About this property

Twazabarn - near the Lake District and Dales National Parks

Please contact owner for reduced winter rates.
Twazabarn is a delightful, and indeed individual, barn conversion offering well appointed accommodation in a part-reverse style which includes - downstairs: large kitchen & separate 6 seat dining area, housing dishwasher, fridge , 5-ring gas and triple electric Rangemaster oven housed in feature stone alcove, master bedroom with kingsize bed, bathroom with curved double shower cubicle, large double-end bath and marble vanity stand, and lobby containing a broad selection of books and maps. Upstairs you will find a light and airy, full-height lounge with triple aspect windows and woodburning stove and two further bedrooms together with an upstairs toilet and wash facility. The barn has original exposed purlins adding individual character to this very unusual stone barn. The barn sleeps six in three bedrooms, one with kingsize bed, one with a double bed, and the third with two single beds. Youngsters accepted if over seven years of age. All linen and towels are provided, along with a starter basket of logs for the log burner. The barn has free wifi. Discounts available for one couple/one bedroom occupancy - please ask.

There is parking at the property only for two cars. Secure bike storage can be offered on site by prior arrangement. There is an outdoor seating area. There may be an additional charge for a well-behaved small dog - by prior arrangement only (sorry no puppies, cats or kittens). Your dog should not be (a) left alone in the property (b) allowed on sofas or soft furnishings or (c) given access to the bedrooms and there should be no evidence your dog has been at the property when you depart.

Changeover day is Saturday although we may be able to offer some flexibility on changeover day. If you are interested in booking the barn, please send an enquiry and we will respond and confirm availability to you. Short breaks are available. The barn is available from 4pm on the day of arrival and I would ask that you vacate the property by 10am on the day of departure.

The barn is lovingly cared for and maintained and it is expected that guests will treat the property and contents with respect and leave it clean and tidy. Usually, I will be on hand to welcome you to the property, to run through the basics and to help with the booking of local restaurants if required or to offer advice on local walks or cycle routes in the area.

Twazabarn is situated in Appleby in Westmorland with views of the Lake District in a quiet cul de sac overlooking Appleby Castle, and only 100 metres from a local, 17th century, real cask ale public house/popular restaurant serving good quality food.

Appleby in Westmorland is a very attractive North Pennine town with all modern amenities including a swimming pool, cricket ground, bowling green, golf course and a good selection of traditional shops selling local produce as well as good pubs serving real ales and great food.

In Appleby, you can board the Settle-Carlisle Railway which was the last great mainline railway to be built in this country. Consisting of 72 miles of track with 17 major viaducts (including the famous one at Ribblehead) spanning the ravines and 14 tunnels and is advertised as the most picturesque route to Scotland from England.

A short walk from Appleby into the Pennines you can see High Cup Nick - the famous nick, a deep chasm on the Pennine fellside and is a dramatic geological formation at the top of High Cup Gill overlooking the best glaciated valley in Northern England. At the head of this perfectly formed U-shaped Valley is one of the highlights of the Pennine Way, described by Wainwright as an ‘unforgettable sight’, a ‘natural wonder’. Here you can see the grey-blue dolerite crags which also form High Force and Cauldron Snout.

Appleby is perfectly situated for exploring the fells of the North Pennines, Yorkshire dales, Lake district, or the green valleys of the River Eden either by cycle or on foot.

The Eden Valley is surprisingly little known, but those discovering it, visit time and again. It lies between the North Pennines, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the Lake District. To the south is the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and to the North lie Carlisle and Hadrian’s Wall.

Hadrian’s Wall is the most important monument built by the Romans in Britain. It stretches seventy-three miles from Wallsend near Newcastle, across the neck of England to the Solway in North West Cumbria, and stands today as a reminder of the past glories of one of the world’s greatest empires.

The River Eden is entirely Cumbrian and is one of the few large rivers in England that flows northwards. The source of the river is on the high limestone fells near the North Yorkshire border and makes its way across eastern Cumbria, with the hills of the North Pennines to the East, and the fells of the Lake District to the west, to Carlisle. The river flows through Appleby, famous for its annual Appleby Horse Fair.

Lovely Property. Great Location to Explore the Area
Visited for 4 nights in July 23 with my brothers to do some of the walks in the area. The property was excellent. Very clean and comfortable with everything we needed to self cater and Carole was very helpful in the booking process, on arrival and during our stay. We would certainly recommend the property.

Why they chose this property

Twazabarn, quirky by name and by character, really is a home away from home and a great place to relax, unwind and enjoy the area. It offers old world charm, modern facilities wrapped up in a blanket of happiness.

What makes this property unique

I fell in love with the property and I hope you do too. Many of my guests have rated it a 5* stay. Quotes from the visitors' book say it all, including "brilliant accommodation and super hospitality", "wonderful break in beautiful cottage" and "perfect holiday cottage" so as you can see, my view has been shared by many already. There are enjoyable walks from the door or within a short drive. Quiet cycle ways which will take you miles with quick access to the Pennines, Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. Added to which, on the famous Settle to Carlisle rail link, Appleby suddenly becomes the perfect spot from which to base your holiday. You'll be assured of a Cumbrian warm welcome.
