Great peaceful break near Siena
The location is great, with walks immediately around the house and lots of lovely towns and villages to visit. Even a good go-Karting track! The house itself is brilliant - very well suited for a family, with bathrooms part of or very close to every bedroom, an easy use kitchen, and convenient dining tables both in and out doors. My wife and I particularly valued the delightful Italian cotton sheets(!) and comfortable beds. Finally, and not insignificantly, Barbara (who looks after the property locally), was a font of useful local knowledge and very entertaining with her many stories of events over the years on the estate and in the vicinity. In the house there was a very useful guide for activities in the area. We loved our stay!

Very nice house in beautiful place
Tuscany is beautiful country, and this house is located in very nice part, in Chianti. So this part is green, even there was no rain for 2 months. House is spacious, well maintained. The beds are very comfortable and this place is very quiet, so you will sleep very well. Eleonora is very pleasant and helpful, speeks very well English and is accommodating. We enjoyed our holiday.

King of the castle!
Capella di Pancole is a gem. Tucked away up high above a Chianti wine and olive estate, we really felt that we had escaped. Having spent a week in Florence, it was comfortable and perfect for slowing down and relaxing. The view from the terrace is exquisite and we miss it! We chose to self cater most of the time and the facilities were good, both local supermarkets (10 minutes) have everything you need and more. There are plenty of restaurants in the area if you prefer to eat out. Siena is only half an hour away and we had no difficulty parking. Also recommend San Gimignano and the Chianti sculpture park. It was extremely hot due (heatwave) but the ceiling fans are excellent and stand alone fans were provided. Icing on the cake will be the return of the swimming pool which is scheduled. Communication with the owners Stefan and Esther and their representative Jalissa was efficient and friendly. Perfect for family or group of friends. Advice is to book this villa!

Beautiful property, gardens and pool
Very nice villa, well equipped. Very good 'meet & greet' service by Jalissa. Plenty of shade and sun. Only downside, it is a 15 minute drive, along gravel roads to the nearest shops & restauruants. Overall a very enjoyable stay

Comfortable villa with SHARED POOL
We had a lovely fortnight at Pancole in July 2016. The villa is comfortable and well equipped (but not 'luxurious'). The setting is absolutely beautiful and we spent lots of time sitting on the terrace at the front of the villa just taking in the view and enjoying the wildlife. We were befriended by a local cat and saw foxes, boars, deer and all sorts of insect life during our stay.We had lovely days out in Siena and Florence, did some wine tasting and enjoying an afternoon's cooking lesson (highly recommended). If you are after a remote, get-away-from-it-all retreat, this is it. However, we did feel that the advert on HomeAway was somewhat misleading in a number of respects. Firstly the POOL IS SHARED with 2 other properties and there is no seating around the pool (indeed the information in the villa states that it is for 'swimming and cooling off'). While we were there the people in the neighbouring villa were very unhappy about having to share the pool which led to a number of rather uncomfortable encounters. There is only 1 parasol which, according to the instructions at the villa, belongs to Pancole. However, we did not get to use it once during our 2 weeks. It was all a bit awkward I'm afraid and not what we were expecting or hoping for during our annual holiday. Secondly, the property does not have air conditioning but there are ceiling fans in 2 of the bedrooms. This was not a problem for us even at the end of July. Thirdly the access road really is quite challenging and it takes about 10 minutes from the main road along a dusty, shingle track to reach the villa. We quite enjoyed this aspect but we had a good car and driver. If you arrived with a small car and were not experienced it would be difficult I think. We also had a few issues with the lighting, dishwasher and cooker hood during our stay, all of which were dealt with reasonably quickly but which added to our sense that the properly needed a bit of TLC. Generally we came away feeling like we'd had a great break 'despite' the villa rather than because of it. A lovely comfortable villa in a great location but not great value for money compared to others we have visited.

About the host

Hosted by Esther and Stefan Schwarz

Host profile image
Esther and Stefan are Swiss, who have been visiting Tuscany for over 20 years. They enjoy the history, art, architecture, culture, food and wine that the region offers. When the opportunity arose for them to purchase a property on this famous estate they were very much attracted to its peaceful location, as well as its close proximity to the famous historical towns of Tuscany. They bought the beautifull Villa from David and Karen Conti.

Why they chose this property

The Villa and its surrounding landscape present even better than the photographs show and the glowing reviews of past guests are testimony for its special appeal.

The Villa has been recently restored with the finest Tuscan materials and provides superior accommodation and facilities.

Villa La Cappella is part of Villa d'Arceno. The antique splendor is still present in every farmhouse and traces of the ancient crafts are to be seen in not much known corners: what strikes today is the splendid harmony of the vines that follow the dancing movements of the hills and encircle with elegance the farmhouses.
Unpaved roads and footpaths wind among woods of holm-oaks and amazing alleys with cypress trees: who lives in these places breathes history and finds again peace and harmony, thanks to a respected nature. You'll find more information on arceno.it/en/history/

With your holidays at Villa La Cappella you support YMCAs (Founded in 1844 by George Willimas in London) as a non-profit organisation. Esther & Stefan invest there payments into youth.

What makes this property unique

Luxury private accommodation in a stunning location situated in and close to some of the most beautiful countryside (Crete Senesi) and famous towns in the world. The owners have a vast knowledge of the area and all its wonderful amenities. They also have good personal connections with local restaurants and vineyards. Esther & Stefan can advise guests important travelling considerations prior to or during their stay. They are available to pass on their knowledge if so requested. they can refer you to world class tuscan chefs for cooking lessons and/or an evening meal at the Villa. They can recommend interesting excursions to galleries, museums, markets, shops, vineyards and famous attractions in order to make your time more enjoyable. The Villa and property has received glowing reviews from past guests.
