Best Holiday
My friends and I have stayed in many beautiful places in many wonderful countries. We booked Shanti's barns for an interval until we could go abroad but it turned out being the best holiday any of us had had in a while and just the holiday we all needed. Shanti is a wonderful host with a warm and generous family. Their property is beautiful, thoughtfully appointed, comfortable and in a wonderful location with a world of lovely nature on your doorstep. I wanted to book another week! Maybe next year.

Excellent accommodation and location
We were on a long family weekend age range 6 to 88. Shanti welcomed us and there was tea coffee and milk provided. We had 3 dogs and Shanti said we could use one of her fields to exercise the dogs. We were lucky with the weather which made the weekend even more special

Your Hosts We are Malcolm - retired environmental consultant, now gardener, birdwatcher and fisher- and Shanti - business consultant turned endurance horse rider. We live at Triscombe Farm close to the barns with our young son Joshua. Your host Shanti speaks English, Dutch, French and German. We are here to help!

Why they chose this property

Triscombe & the Quantocks Triscombe is a small hamlet nestled at the foot of the Quantock Hills with a few cottages, a tearoom, plant nursery and a pub right opposite our farm. The Quantock Hills with deep wooded valleys, open heathland and rich flora and fauna are ideal for walking, cycling and horse riding. Several paths start from our farm. From the barns themselves and the top of the hills you can enjoy amazing views of the Bristol Channel, Wales, the Mendip Hills and Exmoor. Your welcome pack will include a long list of things to do: steam train, beach, fossil hunt, tea room, kids farm, castle visit, pubs, brewery, gardens....

Triscombe Barns Our Victorian barns are Grade II listed, based on their architecture and specifically their symmetry. Cattle used to be housed in what is now the Cows Barn and you can guess what the Hay Barn was used for. Above the tackroom, the stable groom kept himself warm by the fireplace which is still present in the Grooms Studio. Brick and stone detailing around windows and doors show the age of the stable block. The tack room has its original saddle mounts and oak stables are in keeping with the traditional style. Hay is now stored in what used to be the coach house.

What makes this property unique

Access The barns have their own entrance and separate parking from the farmhouse. The Grooms Studio is acccessed through the Tack Room. You are welcome to walk over our 30 acre farm; through fields with sheep and horses, follow the tracks in our wood and cross the stream.

Horses & dogs Guests are welcome to bring dogs and horses. We have stables, an arena, fields and a endless tracks on the Quantock Hills. Our riding is some of the best in England; amazing views, wooded valleys, great cantering on the open moor and serious hill climbs for those wanting to get their horses a bit fitter... The Quantock Hills were recently featured in the Times 20 best winter walks and the Guardian 20 great UK walks with pubs, chosen by nature writers.

Nature The Quantock Hills was England's first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and consist of large amounts of heathland, oak woodland, ancient parklands and agricultural land. The various habitats, together with the wide range of slopes and aspects, provide ideal conditions for a rich fauna. It is an important bird area with breeding populations of pied flycatcher, wood warbler, stonechat and even peregrine falcon and nightjar. The Quantocks are also known for red deer and in the peak mating season or rut (mid-October), loud roaring of fully grown stags is heard echoing around our farm!

Getting here Triscombe is a 3 hour drive from London, 1h south of Bristol and 1h north of Exeter. A fast train takes you from Paddington to Taunton in under 2 hours. A taxi ride from Taunton to Triscombe is just over 15 minutes. Once you've made it to the barns, you wont need much transport if you do an online shop beforehand and eat at the pub opposite!
