About this property

Elegant, Artistic 18th Century Cotswold Country Home with stunning woodland view

*Staycations welcome*

A special place for a friends or family gathering. Music is such a part of this house that it seems to sing all by itself, and the garden is magical.

Down a potholed farm track in the middle of nowhere (well, Stroud is ten minutes down the hill), surrounded by stunning woodland on the top of the escarpment, is a 18th-century weavers' cottage that's grown — and grown! — over the years. Now it is a big, beautiful and open-but-cosy family home. Tiered gardens, ponds, shrubberies, squirrels, dragonflies and ten acres of woodland surround it, and you can help yourselves to anything that is growing. In the sitting room are antiques, rugs and easy sofas, books, pictures and objets d'art. Stairs creek, doorways lop, and the kitchen is Shaker in style, with a handsome farmhouse table and a huge range for toasting your toes; walk The Cotswolds, then recover on a floral sofa. For cooks: every drawer is full of utensils and there's an abundance of pots and pans. Bedrooms are in two wings; beds, bedding and views are to die for. There are four double beds, two single beds and one sofa bed which folds out into a double. The sofa bed is in the same room as one of the double beds, but it is the largest bedroom in the house and is consequently still very spacious. The owner, who lives in the cottage just above, is most happy for children to stay but note, there are stairs to tumble down and steps to fall up! One for musicians, artists, family, friends…

A splendid holiday
The listing is very accurate and it is set in a superb location. It is very high up and means that trips out need to be carefully planned to avoid lots of negotiating country lanes some of which are very steep.

Amazing place. Amazing hosts.
Our little holiday was perfect. A secluded and quiet property with great views, yet close to bigger shops in Stroud and cute villages like Nailsworth. The house is very relaxing, great open fire and plenty of nooks to disappear to and read and lots of art to peruse. Our daughter (5) had great fund exploring the house and the surrounding forest (as she called it!). Jacqueline and Daniel are fantastic hosts, very responsive communication before and during our stay. They were very understanding and flexible as the government rules changed due to Covid. The welcome pack on arrival was a nice touch! Can't recommend this place enough. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

Lovely unique stay
The house is great and exactly as on the listing, Jacqueline was a brilliant host with great communication and easily available if we had an issue but gave us absolute privacy for the rest of the stay. The towels, products and welcome basket made it feel like a nice hotel.

A great place for a short break
The property was full of character, spacious and warm. The art work displayed throughout the house was pleasing and the kitchen was well equipped. The property had a very welcoming feel and the bottle of wine, biscuits, tea, coffee and basic condiments were a nice touch. The garden and surroundings were very peaceful and we were able to enjoy the September sun from the terrace as well as the two conservatories. Any one with mobility issues may find the changes of levels within ground floor of the house and the garden slightly challenging. Overall a lovely place to stay.
