A charming 1-bedroom Old Town apartment (sleeps 2) in superb frontline location

Bedrooms 1
Property type apartment
Minimum Stay 4 - 7 nights

About the property

Superb Frontline Apartment in probably the best position in Kalkan

A small but comfortable one-bedroom apartment on the first floor of Kalkan's unique old Customs House building; in a simply unbeatable location, overlooking the harbour and very close to the superb restaurants and bars that make Kalkan so distinctive.

Pembe is designed for two people (but you could get a small child on the sofa bed in the kitchen area). It's a great low-cost base from which to explore the fabulous delights of Kalkan and to eat out at the myriad of legendary restaurants, right on your doorstep. You can self-cater if you wish, however, as Pembe has a well-equipped kitchen with everything you need for a comfortable holiday.

But Pembe's strength is its position. Whilst the apartment itself is in a tranquil, peaceful setting, you are literally a stone's throw from the beach and harbour - and just a minute's stroll away from the delightful restaurants, boutiques and bars that make Kalkan so special.

You cannot get a better location in Kalkan. There is no swimming pool at the Customs House - but with the largest pool in the world (The Med!) just a few metres away, who needs one?

You will be well looked after by Samet, the local manager who speaks very good English and he works very hard to make sure that guests at all the properties in the Customs House enjoy their stay to the full. Any problems? Just call Samet!

Why Kalkan Secrets chose Kalkan

The three properties in the Customs House are unique!! These three properties (Customs House, Sonsuz and this one, Pembe) fit in perfectly with the rest of our portfolio and offer a truly special experience, right in the heart of Kalkan. The house and/or apartments are ideal for visitors to Kalkan who aren't bothered about having a pool - although the largest pool in the world is actually just a stone's throw away ;) - and just want to be in the old town area of Kalkan in a quiet and peaceful location, but close to all the amenities.

What makes this apartment unique

The old pink Custom House is a historic landmark in Kalkan, and you simply can't get accommodation any closer to the sea in this port.

The Customs House, Sonsuz and Pembe apartments are quirky, original and unique and all represent amazing value for money.

Kalkan is ideal for all types of water activities from water skiing to scuba diving. Kalkan Bay also has a Blue Flag Award for cleanliness. Walkers and hikers are well catered for with the ancient Lycian Way on the doorstep. This passes directly through the town making it ideal for anyone wanting to walk part of the extensive, picturesque route. Early morning horse riding lessons are available on Patara Beach and during the summer months Yoga classes are available on the sea front at the renowned Villa Mahal, only a short water taxi away. Kalkan also provides many opportunities for sketching, painting or photography as its flora and fauna never fails to inspire.

A local restaurant called Gurus has been recently featured in a national UK newspaper and is popular for its Turkish cookery classes which are a great way to meet new people in an informal setting and enjoy and introduction to delicious Turkish cuisine

The Sonsuz is enviably located just a few seconds stroll to Kalkan's own blue flag beach and next to Kalkan's stylish harbour eateries and cafes. A range of gulets on the harbour provide trips for relaxing days out and there are also many beach clubs close by. The picturesque turquoise waters of ‘Kaputas Beach’ is about 10 mins drive away (taxis are plentiful and there is a regular dolmus service) Patara Beach, one of the world's best beaches is only a 15 min drive.

Kalkan is reached via Dalaman airport, from which we can help you to arrange a transfer. Dalaman is only 90 mins away and is serviced by most airlines from the UK (First Choice, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Easyjet and Jet 2 etc etc), operating from most regional airports. We will be happy to assist with locating flights and booking transfers.

Sonsuz is located just steps away from Kalkan's harbour, restaurants, shops & other facilities. It is located on a pretty, bougainvillea filled street with hibiscus & jasmine scenting the air in a very peaceful & tranquil setting. Kalkan is at the heart of Lycia & many historical sites are close including Xanthos, Letoon, Tlos & Patara. Kekova. The market towns, Fethiye & Kas are also nearby. The Greek ghost village, Kaya (subject of Louis de Berniere's 'Birds without Wings') is 1 hour away.

Further Details:

Kalkan is a small harbour village with winding cobbled streets and alleyways, which has expanded gradually over recent years. The ancient old town retains its original character, surrounded by the awesome Taurus mountains.

However... nowhere, more than Kalkan, is location so important. As it extends up a mountain side, many properties claim to be within "walking distance" but this is often only possible with great care - and great fitness! Not so here! The Sonsuz provides a great opportunity to stay within the Old Town and enjoy all it has to offer on the doorstep without worrying about taxis into town (and home again)!

Close to Sonsuz, lies the harbour with its traditional gullets and visiting yachts. There is a wealth of superb restaurants, the best to be had in coastal Turkey and for which Kalkan is most famous. These can be found along the harbour front or on roof terraces offering excellent views over the sea, superb fresh fish and seafood. Many of these feature in reports by the UK press. Although sophisticated and chic, these have still retained their Turkish charm. Shops are very good quality with a range of merchandise available from arts and crafts to ‘designer’ handbags. There is also a weekly Thursday market, great for bargain hunting and there are a number of banks with ATM machines and a Post Office both in the village.
