About Mike Axon

Jean (my wife) and I have lived in Cornwall for four years now and we enjoy welcoming new and returning guests to our smallholding. Set in a secluded, quiet location yet close to shops and a pub and within four miles of Looe and Polperro. We believe this is an ideal location whether you want to just relax or get out and visit the many close by attractions.

Mike Axon purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Mike Axon chose Pelynt

Cornwall is a magical county with a long, distinguished and unusual history. Wilton Mill Farm is ideally located to explore the county from the smuggling capital of Polperro to Bodmin Moors and beyond. The Eden Project and Monkey Sanctuary are nearby as are many delightful towns and villages like Fowey and Mevagissey. So many beaches are available nearby like popular Looe beach to more secluded bays like Lansallos or Port Nadler.

Walkers are also catered for with walks nearby for all levels of walking including the magnificent South West Coastal Path.

What makes this cottage unique

Once a working mill this property dates back to 1790 and has been lovingly restored to maintain its character whilst containing all the modern elements required to allow guests to decide how much contact they have with the outside world.

No light pollution allows for wonderful night views of the stars and our 13 acres of land allow unspoilt views over the rolling countryside with ample space for guests to roam.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Had a brilliant second year stay.  First year two weeks stay in Barn Cottage 2015 and this year first two weeks in August in Wheel Cottage.  Jean and Mike perfect hosts, have to say just like going to visit family.  Home made scones, jam and Cornish Cream in the fridge for when you arrive.  Cannot recommend this highly enough, we have already booked for 2017.  Everything clean, just home from home, perfect location with just perfect hosts. Jean and Mike are very knowledgeable about the local area, where best food and beaches can be found.  Hard to leave at the end of 2 weeks even though we live in a beautiful part of the country.  We are so looking forward to our stay next year, our chocolate Labrador, Fudge, loves it just as much as we do too

Perfect place to stay

What a fantastic cottage, refurbished to a high standard, well equipped, very clean, and a great base to explore Cornwall. Jean and Mike were very helpful, cream tea on arrival and logs for fire were greatly appreciated. Would love to go back.

A really delightful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this lovely cottage from 19th to 30th September. Jean and Mike gave us a warm and friendly welcome when we arrived and provided us with lots of useful information regarding places to visit, restaurants etc. (Not to mention scones, jam and clotted cream!) The cottage is warm, spacious and very comfortable and a great base from which to explore. We would love to visit again.

Beautiful cottage great location

  • 5 of 5

A beautifully renovated character cottage in a gorgeous setting. Situated in the village of Pelynt down a farm lane there is a well equipt Spar at the top of the lane open late every day. The Jubilee Inn also at the top of the lane serves food all day every day. The cottage is only 10 mins from Looe and the little fishing port of Polperro. We and our two dogs received a very warm welcome from the owners Jean and Mick a nice touch was the most welcome scones, cream and jam. They were very helpful in suggesting places to visit in the area you can walk from the cottage to Polperro. I think we are quite fussy people and could not fault this cottage its location or lovely owners in any way and we would highly recommend it.

Lovely stay at a beautiful cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week (12th - 18th Aug 2017) at Wheel Cottage. It is a beautiful cottage and the owners Mike and Jean are lovely hosts. Our little boy loved seeing the horse and shetland pony each day. The cottage is lovely and very comfortable.

We enjoyed exploring the local area including Talland Bay beach, the Bodmin steam train with a walk to Lanhydrock, Polperro, Looe, Mevagissey and Charlestown.

We will definitely look at visiting again! Thank you!
