We have been married since 1982 and have two adult daughters. We have travelled extensively and have spent many summers in the Dordogne due to my husband's French side. We had been looking on and off for two years for a home to retire to, and as of July 29th, 2014, became the happy owners of La Rosiere. We love the location with it's stunning beauty within a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Dena and Patrick Mackay purchased this barn in 2014
We wanted to be situated in an area that offered a wide range of historical, cultural, sporting and leisure activities, all within a short distance of our property. The magnificent Perigord Noir region, the world-famous Vezere Valley with its unique prehistoric sites and caves, the beautiful Dordogne and Vezere river valleys, the thousand and one dazzling chateaux, the stunning bastide towns and pretty villages, the remarkable local food and wine, the equitable climate, and the friendly people.
2014/2015 is Dena and Patrick's first season at La Rosiere. We are only 4kms from the nearest small town in a ‘protected zone’ at the end of a small but well-maintained road with no passing traffic. Our lovely property has 20 acres of private land consisting of gardens, pastures and a small stream, surrounded by hundreds of acres of woodlands with abundant footpaths and wildlife (deer and boar), birdlife, and flowers. Our three spacious self-catering gites have been lovingly converted from spacious rural farm buildings that reflect our property’s varied and fascinating history – a Tobacco-drying Barn, a Water-Mill and a Hayloft, all with private gardens, ample parking and a 12 x 6m shared and heated pool. The whole property is a secure and adventurous haven for children (and grown-ups!) of all ages.
Absolutely beautiful gite in amazing surroundings. Every need catered for. Lots of things to do as well as watching the wildlife. We saw deer chasing each other in the area just in front of the house. Enjoyed many walks from our front door and it is ideally situated for visiting many of the beautiful castles and towns locally. Went with husband, daughter son in law and 3 grandchildren aged between 1 and 4, everyone of us felt it was an amazing holiday. Would definitely recommend and hope to go back again next year. Thanks Dena.
