I am a semi-retired nurse-midwife still doing international health work part time. My husband is a retired private business owner. We are both volunteering time with Kids Saving the Rainforest in nearby Quepos, a wildlife rescue, rehab & release center that offers tours of the wildlife sanctuary.
Phyllis Clark purchased this house in 2012

We had such a great experience at Barry’s in Manuel Antonio! We came with our 3 children and Barty and his wife immediately made us feel welcome. They helped us book the best tour for zip lining at a discounted price, gave us a ride to the bank, and even drove my daughter and husband to the Dr. when she got sick. It was our first international trip so I’m so grateful we had them to help us along yet still gave us our space to explore the town. They even have a golf cart to rent at half price! The house itself is beautiful, and the pool is perfect especially with iguanas and monkeys coming by for a visit too! There is a bus stop near by if needed as well. We were so sad to have to come home and felt like Barry and his wife were family ... they even brought down their doggies and hedgehog for the kids to play with. What a great experience... we will definitely be back! Thankyou Barry and Phyllis!!!
Nestled in a jungle setting. We loved watching the wildlife from the pool patio. Scarlet macaws flew by daily, a lizard visited daily, white faced monkeys stopped by, numerous birds including a toucan and motmot.
Short walk to the bus. The driveway is very steep.
Barry and Annie, managers who live on site, are generous and helpful in sharing their knowledge of the area. Barry helped us book ou mangrove kayaking tour. I would recommend staying here to my friends and family.
Our stay here at this Manuel Antonio property was during the dry season. Heat/humidity are an issue at this time. Two wall mount AC units in this one bedroom first floor apt. cooled the air, and with the dehumidifier, made escaping from the oppressive heat a frequent occurrence. Barry made sure we learned optimal settings for these, and provided advice for walking to the public bus at the end of this semi paved access road. As we are both mid sixties, and not acclimated to the heat, we did not use this option, but chose to rent a vehicle. The idea of carting groceries from the store at the base of this hill up to the apt., in the heat in a bus was not for us. But having the car made us realize just how well positioned this property is. It was a four mile or so trip into the town of Quepos, to the swanky marina for lunch, or the open air market for fruits, veggies, etc. The other direction on this winding narrow road lead you to the Manuel Antonio National park, and the incredible beaches. We drove to both these but since we had several weeks, we planned on seeing the park later in our stay. Our apt. had an ice maker, gas stove, coffee maker, dishwasher. Since we were there for more than two weeks we planned on cooking many of our meals. I suspect most visitors were not so cooking minded. I suggest that the pans, dishes and cooking tools be increased so folks like us were within reach of basic cooking utensils, grill accessories, and bowls, paper goods.
The shower was a huge tiled affair, with plenty water pressure, and the views from the bedroom were stunning during day light. The sunshine in the morning filled the room for a bright start to the day lounging around the pool, and watching the wildlife like butterflies, birds, and monkeys , iguanas that frequented the surrounding property.
Annie and Barry provided a safe environment. Any equipment or appliance issues were remedied immediately. We had one set keys. And we made sure to lock our rental car wherever we travelled. In addition, long drapes in the living area screened out both the sunshine, and views for outside when dark. The bedroom also had drapes that offered the same . I think this property is ideal for two persons who prefer dining out most times, and who are willing to rent a car, or are very fit for walking the steep inclines in this climate. With them on sight, any issues are handled immediately. The nice pool was a necessity we really enjoyed.
This was a lovely oasis to return to after exploring Quepos and Manuel Antonio Park. Barry was very helpful with suggestions and information and the apartment is very comfortable. We really enjoyed the pool and the sense of privacy the forest provided. Thanks Barry!
Villa Vista Verde was a damp, moldy and gloomy smelly 2 room place. There was not air conditioner, as advertised, only one in bedroom which we were told to keep at a specific temperature, no oven , again as advertised, we were told only to cook on the stove. No barbecue, as advertised, we were told not to use it. The outside patio was covered in sticks and leaves. My wife worried she would fall on the steep ramp from the driveway to the house as the ramp was covered in leaves. The swimming pool was filled with leaves and dirt - unusable. The owner was overbearing insisting on telling us his story while not answering our questions. After viewing Villa Vista Verde, we immediately looked for an acceptable place to stay. Could not stay even one night. Are hoping to get a refund. Know what you are getting into if you book here.
What a deal! This place is perfectly located, beautiful, completely affordable, and comes with its own concierge (Barry!). Our two young daughters (5 and 9) and my husband and I spent three nights there. Wish we had spent a week!
