A very well presented spilt level small apartment with some compromises
The property has a great view from the top floor of the beach and the harbour and it is an extremely well presented spilt level flat. The street door to the block leads to a small shared ground floor passage. Then there are stairs that lead to a shared 1st floor landing and a Yale locked door to the flat. 1st floor: bedroom and bathroom. Another set of twisting stairs lead to the sitting room/kitchen on the 2nd floor.
The bedlinen is of a very good quality, but sadly when I came to launder it, I was unable to. There is a washing machine, but no tumbler dryer and no outside space. The drying rack is just too small for a set of king sized linen. If you are staying for more than 7 days, my suggestions are; bring your own linen, pay 30€ per couple for clean linen, or drive to Argeles to a launderette.
There are some health and safety issues that need to be addressed as part of the owner’s duty of care. The street door from the property is shared by 4 flats. One has to turn the key to lock this door. This lock is very temperamental and sometimes won’t turn. If there was a fire, one would need to; 1. Remember the front door key. 2. Hope that the lock works for you. If you leave the street door unlocked another tenant locks it, so there is no easy way out. I contacted the owner but I received no response. If the other tenants won’t agree to pay for a new lock, please just buy for a Yale lock and just give them their keys!
As noted before, the very small bath is situated under the 2nd floor stairs. Therefore, there is very little room to manoeuvre. Climbing up and over into the tiny bath holding a folding glass shower screen to reach the compromised shower space was just about ok for me at 5’7” but climbing out over the bath again with soapy water surrounding my feet, into the petite bathroom was scary. My suggestion is: take out the bath and have a walk in shower or wet room. It’s safer plus the bath is too small and comprised by the stairs to be of any use.
The flat is well placed, is extremely close to the beach and amenities, and yes it is noisy when the cavern of empty wine bottles are emptied into the tip truck at 0500, but that is a price one pays. We did become accustomed to it.
Finally, we enjoyed our stay but rarely ate in. Sadly there is no freezer, not even a tiny one within the fridge. Therefore, one can never have ice cubes for your drinks or emergencies, ice cream, a pack of frozen peas etc. What a shame!
