About the property

Two bedroomed traditional lakeland terraced cottage

Nutkin Cottage offers guests both a comfortable yet spacious traditional Lakeland cottage in the heart of this popular Lakeland village.

The cottage is located in a quiet terrace, providing easy access to a variety of shops, cafes and pubs. You will be spoiled for choice on the selection of restaurants and tourist attractions available locally and with the added advantage of also being only a few minutes stroll away from Lake Windermere itself.

The cottage has a delightful, cosy lounge with gas stove and a well stocked bookcase with both books and DVD's. The dining room affords additional seating and a wood burning stove set into a traditional Lakeland slate fireplace and plenty of board games for young and old for those cosy nights in. A bright kitchen is well supplied with all modern appliances to afford you the perfect self catering holiday.

Upstairs to a spacious double room with TV and walk in wardrobe. The twin room, also has a TV and ample storage. The house bathroom provides guests with both a roll top bath to soak in after a day on the fells and a shower over the bath. Outside to a private, enclosed yard and outhouse at the rear.

The owners have gone to great lengths to maintain a lot of the original features of this quaint cottage but also provide guests with all the necessary comforts for a memorable stay in the Lake District.

As well as a National Park, the Lake District received worldwide recognition in 2017 when we were granted World Heritage Status by UNESCO! Something we are extremely proud of.

Guestbook comments from the manager

This was a last minute change of booking for us and it was a great choice. Nutkin Cottage is cosy, clean, well equipped and in a great location. A lot of thought has been put into the decor and facilities and it suited us perfectly. It's just a short walk down to Lake Winderemere, past some great shops and restaurants, so plenty to do and see. We couldn't fault it and wish we had longer. Would highly recommend. Thank you.

Pristine cottage in perfect location

  • 5 of 5

We had an incredible week staying at Nutkin Cottage. Despite the cold, drizzly weather, our holiday was made perfect by the warm, perfectly clean cottage in the most convenient location to Lake Windermere, the World of Beatrix Potter, and a variety of shops and restaurants. The kitchen had absolutely everything you could possibly need (such as not just 1 but 2 cafetieres for this coffee drinker!), there's a washer & dryer for easily doing laundry, and we had no problems with our arrival, parking, departure, or receiving the quick refund for the damage deposit. This gorgeous property equates to an all-around stress-free holiday. I highly recommend!!

Charming period cottage that feels like a cosy home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

First impressions count, and the instructions on how to reach Nutkin, gain access and operate everything inside couldn’t have been clearer. Two wonderful living spaces downstairs, and a brilliant galley kitchen. Upstairs a big master bedroom, very comfortable bed, and great twin room for guests/children. Wouldn’t hesitate in returning if I head back to Bowness. There was also a parking spot on the street outside (permit provided) and very good location for all local amenities. Only negative I can think of from my three week stay was a neighbour who could be heard playing the piano through the walls, but if you’re out and about most of the time (as I was) this will hardly register at all. Everything else, faultless. Thank you!

Excellent. Beautiful Cottage, Ideal location.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was Immaculately clean, well positioned for everything Bowness and the surrounding area has to offer.

For the week we were there it instantly felt like 'home from home' There were some lovely individual touches created by the owner. Despite its enviable position off the main Bowness High Street the cottage was peacefully quiet.

The cottage has a small courtyard of a garden withe the added bonus of a washing machine and tumble dryer.

It was our first visit to the Lake District and we wouldn't hesitate to come back and recommend the cottage to our friends

Owner's Response: What a lovely review Christine and we appreciate you taking the time to post this, along with some useful information for future guests. We are thrilled you enjoyed the cottage so much and do hope we get the chance to welcome you back again very soon. Yes, the rear courtyard is a fantastic sun trap at this time of year and as you said, peaceful enough to sit and enjoy a glass of something chilled!

Beautifully furnished and spacious cottage

  • 5 of 5

We fell in love with Nutkin Cottage as soon as we arrived. It's spacious with lovely high ceilings and beautifully presented with lots of Squirrel Nutkin details, really quaint. Perfect location in centre of Bowness, hardly had to take the car out. Easy parking outside the cottage helped by permit left by the owner. Excellent facilities, everything there you would need especially in the kitchen, a real home from home.

A fabulous stay on the doorstep of Bowness-in-Windermere

  • 5 of 5

From the first point of enquiry, Tracy made our stay at Nutkin Cottage so easy and it was the perfect cosy, home from home setting in a perfect location in Bowness for a family of 2 adults & 2 children (9&7yrs). We honestly can't fault a thing. The house was immaculate on arrival and we immediately felt at home in a charming cosy cottage in the middle of the Lakes. Nutkin is equipped with everything you need for a relaxing break- linen, towels, kitchen utensils & crockery, DVDs, a fabulous selection of books (I was gutted I brought 3 with me but I loved browsing through nonetheless!) for adults & children even some board games. The kids loved the Beatrix Potter books and toys/cushions around the cottage. Our stay was the perfect location for a much needed R&R allowing us the balance between relaxing in a home from home setting as well as being on the doorstep to beautiful surroundings and lots to explore. We ate out for some lunches/dinners and particularly enjoyed House of Siam (Thai) and The Westmorland Inn which is approx. 200m from the cottage. We were very sad departing after our weeks break but there's no doubt that we will return to Nutkin Cottage again! Thank you for assisting in making this a very stress free booking & break!
