About this property

A Gite called La Grange, with garden, BBQ area and heated swimming pool.

The Gite is your space and the garden, terrace and heated swimming pool are for your use only.
The pool is 8m x4m and 1.45m deep. In addition there is an area perfect for paddling or sitting on the side of the pool.

You have your own parking.

We have just a tourist board 4 star rating.

We are located in the heart of the Blaye, Cote de Bordeaux wine district, part of the Gironde. The Gite is probably around 200 years old, and has original beams and some exposed stone walls.

Our Gite has three ensuite bedrooms and a double height main room with two sofas and dining area. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher, washing machine, fridge freezer and cooker. There is also a coffee machine, microwave and toaster. Also a large fridge freezer.
Near the main terrace is a built in BBQ. There is heating in all rooms if required. Bedding and towels are provided, plus a welcome pack.

We are in easy driving distance (35-45mins) of Bordeaux, St Emillion, and the beautiful Gironde. The open sea is a little further-1hr 15mins to Royan, and similar to Arcachon and Lacanau.

We are available for any requests, and are very happy to give recommendations for restaurants and attractions. We can also arrange wine tastings and possibly chateau visits depending on time of year, (not easy when harvesting for instance).

The property is surrounded by vines. Within 3m there are over a dozen vineyards. The geography of the area is vineyards and forests, so plenty of wildlife and good cycling lanes and paths.

We are only 5km from the Route National to Bordeaux and north to Poitiers. Bordeaux airport is 45km away, 45minutes (except in rush hour). A train service to Bordeaux centre is accessible at St Yzan, 4km away. A good way of visiting Bordeaux is the tram service, nearest park and ride 30km, (25 mins then 20mins on tram), this is very good value.

A car is a necessity as we are 2km from our nearest village, (Saint-Mariens), and 3km from the nearest supermarket and baker.
The pool is only available from the beginning of June to the end of September, it is heated.

We provide a welcome pack, (included in price), which contains some basics , ( wine, coffee, milk etc) and other essentials.

We don't charge for cleaning but expect the property to be left as you found it, otherwise there will be a cleaning fee of 80 euros.

Wonderful house, amazing hosts
We stayed at Isabelle and Stephen's gite for a week and had a wonderful time - the location is perfect for exploring the Bordeaux area (wine tasting, visiting markets) and the house and backyard are so well set up you don't even have to leave. The house is gorgeous and Isabelle and Stephen have thought of everything in terms of what you might need including a lovely welcome basket, games, DVDs, household items and great kitchen. In addition they are very helpful with recommendations and bookings! The pool and back garden were the perfect place for enjoying lunch/lazy afternoons. We traveled with our three young children and the place was great for them - if you have a new walker there are a few steps that you need to watch them on. Overall we could not recommend the place more and we hope to come again, next time for a longer stay!

What a find.
This is a beautiful well equipped gîte. The hosts are extremely helpful and friendly. A lovely welcoming generous hamper. The gîte is in a quiet area with some easy walks very close but it is not at all far to supermarkets and boulangeries. Altogether a very enjoyable holiday and we mustn’t forget the fabulous pool.

A little gem
What a super place this is . A perfect place for a quiet family holiday . The hosts are a super couple who have thought of everything - from the welcome pack - to all the little things you need in a Gites . Nothing was forgotten . The pool is perfect and much needed and used during our stay as we had a heatwave -it is cleaned every day by this special robot and the lawn is kept pristine by another clever machine. The local area is wall to wall vines and beautiful countryside . It really is a super place . We had a great holiday - thank you so much

About the host

Hosted by Stephen Wright and Isabelle Bolatre

Host profile image
Stephen, I am from London but lived for many years in Devon and Cornwall. Most of my working life was in financial markets, starting in the Stock Exchange and finishing in the Money Market of London.

My wife is French, but Isabelle has lived for more years in England than France, her background is in wine and catering. She now works part time in a local chateau helping with administration and the business of wine.

Why they chose this property

Before we moved to France, we embarked on a 7 week road trip around many different areas of France, visiting over 20 properties and seeing dozens more. We visited towns and cities like Narbonne, Montpelier, Cahors and Bergerac. The Dordogne area, Languedoc and Roussillon and into the foothills of the Pyrenees.
We saw some great towns, but no where entralled us quite like Bordeaux. Then to drive through fields of vines and to realise that we would be in the middle of the Bordeaux wine area was really quite exciting.

That all set the scene for visiting 1 Souchet. We found a house with a separate house (Gite) that was for us just what we were looking for. A comfortable house with a separate Gite that had rustic charm, rural but not remote and near enough to Bordeaux to be able to take advantage of it and the surrounding region.

What makes this property unique

Being in the middle of vineyards, but not miles from anywhere.
