About the property

6-8 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, 14X6 metre pool, 10 minutes to bar, 35 to

‘It really is a special place and we enjoyed its remoteness, tranquility and beauty. We had various family and friends out whilst there who all enjoyed their time…We spent a great day in Granada enjoying the delights of the Alhambra and Moroccan markets. We also enjoyed trips to the beach at Agua Amarga and Las Negras. After three weeks we felt we understood the rhythm of Las Almendras: watching the figs and grapes ripen.. beautiful birdlife. We had linnets nesting in the cypress trees and they fledged whilst there….All in all it was a memorable holiday and our children were fortunate to experience a little piece of real Spain. It is a beautiful property and in our view would certainly appeal to the more adventurous and discerning holiday maker.’ (The Fry Family)

‘We loved Las Almendras, We ate at Bar Lopez on Saturday and Sunday, they were very welcoming and we thought the food was lovely and cheap. We all thoroughly enjoyed relaxing in the garden early in the morning when the sun came up - it was so beautiful. We even saw a bus go past the house! Thank you so much for letting us stay at Las Almendras. It worked so well with there being nine of us. (Jackie and family)

“Just wanted to let you know we had a great time in Spain, we thoroughly enjoyed it and had great weather. We are great fans of Bar Lopez and had some fantastic meals there. It is a beautiful villa and the pool was great… We really did have a great time, it is such a beautiful setting and the villa is so well equipped and spacious. Ben joined the local kids regularly for games of football, which was great!’ (Catherine, Alistair and the boys – visited for cycle training)

‘I just wanted to drop you a quick line to say how much we loved staying at Las Almendras. The house is wonderful and beautifully furnished (you have excellent taste!) and such a fabulous place to be. Loved all the books and DVDs. I was able to get a lot of writing done in the little room off the bedroom, in the sight of the olive trees and small birds who paid a visit every morning. It accommodated a whole variety of guests and their you. The sun shone and the pool glistened. A holiday to remember and as our tans fade, the memories certainly won't.’ (Tess and partner)

‘Your house is VAST! The living and outdoor areas are fantastic and very well equipped and very comfortable. I would have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and, because of its size and the separate areas both inside and out, it is a fab house for two families to share and still have a bit of private space. I really can't think of anything negative to say about it, it's a great location and rather nice to hear the goat bells and activities of the village, not to mention the very vocal birds!’ (Jude, who ended up buying a house in the area)

‘Firstly let me say we had a fabulous time staying at Las Almendras. Whether we were relaxing by the pool or popping out to eat at some of your recommended places the holiday was just amazing. The house was brilliant, in fact I think there were several rooms we only ever went into once, and that was when we were playing hide and seek with the children, and the pool was just perfect, so thank you very much!’ (Steve, Samantha and family)

These are some of the comments from guests when I rented the house a couple of years ago. I can't post them on the site because they are more than a year old - but they give a good idea of how people felt!

Las Almendras is a beautiful, traditional Andalucian farmhouse, lovingly restored with many original features like heavy wooden doors, rustic cane and wood-beamed ceilings, an old wine press, ancient threshing circle and traditional outdoor bread oven. Las Almendras is ideal group accommodation for two to three families with children. There is a 14x6m pool, a large porch room for outdoor dining, a lovely private terrace overhung by vines at the back, and a barbecue.

The house is very spacious, with plenty of room for groups to have private space while sharing a holiday. It has 6 bedrooms (4 doubles, 2 twins) and 5 bathrooms. Downstairs, the dining room seats 12, and you can also dine in the big wooden porch room that overlooks the pool. There are 2 other sitting rooms and a library/hall downstairs, and a sun room with double sofa bed and a games room, which can take an extra bed, upstairs.

Swallows, larks and rarer birds call and swoop around the house- and build their nests on the window sills. White and black figs, pomegranates and prickly pears ripen and the bells of local goats ring out as they are escorted through the fields.

Formerly a guest house listed in Sawday's Special Places to Stay and now much upgraded, the house is very well equipped with plenty of china, glasses and cooking equipment, as well as personal touches such as local Sorbas ceramics.

There is masses to do in the area - walking, horse-riding, cycling, snorkelling - ideal for active people - though equally ideal for vegetating by the pool with a book and a glass of wine. It's famous for bird watching around here, and we can help plan activities. The hills and empty roads are ideal for cycle training - idea in the cooler months before the season. Or visit our favourite beach Villaricos - one beach bar with great food and no other buildings. Children will love Oasys theme park, the water park in Vera. Even in summer, many beaches are quiet - there are no hotels on the beaches here, and in Cabo de Gata beaches are a natural paradise without any buildings.

About Juliet Lucy

I'm Juliet. I work as a PR consultant, and have 2 grown-up children. I am passionate about Spain - my best friend lives in Madrid, so I visit there or the south whenever I can. My partner

and I often drive about and stay in paradors on the way down to the house. We are active walkers/cyclists - though once we're there we tend to end up just sitting on the terrace with a drink and book most of the day. We lived out in the house for a year - along with 2 donkeys!

Juliet Lucy purchased this farmhouse in 2005

Why Juliet Lucy chose Levante Almeriense

Las Almendras is a really special house - it's very tranquil, and you're surrounded by nature. The house is very comfortable and well-stocked because we lived there - it doesn't have that empty feeling that some rental houses have. We don't have 6 knives and forks - we have 4 bulging drawers-full! It's also got a lot of furniture I chose, lived with, and love - old French cupboards and our huge oak dining table.

There's still a traditional way of life in the village - the people are farmers or older people who grew up in Los Herreras. You just hear the odd dog barking or rooster crowing - so you really can get away from it all. I love the open spaces and the 'wild west' desert feel of Almeria - which has the only desert in Europe - but the area around the house is greener, with almond trees and olives and citrus plantations. This is one of the few places in Spain where you can still find a deserted beach.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Peace and plenty of space - 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms, a big pool, fields to roam over - in a quiet village still largely untouched by time.

Gorgeous farmhouse property

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely farmhouse property with extended family during the height of the summer. We all quickly relaxed into a daily routine of lounging by the pool, the occasional dip to cool off, siestas in the cool house and BBQs in the evening. On more energetic days we'd go on trips to the surrounding countryside and beach.

The property is lovingly restored by the owners; attractive, comfortable, clean, good amenities and the pool and surrounding views are fabulous.

Highly recommended !

Wonderful rambling farmhouse, beautiful setting

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful old Spanish farmhouse, restored to an extremely high standard.

We came here in September 2016 for a week with just two of us, but we were also here a couple of years ago with a large family group. It's ideal for that - there's enough space either for all of you to get together in one place for meals and drinks, or for just about everyone to find their own quiet spot to read or sunbathe.

I think in our group there were some who just liked to be by the pool, some who liked sitting and browsing in the book room; some liked the little terrace above the old stables for evening drinks; some liked relaxing in the cool of the living room; there was even a sun room off the study that some people hadn't realised was there until the last day.

We liked Bar Lopez down at Rambla Aljibe, and the beach bar at Villaricos.

I'd certainly come again, and would recommend it to friends.

Peace and comfort in beautiful farmhouse with pool

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful holiday here. The house has lots of authentic charm. It was clean, beautifully furnished and equipped with everything you could need from games, books and DVDs to dishwasher and washing machine. Not to mention a machine to make fresh juice from the local oranges. The highlight for me was swimming in the exceptionally large and lovely pool with beautiful views of the countryside. My family and I spent relaxing days by the pool, trips to unspoilt beaches or visiting nearby Lubrin or the market in Vera. In the evenings we visited the friendly local bar or enjoyed delicious local food and wine under the stars on the terrace. I can't wait to go back.

Beautiful Spanish farm house

  • 5 of 5

This is a fantastic traditional Spanish farmhouse with excellent facilities as well as a large pool. There are beautiful views of the nearby village with local paths and trails for walking and cycling. There is ample living accommodation both inside as well as outside dining - the kitchen is ideal for preparing meals and is also a social space. The views of the

Sea are amazing - there are many traditional bars and restaurants a car drive away. We had a large party of two families and still found that there was plenty of space . This is a fabulous clean and well presented holiday property offering a beautiful paradise within the mountains.

Peaceful, beautiful country house

  • 5 of 5

The house has all the comfort a modern one requires. You can tell the owner has lived there and has decorated it with love and care, and a sutil taste to make you feel at home. The peace, the silence, the almond trees, the stars, the breeze, the kindness of the people in Lubrin, the closest town nearby, the excellence of the sardines and the shrimps when you go to the beach bar of el Vilarico make you wonder why am I living in a big city full of noise and smoke. Last, but not least, the swimming pool, for those who like to read, swim, have a drink, an olive, a beer, look at the sky day or night. Don't miss it. I hope you will enjoy as much as I have.
