Private villa with swimming pool and sea view 2km from sea

Overview

Property

Updated: 18-Nov-2016
3 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 5

The villa is in 2900 sq.m of land (c 3/4 acre) comprising Mediterranean garden and olive groves, with its own private swimming pool (open mid May - early October), and a roof terrace with a wide view of the Adriatic Sea, 2 km away. It is in open countryside but only 4km from the interesting small town of Carovigno. It has a comfortable living and dining room with air-conditioning / central heating. The villa was newly fitted in 2007/8, with new bathrooms and a new fitted kitchen, and three double bedrooms, one with en suite shower room. All the furniture and equipment are new and well appointed and the villa is redecorated each season.

Outside, there are two large covered terraces, a pool terrace, a small trullo and a pizza oven. Olive trees, pears, almonds, pomegranates, grapes, figs, prickly pears, lemons, artichokes,. and many decorative plants, grow in the garden, plus trees, flowers and shrubs. Apart from the obvious attractions like the beaches and the villa's private pool, we can also offer horse-riding lessons via local friends. For more information, please see our own web site www.villa-puglia.com.

More information about what to see and do: Puglia has so much to see and do, and is still largely unknown to non-Italians. Of course, in summer, the beaches are the biggest draw, but there are numerous interesting small towns and villages, as well as the wonderful Baroque city of Lecce, all within an hour's drive or less from this villa. Some of the architectural features, such as the 'trulli' houses, are unique to the local area. There are also natural features close by, such as caves and gorges, and the marine and nature reserve of Torre Guaceto, and many churches and grottoes and sites of archaeological interest. For children, there is the Zoo Safari Park, and other attractions such as water parks, and on the coast there are facilities for water sports and other activities. The owners have compiled information which is available in the villa on some of the many attractions, and have also created a web site with more information on-line. Click on the link near bottom of listing, or email for details of the owners' web site.

Activities: Golf is available nearby (see owners' web site) and horse riding (experienced riders only). Walking and other activites such as bird-watching and snorkeling are available at Torre Guaceto, with possibilities for sailing and boat trips further along the coast. Cycle rental is also possible. In September, visit the wineries to experience the 'Welcome to the Harvest' day, and in the olive harvest time, make a visit to one of the olive pressing establishments. During the summer and at Easter and Christmas time, there are numerous festivals in local towns and at the coast.

About the Owner

Hi, I'm Sheila. This is our private holiday villa that we let out when we are not using it ourselves. It's not part of a holiday complex, and the pool is for the exclusive use of people staying in the villa. We bought it for ourselves and our family to enjoy, but we often like to use it very much out of the main holiday seasons, so we let it in order that other people can enjoy it as much as we do. We have several repeat customers, and all of our customers will tell you how we try to be as helpful as possible with information on the local area etc. We also try to make sure that guests will be delighted. We turn down (and offer alternative suggestions to) people for whom we feel our villa is not the most suitable option. Many owners will take all the bookings they can get, whether or not it will be the right thing for the customers. So we make sure we have a conversation with people before accepting their booking, whether by email or phone. As a result we get very good reviews, because it is our aim to make sure people have chosen well and know exactly what they are getting.

Thank you very much, we had a wonderful time as always, our third visit. Too short. As everything was perfect, there is little to feed back. This visit, it was very hot indeed. Thanks again and hopefully next year we can come again

Peaceful but close to beaches, and places to see.

  • 5 of 5

Our second visit. We had a wonderful week. Totally relaxing and stress free. Our flights were straightforward and on time. We phoned the housekeeper after picking up the hire car, and arrived about 25 minutes later to find Silvana waiting to welcome us and the villa and gardens looking just as we remembered them. The lavender around the pool was in full bloom, the agapanthus were flowering, the weather was perfect. Silvana had made a brilliant job of the shopping and it was all put away for us. Everything in the villa was as we would wish it to be.

The villa owners are so helpful and the information/maps of the local area, places to visit, sights to see, beaches, restaurants are excellent. Although, with the villa so comfortable, the grounds so lovely and peaceful, and a pool warm enough even for me to get in, it was difficult to tear ourselves away.

Delightful part of Italy

  • 5 of 5

Booked this property as we were attending a wedding in Lecce and needed a holiday before the 3 day celebrations!

From the moment I booked I received nothing but help from the owner Sheila. She is an extremely organised and helpful owner who leaves nothing to chance. Her information she sent was the best I have received in all the holiday rentals I have booked. So helpful even down to clear instructions and photos of how to reach villa from airport.

The property itself was well managed and clean. We were met by Sarah, a delightful young lady who showed us round and had even shopped for us, great idea when you are tired from travelling and just want to unpack and relax.

The villa is well stocked, has lots of choice for outdoor living and a great pool. The view from the roof terrace was stunning, even managed to capture 2 firework displays in the distance.Bonus was having 2 bathrooms which was great for 2 couples sharing.

Masses of information available in villa for places to eat, see and where best to shop. Visited Ostuni, Allberello and other lovely places Caravigno market on a Tuesday was perfect, suitcase contained a few pairs of new shoes on the way home!

Our first visit to Puglia and we were all so impressed with the way of life and friendliness of the people. Wedding was an experience and lifetime memories for us. Visited Brindisi on way home and thought it was beautiful too.

Thankyou Sheila a great place for a holiday

Our stay at Villa Siena

  • 5 of 5

Villa Siena certainly lived up to our expectations. This well-appointed secluded villa is surrounded by an extensive garden of fruit and olive trees with a feature swimming pool set amid an array of scented shrubs.

We arrived at the villa to be greeted by amiable caretaker Antonio and his wife Angela, who handed us the keys along with the welcome food pack, and talked us through the niceties of the villa and local area. As promised by owners Sheila and Colin Robson, the single-level three bedroom house was modern, comfortable and clean. The open-plan communal area fronted a neat well-equipped kitchen that extended to a large shady terrace overlooking the garden and pool.

Villa Siena is perfectly positioned for daytrips to a wonderful collection of Puglia sights and, at two kilometres from the sea, and a short drive along the coast to some choice beaches, it’s easy to go for a dip and be back in time for an aperitif. There are a number of restaurants close at hand on the seaside. Our choice, not least because of its exterior terrace overlooking the sea, was Lido Tiziana seafood Restaurant. Nicely prepared local pasta with seafood and fish dishes are served up with a choice of local wines or beer – be careful when choosing Catch of the Day, the dishes are tasty but expensive.

Each of the four distinctive sights we chose to visit were within easy reach of the villa: Lecce, a fantastical baroque city, is beyond Brindisi to the southeast, while in the opposite direction, perched on the vertiginous cliffs near Bari is dramatic Polignano a Mare. Inland, the utterly strange conical roofed village of Alberobello would make any Smurf proud to call home and neighbouring Locorotondo, true to its boast, is a high contender to take the prize for “Italy’s prettiest village”.

Superb villa in idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

We were immensely impressed with the lengths that the owners have gone to to provide information, caveats and advice on the local area. We have been renting villas in Europe for many years and have never seen any owner go to so much trouble to ensure that their guests have all the details available to smooth their introduction to the locale.

The villa was great, fully kitted, clean and comfortable and the grounds were a joy to amble around. It's unusual to find a villa that exceeds expectations and we were delighted with what we found. Antonio, Sarah and Andreas were everything one could wish for in terms of friendliness and efficiency – full marks to them.

We can’t thank you enough for all of your help and guidance and hope that we can return in the future.

Lovely property!

  • 5 of 5

Great property. Clean, comfortable, quiet. `directions and instructions were all very clear from the owner so there were no unexpected surprises. Local town of Carovignio and further afield Locorotundo well worth visiting. Local beaches were a bit disappointing but made up for by the pool at the villa and the beautiful views.

In the heart of Puglia

  • 5 of 5

The villa is very comfortable and very well equipped, with every eventuality taken care of in the pre stay instructions and details of the workings of everything in the villa. The local manager Silvana is a lovely lady, totally enthusiastic with ideas of things to do in the area, and she is happy to be on call for any problems. The pool is a good size and set in a fabulous garden. The grounds of the villa are huge, so it is very private, totally fenced all round, it also has a large terrace area for eating and barbequeing. We went out of season and spent most days sightseeing in the area There are so many wonderful old towns within easy reach, Lecce, Ostuni, Martina Franca, Alberobello, Polignano and of course Caravigno just up the road. Just be sure if you pop into Caravigno you remember the way back, it's very easy to get lost in Southern Italy, the signage is not good and the countryside all looks very similar, olive trees everywhere. The olive oil is the best in all of Italy and the wines are stupendous, just the house wine brought in a jug in most restaurants is fabulous and just to add to the charm the prices are unbelievably cheap. The restaurant which stood out for us was La Cantina in Alberobello which we came upon by chance, but since being there have read all the rave reviews on trip advisor ('best Italian food ever', 'great chef, great food'). However whereever we went to a pizza place or a restaurant the food was of a very high standard, the service so friendly in true Italian style, and if you have the antipasto you really don't need anything else! Puglia and Villa Siena are a great holiday destination for a holiday in the sun, foodie heaven or a sightseeing extravagansa.

Owner's Response: It just goes to show that Puglia is not just for the summer, but can be enjoyed in so many different ways as different times of year. Glad you enjoyed it.

Location

From the Owner

When we first saw Villa Siena we were charmed. We really wanted a property with a sea view, and lots of outside space. It's cosy inside, but most of the time we live outside, even early and late in the season. The villa has large terraces all around, so no matter which way the wind is blowing (if it's blowing!), there will always be a sheltered place to sit. The pool and its terrace are visible from the villa terrace, and from the window in the lounge. We can see the sea from inside the house, and we can tell from its colour (usually bright blue!) and whether there are white horses, what sort of day it's going to be - should we head for the beach, stay by the pool, or perhaps go and do some sightseeing?

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Brindisi at 19 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Brindisi at 20 Kilometres Nearest Train : Carovigno at 4 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : SS379 at 1 Kilometres Nearest Beach : at 2 Kilometres Car: necessary

The villa is located 2 km from the sea, in the countryside between Carovigno and the coastal resort of Specchiolla, 20 minutes from Brindisi airport and 65 minutes from Bari. Carovigno is the last town on the edge of Le Murge - the upland plains of Puglia - before the land gradually falls in height to meet the coastal plain of Brindisi. Close by are various beach resorts, small ports, and the internationally protected nature reserve of Torre Guaceto. Carovigno itself is an historic town, rich in folkloric festivals. For a small town (circa 14,000 inhabitants) it is surprisingly lively, and a real centre for gastronomy, with numerous good restaurants and shops, a market on Tuesday mornings, and an internet café. It is also within a short drive or cycle ride of several fine beaches, and well-situated for many places of interest, such as Alberobello, Lecce, Martina Franca, Ostuni, and Castellana Caves. Other Activities: kite surfing, sightseeing, visiting markets, folklore festivals, horse-riding

Notes:

  • Perfect for summer outdoor living, with large covered terraces surrounding the villa, where seating is provided for outdoor dining, or just relaxing. Laze by the pool in summer, or sit on the roof terrace with a cool drink in the evening, gazing at the blue Adriatic, any time of the year. In the owners' view this could be suitable for families; please note that the pool area is unguarded, and parts of the garden are rocky. There is a hip-height wall around the roof terrace. Thus children, especially young ones, would need careful supervision. All the accommodation is on one level but there is a small step up to the terrace around the house of about 4.5 in. (12 cms.) The roof terrace would be inaccessible to anyone with mobility problems but the lower terraces are only one small step down from villa. Mobile phone reception is good. Internet access is available in the internet cafe in the town. Guests are welcome to help themselves to seasonal produce e.g. grapes, figs, almonds etc
