This cottage is well placed for all that Appledore and North Devon have to offer. Mulberry Tree Cottage is situated in the centre of the village in a private courtyard, so has the benefit of a busy village but the peace you sometimes want on holiday.
I live here in Appledore with my husband, two sons and two dogs. Noel & I grew up in north east London (although people down here always think I'm from Essex) but moved to Hertfordshire, where we had our two sons. I previously worked in retail banking in London, Essex and Milton Keynes whilst Noel had his own building maintenance company. We moved to Appledore in 2010. Noel is now a member of the Appledore RNLI crew and I manage the cottages.
I love walking, rugby and meeting friends - all of which are easy to do here in Appledore.
Paula purchased this cottage in 2010
We found out about Appledore by a chance conversation with someone nearby, so we thought we would see what it was all about. We found that lots of what happens in Appledore happens behind the Quay. In 2006, we found a holiday home in Market Street and made lots of friends - old and young, true locals, nearly locals and grockles! We decided we loved it so much we wanted to live here. In July 2010 we bought this small holiday complex - there are three holiday cottages (Apple Tree, Pear Tree & Mulberry Tree). Appledore has a great community spirit within it and it's great to be able to smile at people and people smile back or say hello or stop for a quick chat (although this usually ends up not so quick). There is a good pub/music vibe in the village and usually something or other is going on.
The cottages are perfectly placed for the village shops, post office, library, coffee shops, tea rooms, pubs and eateries. Yet because they are hidden away behind the facade of the street front there is peace and quiet if you want it.
Mulberry Tree Cottage is a little gem of a cottage. It has a cosy atmosphere and has a wonderfully large waterfall walk in shower. It has a quirky interior design with bowler hats, wall art and martime artefacts. The courtyard and garden have a mediterranean feel with their colours and planting. The other great thing is it's location. In fact, many people - visitors and locals alike - would never know it existed. The cottage is in the middle of the village but yet hidden away.
We had a lovely week stay at the cottage it is fully equipped with every thing you need, a great touch were the dressing gown and slippers!
The cottage is cosy and has some great design touches.
We were not expecting a Devonshire tea with prosseco a lovely surprise courtesy of Paula
There is so much to do in and around Appledore. There are the blue flag beaches at Westward Ho!, Saunton and Croyde for surfing, paddle boarding, body boarding, swimming, rock pooling etc. Fishing with local guides both out to sea and up river. Great walks along the South West Coast path, down the Tarka Trail or over Exmoor or slightly further a field at Dartmoor.
