About this property

Hollyhock, Houghton, Norfolk

In the middle of nowhere but not far from anywhere, Hollyhock is a very comfortable and bright eco-friendly cottage, offering the opportunity to enjoy the tranquillity of rural Norfolk.

Hollyhock is all about location. Many people come to Norfolk to take a breather and enjoy the peace and quiet, and there's nowhere better than Houghton for that. No sound of traffic, dark skies for stargazing, wildlife on your doorstep, empty country lanes for bike rides, miles of local footpaths - sounds blissful. Yet you're still not far from a handful of good village pubs, several nature reserves and tourist attractions, and the north and west coasts are only fifteen minutes away.

Completely private, but semi-detached from Foxglove (sleeping 2), this charming wooden cottage is spacious and welcoming and has an amazing deck with stunning views for a sundowner. With a bright duel aspect living area, bespoke well equipped kitchen, one double and two single bedrooms all on one level, Hollyhock is a convenient and adaptable cottage for families, couples and friends - and dogs are welcome too (and even horses!).

The location must be seen to be appreciated. With Houghton Hall and deer park as your neighbours you will certainly feel rather special here. Rub shoulders with royalty as you cycle the empty country lanes to Sandringham Estate via Anmer, home to the Prince and Princess of Wales. The convenient market town of Fakenham has the best street market and auction rooms around, or maybe you fancy a day at the races. Head to Bircham Windmill, café, shops and children's farm, sniff out the Norfolk Lavender fields, or walk the dog along the Peddars Way path - so many choices around here.

8/10 Good

A fabulous stay
Be prepared for peace and quiet, this cottage is very much in the country lanes, which for us, was perfect. Surrounded by countryside, delighted by a warm welcome from Ed, a welcome pack on arrival and a clean, roomy cottage. If you follow the walking routes you are just a mile from a lovely pub and a 25 minute drive to beautiful places such as Wells Next the Sea. The cottage location is a perfect spot for exploring, if you are happy to drive 20-30 mins. Our only slight moan would be to mention the noisy boiler (particularly when it comes on early morning) and blunt kitchen knives (but that's easily remedied). Highly recommended

Hollyhock at Houghton
Stayed here several times and absolutely love the location in amongst the countryside. No traffic, dark starry night skies and lots of wildlife. Houghton Hall and its stunning gardens are on your doorstep. My husband and I always think of Hollyhock when we come to Norfolk and we have stayed in many different cottages over the years and still come back to this one in this area. It is clean, cosy and comfortable - what more can you ask.

My week in Hollyhock
I stay in Norfolk a couple of times a year visiting family and would have no hesitation in booking Hollyhock again. Everywhere was clean and fresh with all the facilities you could need. Mostly I enjoyed the peace and quiet sat out in the evenings overlooking the countryside.
