About this property

Relax in the gorgeous garden with great views, amazing sunsets & unspoilt nature

Our holiday apartment 'Albegna'combines a modern interior with traditional elements. High ceilings and large windows flood the charming holiday apartment with light. The centrepiece is a genuine 'cucina in muratura' with a traditional stone sink and all the utensils you need to prepare delicious Tuscan dishes. For our smaller guests, we'll be happy to provide you with a cot and a highchair.

When the double doors of the apartment open towards the garden, you really know that you've arrived at your holiday destination. The 21 square metre covered terrace offers comfortable seating and plenty of space for an 'al fresco' meal - hot from the 'Weber' barbecue. The fantastic view stretches westwards over the Albegna valley and the nearby hills of the Maremma.

Albegna also has access to a tended private garden - a great place to while away lazy summer afternoons. At night the milky way stretches over the property and it's fun to see who can spot the most shooting stars.

Podere Sant'Angelo is special for its peaceful, tranquil location, great views, sunsets and lovely mediterranean garden.

Aunenthalt Roccalbegna Mai 2016

Delightful host, delightful place
The property we stayed in was excellent value for money: clean, comfortable and tastefully furnished. The views from the house were beautiful and the garden well tended. The owner was extremely welcoming and helpful with regards to the house itself and visiting the surrounding areas of interest. Although the location was off the beaten track, the advantages of being immersed in an area of such outstanding beauty more than made up for this. Recommended restaurants: La Foce, for exquisitely cooked fresh fish; La Grotta, for a delicious plate of locally produced cheeses and meats.

Wonderful week with stunning sunsets
Our apartment was very clean and well organised with a beautiful porticato and stunning views across the valley. Graham was there to greet us and gave us some fantastic suggestions of places to eat and interesting days out. We particularly enjoyed Niki de Saint Phalle's Tarot Garden. We also saw some impressive shooting stars. Overall, we had a great stay and would thoroughly recommend to anyone seeking a relaxing holiday in the Tuscan countryside.

A great and restful house, with a beautiful view
We have had a wonderful holiday at Albegna. A fine house in a restful surrounding with a great view. And Graham is an excellent host. The accomodation is perfect, with a very good bed. All you need is present, exept maybe a combi microwave. It's a place to come back again. With beautiful old villages in the neighbourhood. An absolut must if you like a restful holiday.

About the host

Host profile image
I grew up in the north west of England. After university studies in Scotland I left the UK to live and work in many different countries.
I've been enjoying life here at Podere Sant'Angelo now for over ten years and enjoy sharing my experiences of Maremma, where to eat and lovely places to visit, with guests.

Why they chose this property

Podere Sant'Angelo has wonderful views, and, as it faces west, enjoys amazing sunsets. The peace and quiet here have to be experienced to be believed and help all guests to relax and take on the slowed-down rhythms of the area. We're hidden away 700m high in the maremma hills, even during the hottest summer days we enjoy cool summer evenings.

What makes this property unique

This part of Tuscany is still off the regular tourist trail and, as such, offers a glimpse into life in Tuscany as it was 30 or 40 years ago. The small family run trattorie round about offer delicious home made cooking at very reasonable prices. The countryside isn't heavily farmed and there's an amazing variety of butterflies and insects in general to be seen here, the praying mantis is a favourite, as are the gekkoes that dart around the property in the summer months. There's no light pollution round here, guests often remark on the clarity of the night skies and the wonder of the Milky Way that stretches over the main house.
