Guestbook comments from the owner

We were expecting a lot from your website and friend's recommendations, but we are each more than amazed by the beauty and thoughtfulness you have lovingly put into this special place. We can feel your passion for Italy and life and I feel grateful that we can partake in that and so happy to be sharing it with special friends and family. Thank you! We visited the lovely Castiglione del lago today, made a chicken soup and hosted the whole group for a scrumptious wine dinner tonite which started poolside, then on the patio and moved into the house. Tomorrow we will visit Montepulcianno in the morning, then spend another fabulous afternoon and evening in your lovely Italian home. I am sorry to be going on and on, but I cannot tell you enough how pleased we are. We are all wondering what the crop surrounding your property is. Looks like corn stalks with brown tops and no husks. I am thinking of making some grape jam from some of the trellis grapes if that's OK, as souvenir of this special place. Best wishes, Jo

The farmhouse has a beautiful vine covered pergola which is ideal for al fresco dining. Positioned off the large country kitchen, it is south facing and is next to the pool area. A magnificent oak tree in the north side of the farmhouse offers shade throughout most of the day and is a beautiful spot for relaxation and reading. The guest cottage has a covered portico which can be a cool retreat from the activity of the pool area. We are the last inhabited house on the country lane and so the surroundings are very peaceful. The lane is wonderful for early morning or evening strolls - part of the lane is flanked by matured oak forests in which you are free to roam. The lane is very quiet and apart from the odd tractor it is seldomly used by other vehicles. The farmhouse has a water filtration system - so beautiful clean drinking water is available with negates the need to purchase bottled water.

Villa La Quercia, home from home

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 10 adults and 4 children spent 2 wonderful weeks together at this beautiful villa in August. The villa was perfect for our large group and the setting is stunning, in amongst the olive trees and vineyards, looking out over the rolling countryside and yet close to all amenities needed.

The villa and gardens - The villas, pool and gardens are all immaculately kept. The pizza oven was a major hit and well used! There's loads of room for the children to play, inside and out, shade under trees around the pool and they loved the trampoline. The vine covered pergola makes a wonderful al fresco area to while away the hours over delicious local food and wine!

The area - It's such a stunning area of Italy and the villa is so well situated. We did several day trips to local towns, wineries and eateries, recommended by Ken and Danica in their very helpful guide folder, and it was always so lovely to come home to the peace and privacy of the villa.

Our hosts - Ken and Danica [by email] and Sandra [locally] were so helpful and responded immediately if we needed anything, thank you so much to both. They have thought of so many details within and outside the villa to make their guest's stay both comfortable and fun.

We loved our stay and would thoroughly recommend Villa La Quercia as a perfect home away from home.

Thank you so much Ken and Danica!

Gem in the Umbrian Countryside

  • 5 of 5

Villa la Quercia is the quintessential Umbrian gem. Away, away, tucked away “past the little chapel” down a dusty “white dirt road,” you come to a drive, at the end of which is a gate that opens to a compound of little cottage on the left, then a large farmhouse ahead and beyond the crest of a hill — wow — a swimming pool to die for. The magnificent oaks (le querce) shade one side of the farmhouse and a trellis shelters the dining terrace on the opposite side.

The cottage is cozy and complete. The farmhouse is grand and spacious. We enjoyed cooking in the full-fledged kitchen fitted out with large American style appliances—oven/range, refrigerator/freezer, microwave, and all the little brother appliances—toaster, teakettle, coffee maker. The counter-top gadgets challenge the rural electrical service, so you use them sequentially, not all at once. The same goes for the laundry machines in the attached garage. Minor adaptations afford modern conveniences. Owners have thought of everything. The otherwise invisible maintenance staff promptly materializes when questions arise. The locals are a delight.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are roomy and well appointed. Beds are very comfortable with lovely linens.

Surrounded by tilled fields you’ll hear the chirrup of cicadas, see geckos darting along the foundations and bees fondling the lavender. When the heat shimmers over the hayfields, take refuge in the delicious pool where you can gaze across the hills and cypress trees to Lago Trasimeno on the horizon.

Explore the little nearby villages, especially lovely Castiglione del Lago. Bring your GPS, but be prepared for the darned thing to occasionally get totally flummoxed, so bring the Michelin map book, too. You’re in the countryside!

Perfect countryside villa

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely lovely villa situated perfectly in the Italian countryside with spaciousness all around. We didn’t think the pictures did it justice! Loved being nestled in among the olive trees and vineyards nearby! And, especially liked the centrality of the location in visiting the lake and other nearby villages. Ken and what seems to be a team of local people they know, are most responsive if you need them. Thank you for understanding a traveler’s needs!

Relaxing and Re-energising

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this beautiful villa and there truly is something for everyone in the area. The house is set up as a real home from home with every convenience you could wish for. Our day trips included a number of local markets; Isola Maggiore on Lake Trasimeno where we discovered an Irish lace making museum and a tradition of lace-making which is still alive on the island today; Città della Pieve where we saw some beautiful works of art by a famous renaissance painter, Pietro Vannucci, known as Il Perugino (The Perugian) who was born in the city. My teenage daughter spent a number of hours on a horse-riding trip through vineyards and olive groves which will always be a special memory for her. We would relax in the evening with a glass of some delicious local wine under the stars watching the fireflies play and wake up next morning to the sound of the cuckoo in the distant forest. There's so much to experience locally but more importantly this house is a perfect getaway where you can relax and switch off, unwind and re-energise your heart, mind and body.

Wonderful holiday home

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday staying in this amazing house. From the moment we arrived, the beauty and tranquility of the house and surrounding countryside was just fantastic. The information folder provided is a gold mine of information to help you enjoy your holiday even more. We followed the recommendations for a few restaurants and all were fabulous. The nearest town, castellione di lago on Lake trasimeno was beautiful and we also visited montepulciano and Cortona, gorgeous hill-top towns. We didn't do too many days trips as we spent lots of time chilling out at the house and enjoying the beautiful swimming pool. Just to note, we traveled with our 7 month old baby and our room was set up with a very comfortable cot for her, there was a high chair also and a lovely big tree just beyond the swimming pool provided perfect shade for us on the patio so she could still enjoy sitting at the swimming pool with everyone between her swims.
