About this property

A stone-built Cycladic Farmhouse and small hamlet, spectacular views, sleeps 11

A lovely, romantic and rare stone-built small hamlet, modernised but with its charm and original features untouched, in about 6 acres of hillside with outstanding sea views, a beautiful garden and large plunge pool. The Farmhouse sleeps 7, the Pool Room sleeps 2 ensuite, and the Wine Press also sleeps 2 ensuite and has its own kitchen/living room . The buildings have thick stone walls, original fireplaces, bread ovens and wonderful ceilings.
There is also a bed in the through room leading to the Farmhouse bathroom (see photo with yellow wall behind) which means it is possible to sleep 12 although this can be a squeeze and so we do not suggest it.
The Farmhouse
This is an old house, build of stone with timber beam ceilings. It is very peaceful, the loudest noises tend to be goats on the hillside or our cockerels.
The Farmhouse sleeps 7 over 4 bedrooms. Three of the bedrooms lead off the large living room together with a bathroom and the fourth is just below the house.
The living room is large and airy. The kitchen is also large with an electric cooker and a separate gas hob. It is properly equipped. There are terraces for for outdoor eating and sitting around.
The Pool Room
This sleeps two, ensuite and is also below the house. After the Wine Press it is probably the nicest of the bedrooms.
The Wine Press
This is the oldest building on the property and has amazing ceilings of stone with wooden beams underneath. The lower floor is now the bathroom with large bath, freestanding shower, WC, bidet and marble sink. The wine was pressed where the bath is and the juice flowed down to where the shower is. The upper floor has a bedroom and living room/kitchen with fireplace. The living room has a baked earth floor. There is also a lovely terrace with shade provided by mulberry trees and an outdoor shower behind the house.
We also have an additional cottage on the land, sleeping 2, a few minutes walk away which we rent separately so let me know if you might want to be up to 13/14 in total.

Guest access
The house is surrounded by a large garden with olive and citrus groves on many terraces. There is also a large area of kitchen garden. We have almost all the vegetables, herbs, fruits and nuts of the region and these are available to guests in season for free. We also have chickens and guests are welcome to buy eggs if available (probably not in high summer) and our own olive oil.
There is a large plunge pool, measuring approx 5.5m x3m x 1.5m. This is reasonably toddler safe for young children in that it is above ground and only accessed by steps (see photos).
Other things to note
The property is built on a hillside, so there are steps from the car area down to the main house and from there down to the pool. We do have animals on the property including cats, chickens, goats, two tortoises and a donkey). The cats are fed away from the houses and are not allowed into them. If you or any of your party have a cat or other animal allergy or concern we will be very happy to discuss the situation in more detail with you.

How to get there
From Athens international airport there is a 25 minute taxi or bus ride to Rafina, the port. The ferries to Andros take 1.25 -2 hours, with hydrofoil being faster.
The property is about 15 minutes drive north of Gavrion, where the ferries arrive. It is 200m above sea level,10 mins drive (down a track) to two beautiful beaches, Pyrgos and Vlychada and 5 minutes drive to the nearest, very popular taverna (Kossis)

We are incredibly lucky to have Joseph who is both gardener and general overseer of the property. He lives in the house above the Wine Press and will bring you vegetables and fruits from the garden, depending on the season. He will probably also be the one to meet you off the ferry and show you the way to the house.
Cleaning
Our cleaners come in once a week or more frequently by arrangement.

Beautiful house and garden on wild Andros
We were sad to say good to this unique property - rich in character and history. With wondrous views over one of the wilder corners of unspoilt Andros it provided a superb holiday base for our group of eight. The main house is a cool sanctuary on the hotttest of days and the shaded gardens, planted with a huge variety of beautiful flowers and fruits, and terraces and pool area provide many pretty, cool spaces to eat and hang out. The kids loved the pool, the goats, donkey and the kittens.Adults loved early morning and evening walks to nearby deserted beaches. We also appreciated the delicious tomatoes, melons, aubergines and other produce Joseph the gardener generously left for us - which we cooked along with fish from Gavrio port handily located 20 mins away. The two lovely pool side rooms provide privacy and all spaces are carefully designed and equipped (the kitchen exceptionally so) with striking decorative touches. The house worked incredibly well for all of our group of children, teenagers and adults. All the tips from the owners made fantastic contributions to a wonderful stay.

Gorgeous House
The house was amazing. So unique. Beautiful gardens and terraces with lovely scented flowers. Loved the wildlife as well, all the goats & sheep that used to pass by. Absolutely perfect.

Paradise Found
Rarely does a holiday destination exceed its billing. This did on every level. This 200 year old farmhouse was described as a family home not a holiday villa, which was just what we were looking for. It was comfortable, superbly equipped and beautiful, with huge character. Set in 6 acres of lush, hillside gardens, it provided an idyllic and peaceful haven with many separate areas in which to either soak up the sun by the large plunge pool or sit quietly reading a book in the shade. We elected to hire two small 4x4s to get around the island and these were not only ideal but also essential for getting to and from the two local beaches; one a tiny shingle bay and the other a secluded beach of rough sand, with water that was crystal clear. Both are about 15 minutes drive down from the house on a dirt road, which meant they could be got to easily whilst ensuring that few others ventured there. We stayed in mid-September and the largest numbers of other users that we encountered on any one day was 4! Communication with the owners was excellent and timely and we were met by them at Gavrio, Andros's port, and they waited whilst we collected our hire cars and did an initial shop for our first night, before guiding us to the house and showing us around. Gavrio is about 20 minutes drive away from the house and shopping for supplies throughout the week was easy and great fun. Gavrio also has some excellent and very reasonably priced tavernas, with dinner with drinks working out at about £12 per head. There is also another excellent taverna only about 10 minutes from the house. One other charming and delicious item of note were the fresh vegetables and eggs that were provided by the owners and their resident gardener, Joseph, who lives in a small cottage up the hill. This really was the holiday destination of a lifetime and we couldn't recommend it more highly.

Perfect place for those wanting a simple , peaceful time away from everything.
Lovely old house with the most beautiful sea view imaginable. Andros, unlike many other Greek islands has not been spoiled by the tourist industry and it is not at all busy even in August. The scenery is wild and rugged with a gloriously undeveloped coastline. We did one of the marked walking routes which was beautiful and with not another soul in sight. If you are looking for tranquility and simplicity this is the ideal place.
