of the waves and the warmth and cosiness of the outside dining area at night. With windows on three sides, there's lots of light and natural ventilation to enjoy being indoors too. There is a small beach within about 80 metres, for swimming and snorkelling, sunbathing or picnic. You will often be the only people there. The whole complex has security, and you can wander around freely, day or night, and just enjoy the simple things in life at the ocean's edge.
An extensive inventory is available upon request, to make this villa your home for your stay in Sal. Normally there is some food and drink for you to use and replenish so you don't come to a totally empty house. We have shipped full containers of furniture, equipment and decorations which we chose for this house which was already furnished. All windows have insect netting and there are oiled mahogany wood shutters on both floors. Shutters add security as well as keep out the sun's heat. If there are things flying around netting is very useful.
The owners have been letting property in the UK and overseas for over thirty years, and letting a villa in Sal since 2005.

About the Owner
About Mrs Claire Ensor
The owners first came to Sal in 2005 having known about it for many years. We are British but have lived international lives. I was born in Scotland and my husband in India. We spend several winter months in Sal, much of which is spent on improving and maintaining the property. We have a house in London near Queen's Club and spend much of the summer on our boat with our two dogs (rescued from Cape Verde).
Mrs Claire Ensor purchased this villa in 2007
Why Mrs Claire Ensor chose Cape Verde
We stayed in this villa for over two weeks before we bought it. It was the first time we had really enjoyed staying in self catering accommodation because it had a homely feel. During that time we paced out every nook and cranny in Murdeira and decided that this one was in a lovely location and already well equipped.
What makes this villa unique
Where else could you be so close to the sea? Glorious sea views and wonderful sunsets overlooking what we call the mini rock of Gibraltar (Monte Leon). Sound of the waves - sometimes you can feel them! Well laid out with sunny/shady spots and choice of temperatures. Possibility of outdoor living all day long. High ceilings make it cool and airy. Wood shutters control temperature and light whilst giving privacy and security.

Peaceful week in the sunshine
The villa is spacious and pleasant. We sat on the roof a lot and looked at the sea. I went to swim every day in the sandy cove 100 m or so to the south of the villa; even when the waves looked scary in front of the villa, it was very quiet there. We came very well prepared thanks to Claire's instructions, and the wine and mineral water delivery on the day of arrival. The starter pack was very useful too. The little shop which is two streets behind the villa, next building to the hotel, has bread early in the morning (before 8). We bought wifi access from the reception; a warning - the access code is only valid for one device. Wifi signal at the villa is quite weak, not good for (voice) Skype calls for example. We went to make Skype calls and check email (we had to, for work) to the quiet spot just before the pool. Another warning - during our stay, there were several water stoppages, the longest was over 24 hours. There was a good supply of tap water in large containers at the villa (we never ran out, and of course refilled them after each stoppage), but it is worth bringing a washcloth or something and prepare to wash yourself from a basin... or hope that the water company gets its act together.
Absolut empfehlenswert - 2 Daumen hoch
Wonderful, peaceful holiday villa
Just back from an idyllic week on Sal. This villa is the best we have stayed in anywhere - comfortable, spotlessly clean, equipped with everything you could think of. A choice of terraces so you could chase the sun or avoid it and a beautiful view of the sunset; tottering distance from the sea, with beaches to yourself.
We didn't hire a car, just used taxis which was great as Murdeira is only 10 minutes from the airport and 15 minutes from Santa Maria, where on of our number had some very enjoyable scuba diving.
Our taxi driver took us shopping and helped us buy some wonderful fish which we barbequed back at the villa - great bbq and all tools provided.
There is a small, basic shop on the site where we bought bread; also a bar restaurant where we had supper on a couple of evenings - staffed by very friendly, accommodating people.
We met the owner of the villa, who happened to be in the area at the time - couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful, which we had sort of expected as she had arranged basic groceries for our arrival, and excellent pre-arrival information, detailing everything we needed to know.
We would happily recommend this villa to anyone as it is a delight - we had a lovely holiday and have only praise for the set-up.
Our first visit to Cabo Verde incl. scuba diving
Excellent opportunity for those who dislike crowded hotels. Convenient location, both for island tour and to airport. Tranquility and independence granted. We have stayed one week, two families with 3 kids (7 pax.). You feel like at home, all needed facilities are inhouse. Very clean, but you have to watch for ants. don't leave food or waste outdoor. You can meet friendly people around and very simple but good cuisine. Excellent for outdoor activities like scuba diving (diving centre in Santa Maria), wind/kite surfing and biking
A delightful Christmas Holiday
Four of us spent a thoroughly enjoyable week over Christmas at this delightful Villa. We have many happy memories of looking out directly over the peaceful blue waters of the bay, dotted with yachts that had put in to spend the holiday; of our Christmas dinner in the open dining area decorated in a traditional manner; and bargaining for tuna at the nearby fishing village and then proudly carrying it back to grill outdoors. Everything that we needed, beach, swimming pool, bar and shops were conveniently at hand, and we found exploring the small town of Espargos, still largely unspoilt, a delightful way to spend a day.

Activity and Interests
Things to do: Murdeira. Stroll a few yards to swim from cove opposite villa or a little further to a sandy beach.
Walk or jog for miles up the empty shores. Climb Monte Leon. Swim or snorkel in the sea. Fish from the shore. Picnic in an undiscovered spot by the water. Swim in the pool, dine at the water's edge. Relax, watch the sea, listen to the ocean, birds and crickets, gaze at the stars. Unwind, read books, listen to music, sunbathe in the privacy of your own roof terrace or balcony. Wind surf or kite surf in Murdeira Bay. Espargos, see the real Cape Verdes, visit shops, grocery stores, restaurants, market, bars, bank, notary, solicitors. Santa Maria, tourist restaurants, hotels, diving, wind surfing, kite surfing, pubs, banks, hotels. Pedra de Lume, extinct volcano crater with salt lakes like the Dead Sea to bathe and roll in black mud. Burracona, volcanic caves and natural swimming pool. Palmeira a working fishing village. Occasionally whales come into Murdeira Bay. Turtles come to lay their eggs on Murdeira beaches from June onwards. You might even see one when you are snorkelling. Hire a car, a wonderful opportunity to escape off-road - there are many tracks to follow to remote beaches and vantage points, as well as to inland spots where the terrain changes so quickly, it must be a geographer/geologist's paradise. Watch the stars and planets by night due to low light pollution in the remote bay.
Other Activities: Kite surfing, quad biking, cycling, dinghy sailing, music festival
Golf: Nearest golf course is on Sao Vicente Island. It's a strange course, as it's all brown - the greens, the fairways and the roughs.
