Stylish detached cottage with wifi

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Nov-2016
Two bedroomed cottage to sleep 4-6

Doon Cottage is a lovely comfortable home. It has an open fire, stripped wood finishes and an enclosed well-tended south facing garden at the front of the cottage. Both the village shop & pub are within 500 yards. Very pleasantly located on the edge of Twynholm village, close to the lovely Solway coastline and bounded by fields with views east to the hills.

Completely renovated and tastefully furnished, in keeping with the style and character of the cottage. We frequently use the cottage ourselves, which means it is very well equipped and has many comfortable touches throughout.

On the Ground floor there is a large open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room and a lounge with double sofa bed. On the First floor we have 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 twin. There is a large secure outhouse attached which is suitable for storing bikes.

All fuel, power & bed linen included. Children are very welcome. High chair provided. Sorry no pets. No smoking. There is parking for 3 cars.

Doon Cottage is 3.5 miles from the historic fishing town of Kirkcudbright which has several coffee shops, restaurants and artists’ galleries. Castle Douglas and Gatehouse of Fleet are 8 and 5 miles away respectively and both offer an alternative range of shops and recreational facilities.

Didn't want to leave!

  • 5 of 5

The four of us had a lovely week staying at Doon Cottage, such a cosy, warm house with everything you need. Comfy beds, good cooking facilities and an open fire - bliss! It was easy to find and a good base for exploring the surrounding areas. We have 2 young children who especially loved Cream o Galloway (you MUST try the ice-cream!) and the Cocoa Bean Factory. Lovely shops in Kircudbright and Castle Douglas, lots of lovely tea rooms, beaches and walks. Great communication from Steve the owner who was very accommodating. Our first time visiting the region but won't be the last! Thanks Steve!

Owner's Response: Thanks that’s lovely of you to say so. Very glad you had great time and particularly enjoyed Cream O' Galloway. It's great isn't it? Thanks too for leaving the house in such an immaculate condition – very much appreciated.

Stylish and very well equipped scottish cottage

  • 5 of 5

Stayed three nights in the cottage with five people. Found it comfortable and very well equipped, even though we did not use much of it as we spent most of the time out. Nice and well maintained garden.

Would definitely recommend it and would come back.

Lovely Holiday Home from Home

  • 5 of 5

Doon Cottage is a lovely comfortable holiday home. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay last week. Weather was great which always helps! Easy to find, good parking, great garden. Eveything you need for a relaxing stay. Easy distance to lots of activities, our son's favourite being Laggan Outdoor Activity Centre 10mins away by car! Will definitely book to stay at Doon Cottage again. Many thanks to Steven with his quick response when booking all done with ease!

Comfy well equipped cottage

  • 5 of 5

Clean, comfy well equipped cottage with everything you could possibly need and plenty of space. We felt well looked after. Pretty garden also. You do need a car although lots to do in the surrounding area and nearby Kirkudbright's Polar Bites is well worth a visit. Would recommend the property to family and friends.

Don't hesitate to book this great cottage

  • 5 of 5

Have just returned from a weeks stay in this fantastic holiday cottage - we would easily rate as 5 star, was uniquely a real home from home. Have stayed in a number of holiday let's over the years both in the UK and abroad and this is without doubt our favourite! Not the usual uniform / impersonal let that has just enough cups, plates and cutlery - this felt more like being in a real home. Spacious, beautifully decorated and comfortably furnished with absolutely everything you could need.

Great communication with the owner who was very helpful and accommodating - even arranging for an item we left behind to be sent on to us.

The local area is lovely - we can recommend Dhoon beach, Laggan outdoor centre and the Galloway Forrest.

We usually like to try different places but this is one we're planning on returning to!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much - you are very welcome back any time! We do use the cottage a lot ourselves and it's great to know that you can see it as a home too. There's nothing worse than not having enough crockery for the dishwasher is there? We too have stayed in plenty places where we've had to take dirty dishes out of the washer to wash them by hand so that they can be used! Very glad you found the area lovely too, especially as the weather was none too kind for you.

This is how the others should be doing it......

  • 5 of 5

Perfect retreat with easy access (car probably required, although the bus stop is only a few yards from the cottage) to a multitude of indoor and outdoor entertainment. We almost wished for rainy days so that we could stay in and be cosy next to the fire! Very generously equipped, furnished and decorated. Compared to the usual run-of-the-mill, meagrely furnished rental places, this stands out by a mile.

* Accurately described

* Clean

* Well maintained

* Superb customer service

* Would (and will) recommend to friends and relatives

* Lovely towns in easy reach.

* Wonderful beaches and walks

* Great local produce (try the smoked Venison sausages from the smokehouse)

The D&G coast is so 'frilly' that there is no long distance path to really stretch you, but equally that makes the shoreline so varied and worth driving along to discover the hidden beaches - especially the Cockle shell beaches at Kippford and the marvellous stones at the beach by St Ninian's cave.

We will be back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your very generous review. It's lovely to know that you think we are getting things right. We always hope that Doon feels more like a home-from-home than a holiday cottage. Very glad too that the autumn weather didn't deter you from exploring and finding many of Dumfries & Galloway's hidden treasures. You are both very welcome back. Best wishes
