Casale il Saùco is a stunning country house situated in a rural area of Santa Maria di Castellabate on the beautiful and unspoilt Cilento Coast of the Campania region. The stone country house which dates back to 1884, has been lovingly restored and converted into 7 comfortable apartments sleeping 2-8. Each apartment has its own private entrance and patio or terrace. Immersed in the countryside with views over the Trezene hills on one side and towards the sea on the other it is ideally positioned to enjoy the peace and quite of its location whilst in just a 5 minute drive one can reach the sandy beaches and the characteristic village centre with its shops, bars and restaurants.
The country house has been restored using the original stone facade and layout with heavy wooden doors and window fixtures, terracotta flooring throughout and wooden beams in some parts of the building,
The stylish interiors offer a combination of modern facilities with traditional style. The Terracotta flooring with hand painted ceramic inserts typical of the Cilento region are a dominant feature of the apartments and the warm mediterranean colours combined with modern facilities and comfortable furnishings provide the visitor with everything to make a pleasant and unique stay.
The village of santa Maria di Castellabate is siutated in the beautiful and unspoilt Cilento coastline which in turn lies in the Parco Nazionale del Cilento a national parkland reserve which stretches along the coast and inland to the hills of Vallo di Diano. Offering a wonderful combination of wide sandy bays, rocky coves , verdant hillside and natural flora and fauna. The many sandy beaches around Santa maria di Castellabate were recently awarded the 'bandiera blu' the Blue Flag for their clean seas. The village of Santa maria runs parallel to the coast and offers a variety of shops, bars and gelaterias whilst the area boasts a wide selection of good restaurants offering genuine local cuisine.The neighbouring village of San Marco with its picturesque port can be easily reached in a short bus/car drive. The medieval village of Castellabate now under the patronage of the UNESCO can also be reached in a short bus/car drive and offers stunning views of the coast whilst one can explore it many hidden alleyways and marvel at its historic architecture.It is still an inhabited medieval village which has conserved many of it original features and boasts such personalities as Napoleon Bonaparte and Leon Cavallo as past guests. There are numerous restaurants in the area serving traditional dishes with home-grown produce and local wine. There is a local Saturday market in Santa maria and various festivals. The area is rich in history and archaelogical sites dating back to pre-Greek periods Santa Maria di Castellabate is situated 50km south of Salerno and the Amalfi coast. Its location means that it is somewhat off the tourist track allowing it to preserve a natural Italian ambiance and yet is within easy reach of tourist attractions. It is ideally situated for those wishing to enjoy a holiday in a coastal region and also have access to places of historic and cultural interest. Day excursions offer the opportunity to visits the unspoilt coastline further south to Velia and Palinuro or north towards the Amalfi coast and the island of Capri.The area is well known for the production of Mozzarella cheeses in Paestum and also wine and olive oil production. There are weekly markets in and around Santa maria. Various local seasonal festivals, mid August Santa maria festival with fireworks on 15th August. Rollerskating and fun park in summer.
The comfortable apartment (55 sq m) is on 2 levels in the former barn part of the original farmhouse and consists of a fully equipped kitchen on the ground floor with dishwasher and washing machine with dining /living area with flat screen TV, free wifi a twin bedroom and bathroom with shower. Stairs lead to a spacious comfortable double bedroom with wooden beams and an en suite bathroom with shower. There is a flatscreen TV and free wifi.
