Recently refurbished, modern, spacious holiday home which sleeps 10

Caithness is a beautiful, recently refurbished 6 bedroomed holiday home - perfect for large families - situated on the banks of the Monmouthshire Brecon Canal, it boasts beautiful views and is the perfect destination to enjoy a relaxing escape to the welsh countryside.

During your stay, you will have access to the whole house including the parking area to the front and the garden to the rear.

GROUND FLOOR

The ground floor comprises a cosy lounge with comfy 'slouchy' sofas, a log fire for those cold winter nights and a large flat screen smart TV with Netflix and TV catch up services. There is a spacious kitchen diner with a double oven, induction hob, a dishwasher and fridge freezer. The utility room houses a washing machine and tumble dryer along with an iron and ironing board should you need them. There is also a quiet study room with a desk and swivel chair, several armchairs and a range of books and board games to choose from. Finally there is a cinema/games room - equipped with a multi game full sized Pool table/air hockey deck/table tennis and a projector which can be used to watch DVDs, Netflix or catch up TV. It can also be linked up to laptops/XBOX/PlayStation via the HDMI cable.

FIRST FLOOR

The first floor showcases a large bathroom with walk in shower and a freestanding bath. Bedroom 1 is our master bedroom with a supersized window and a spectacular view, super king bed and TV. Bedroom 2 has a king bed and a TV. Bedroom 3 has a king bed. Bedroom 4 has a double bed and a TV. Bedroom 5 has a single bed. Bedroom 6 has a single bed. All bedrooms have drawers and wardrobes. In three of the bedrooms there are dressing tables with hairdryers. There is also an additional shower room with a toilet and basin. There will be a small selection of toiletries available for you to use during your stay such as: shampoo/conditioner/shower gel/shower caps. All towels are provided for guests.

OUTSIDE

At Caithness, we have 2 canoes and a rowing boat available for guests to use on the canal, along with several life jackets. It is possible to hire a variety of larger boats/barges for the day from Goytre Warf which is a short 30-minute cycle ride away or a 10-minute drive.

We have 5 mountain bikes available for you to use should you wish to explore the cycle path along the banks of the canal. This path is accessible for over 30 miles towards Brecon for cyclists, walkers and boats alike.

The canal is well stocked with a variety of fish. Fishing is available from the banks of the garden with several rods and fishing gear available for guests to use.

Throughout the summer months there is outdoor furniture available to use on the balcony along with a gas barbecue.

Please note: From October - March they will be covered/stored away.

Check in is from 3pm on your day of arrival and check out is by 11am on your day of departure, unless otherwise agreed prior to booking.

Why Caithness Holiday Home chose Pontypool

'Caithness' has been in the family since 1959 when it was built. Named as such as a result of Scottish heritage. In 2014 - as a family - we set out to extend and completely renovate the building to transform it into a spacious, modern and comfortable holiday home. The exterior has been updated with fresh, bright contrasting paintwork. What was originally a sloping, unused front garden is now an elevated parking area with drive in drive out functionality, with steps down to the front door. At the rear a 30 metre squared balcony has been constructed with bifolding doors opening out from the dining room and lounge. There is rattan furniture available to use during the summer months, to allow you to enjoy the view while relaxing on the balcony. We have added a two storey extension housing a cinema/games room, a utility room and a study on the ground floor. A master bedroom with a feature window offering the most fantastic view of the garden, canal and Welsh countryside beyond it. A bathroom with a walk in shower and freestanding bath and a double bedroom. The main house has been renovated to combine the kitchen a There is a contemporary feel to the whole house, with brand new fixings, furniture and appliances throughout. The house is situated along the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal, boasting beautiful views from the garden of barges passing by, wildlife existing peacefully and the green fields and hills beyond.

Brilliantly appointed, comfortable, warm home with great views over the canal and rolling fields

Well equipped and very welcoming house, warm, and really comfortable accommodation. Fantastic games/cinema room was a real bonus! It was a Christmas stay so too cold for use of kayaks, but the provision of bikes and boats was thoughtful, and the bikes were used along the canal path once or twice! Thoughtful owners made the stay very easy (and great Christmas lights and decorations thank you!), plenty of information, all well organised and to hand.

Bedrooms all comfortable, and excellent bathroom facilities including a spacious walk-in wet room shower. Plenty of TVs provided in rooms too. A really pleasant, enjoyable stay.

Amazing house with beautiful views!

We were a party of 12 family members aged from 9 months to mid fifties

Absolutely everything you could wish for was provided, from the smallest thing such as enough cutlery/plates etc, to the boat/bikes and kayaks. All of the beds were wonderfully comfortable (my eldest daughter actually found the tag on her mattress, so she could look it up in order to buy one!) The house was spotless when we arrived and directions and access to the house instructions were really helpful. We found the information book detailing shops, restaurants and takeaway places available nearby really handy.

We had a lovely long walk along the canal, and found a nice local park and swimming pool nearby, but probably didn’t do enough ‘exploring’ as we were all so relaxed! However, every member of our party wants to return, so we’ll save that for next time!

This property is a real gem, and easily accommodates large groups very very comfortably-we will definitely be booking again in the future.

Excellent property and location

Just back from our Easter break here where 3 generations of our family had a great time. The house is immaculate and ideally situated for lots of nearby attractions. Within the house itself everything was thought of, the eldest loved the pool table and Netflix. The youngest just enjoyed all the space to run around in and everyone enjoyed the views and the general homely feel. Would love to visit again and an extra thanks from everyone for all the Easter treats 😀

The house is situated in a quiet cul-de-sac, pleasantly positioned right alongside the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal.

Pontypool park is only a 2 minute drive from the house or a 10 minute walk, including facilities such as a children's play area, rugby pitch (home to Pontypool RFC), tennis courts, pitch and putt, bowls and a dry ski slope. It has historical features - including Italian Gardens, Ice Houses, Folly Tower and Shell Grotto all of which can be found within the 150 acre park. Pontypool Active Living Centre is situated within the grounds, where there is a swimming pool/gym along with squash/badminton and table tennis playing facilities. There is also a soft play area for children within the centre called Treasure Island.

There are a range of pubs/restaurants near Caithness. The closest include The Harvester, Wain-y-clare, McDonalds, KFC, Ahar Indian Restaurant and Goytre Arms all of which are only 5 minutes away by car.

Slightly further afield in the nearby town of Usk (15 mins away) there is the Kings Head, The Three Salmons, Newbridge on Usk, Dil Indian Cuisine. Usk is a small town with cobbled streets and antiques shops and clothing boutiques. Usk Island is a large open space and play area along the river Usk, a great location for summer picnics or BBQs.

In Cwmbran (15 mins away) there is Frankie and Bennys, Tiffins Indian Buffet Restaurant, Page's Fish and Chips and many more. Cwmbran also has a shopping centre with free parking along with a Vue Cinema, Bowlplex, Kaspa's Desserts, Limitless Indoor Trampoline Park and Mecca Bingo.

In Abergavenny (20 mins away) you have the choice of the Plas Derwen, The Hardwick, La Brasseria Italiana, The Walnut Tree and plenty of others. Abergavenny is also surrounded by three mountains – the Skirrid, the Blorenge and the Sugar Loaf all of which offer fantastic views from the top. The historical Abergavenny Market is in the heart of the town and is always bustling with locals and visitors.

In Newport (20 mins away) Friars Walk has plenty to offer including Nandos, Chiquitos, Las Iguanas, Prezzo, Bistrot Pierre, Zizzi, Wagamamas and TGI Fridays. It has a great selection of high street shops along with a 12 lane Superbowl including Laser Quest and a Crazy Club for children. There is also a Cineworld Cinema.
