Holiday Home in Thurlestone, South Devon, England

Higher Cross is a spacious and beautifully presented holiday home located on the outskirts of Thurlestone Village in the South Hams. It's beautiful sea views stretch from South Milton right across to Bigbury-on-Sea, with views across to Dartmoor from the rear of the property. The picturesque village with a handy store for essentials, recently refurbished pub serving locally-sourced food and beer, Voyage Spa, Tennis club, Links Golf course and popular sandy beaches are just 5 mins away making this an ideal location for a coastal break all year round. The house has recently been extensively refurbished and is stylishly presented to provide a high standard of accommodation for traditional seaside holidays, family celebrations, cosy couples breaks or those simply looking to escape to a unique coastal location.

The accommodation is presented over three floors with five double bedrooms, two large single rooms, 4 en-suite bathrooms, a family bathroom and a pool changing room which includes a wet room. The ground floor reception rooms include a large snug/tv room with inglenook fireplace, a sitting room with stunning sea views, a delightful kitchen opening out into a full aspect green oak framed orangery where the dining room is located. In the warmer months the full aspect oak bi-fold doors in the orangery can be opened out onto the sandstone patio where there is an outdoor dining area, BBQ, herb garden and manicured terrace gardens that lead you up to a large heated swimming pool (seasonal).

LOCATION: Looking out across the dramatic South Devon countryside and coastline towards West Buckland, nearby Bantham beach and Burgh island, Higher Cross is situated in a unique location for a memorable holiday at any time of the year. The South West Coast Path - for stunning coastal walks to local beaches as well as the delightful villages of Thurlestone and Hope Cove - can be accessed easily from the house. Bantham & Bigbury Bay, popular with surfers, are just a short drive away whilst picturesque Salcombe, with its shops, art galleries, restaurants and pretty waterfront can be reached by car in 10-15 minutes.

VIEWS: Stunning sea views towards West Buckland, Bantham Beach and Burgh Island. Dartmoor is also visible at first floor level and from the garden, plus far reaching country views.

ENTRANCE: Access is off a private road, the driveway to the property leads around a beautifully maintained lawn and takes you up to the front door of the property. This leads you into an entrance lobby with plenty of hanging space for coats, boot storage and shoe racks. The oak stair case leads up from here to the first floor bedrooms.

CLOAKROOM BATHROOM: With W.C and basin.

SNUG: Great to relax in after a day on the beach. It has been stylishly decorated and furnished and has a large L shaped sofa, 50" Smart TV with Freeview, Apple TV box and a BlueRay DVD Player. The room also boasts a large inglenook fireplace with a wood burner, perfect for winter evenings.

FORMAL LOUNGE: This light and sunny south facing living area has spectacular views of the countryside and sea beyond. Beautifully presented with 4 Seater Sofa and 2 large snuggler chairs, a comprehensive library of books and a wall mounted wood burner fireplace.

KITCHEN/DINING ROOM:The elegantly designed and presented Neptune kitchen has attractive hand painted units, granite worktops, 4-oven Aga range cooker, large American style fridge-freezer which includes a wine fridge and ice maker, integrated dishwasher and Quooker boiling water tap. There is also a large central island that incorporates a breakfast bar.

DINING AREA & ORANGERY Has a large limed-oak table seating up to twelve comfortably (plus high-chair). Bi-folding doors lead out to a large patio, outdoor dining area, BBQ and beautiful Italian inspired terraced gardens.

UTILITY ROOM: Adjacent to the kitchen, houses a Belfast sink, fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer.

CINEMA/GAMES ROOM: A great place to relax and watch a film on the 65" Smart TV, play games on the XBOX or indulge in a game of pool on the bespoke pool table.

BEDROOMS: Seven in total, of which three are on the first floor.

Master Suite: The superb en-suite master bedroom has stunning ocean views through large french windows. It is furnished with an elegant king size chrome framed bed and Vi-Spring mattress, sliver painted bedside tables, wardrobe, chest of drawers, dressing table and stool. The en-suite has a wet room shower, large bath, double mirrored vanity unit with his & hers basins, w.c.and heated towel rail as well as beautiful views out to Dartmoor.

Garden View Room: Overlooking the front lawn, it has a white oak trimmed double bed with matching bedside table and wardrobe.

The Moors Room: Aptly named as it looks towards the rolling hills of Dartmoor, has a painted wooden-framed king size bed, bedside tables, wardrobes, drawers and a mirror.

Bea & Sam's Rooms: On the top floor there are two large single bedrooms, both have white painted furniture with single beds, bedside units and chest of drawers. One bedroom has an en-suite bathroom with a wet room shower, w.c, basin/vanity unit and heated towel rail.

Pool Suite: Situated at the opposite end of the house overlooking the swimming pool and rear terraced gardens, it is furnished with white painted oak trimmed king size bed and matching bedside units, large chest of drawer, dressing table and hanging space. The en-suite has a wet room shower, basin, w.c and heated towel rail.

The Dog House: A picturesque annexe at the rear of the property. Furnished with a small double bed, bedside units and a lime washed wardrobe. The en-suite has a wet room shower, w.c, and corner basin. The annexe also has a small kitchen and bar seating area, it was originally setup for holiday staff.

All duvets, pillows, bed linen and towels excluding beach towels are supplied.

VERANDAH: A recent addition to the house. A traditionally built green oak verandah on the south facing end of the property overlooks a pathway through the shrubs, rose bushes, lawn and decking area with beautiful views out to the countryside and ocean. A great place for a peaceful sun downer!

BATH/SHOWER ROOMS: In addition to the 4 en suite bathrooms (above) there is a further Family Bathroom on the first floor with a wet room shower and a large bath, wash basin/vanity unit, w.c., heated towel rails and a Pool Changing Room on the ground floor with access to the garden with an oak bench, hanging pegs, wet room shower, basin, w.c and heated towel rail.

OUTSIDE: There are lots of places to steal time in the established gardens, again totally transformed in 2012 and personally designed by the owners The entrance has a large grassed turning circle which leads you up to the house and entrances. Sandstone steps between the Boat house and Cinema room take you up into the rear gardens and the Swimming Pool area where there is plenty of space to relax in a perfect sun trap and for children to play on the lawned area as well as in the pool. To the left of the pool are the Italian inspired terraced gardens full of perennial flowers, shrubs, lavender and a herb garden perfect for creating culinary master pieces on the large BBQ just below on the patio area. There is also a pathway leading you up to the jacuzzi with the most spectacular views out to Dartmoor and the surrounding countryside.

Swimming Poo & Jacuzzi: Added when the House was refurbished this is a great addition to the property, the jacuzzi is a great treat after a good stomp around the local countryside, both are heated and open for use between May and October.

PARKING: Off road parking for at least six cars.

Fantastic house, great location and lovely hosts!

Thanks very much for a wonderful stay! Paul was a great host from start to finish of our trip and extremely welcoming. The house itself is great, plenty of space for a large family like ourselves and wonderfully presented. The hot tub and outdoor pool were fantastic and well maintained, as were the grounds & gardens. I'd love to come back again in the future and have already recommended to friends & family. Location is perfect with sea views and very close to Salcombe, Kingsbridge & Hope Cove - everything you need is within a short distance and our family all very much enjoyed the week stay. Paul is very helpful and made the whole process of booking etc. a breeze and was only a phone call away for any advice and assistance. I would also like to thank you for the welcome card & hamper which was a lovely personal touch, that got our stay off to a great start. Many thanks and we hope to visit again soon. Everything you could hope for! Brilliant!

We stayed during half-term week May/June 2017 with our family (10 adults and 3 infants aged 3-7) to celebrate my 65th birthday. The house has everything you want and is a stunning venue and the heated swimming pool was brilliant and extremely safe for the children to use with adult supervision. The house, recently converted, was clean and beautifully decorated.There are beautiful beaches and coastal walks all within 2 miles, admittedly through some vey narrow lanes but worth the effort when you get there. Salcombe and Kingsbridge are within 6 miles reach and food shopping is very plentiful in Kingsbridge - either mainline supermarkets or specialist butchers/fishmongers. There are also some great restaurants in the area. The fish and chips at the local Thurlestone Inn are fantastic. If we had one complaint and it would have been the only one, the internet did not work throughout our stay which was difficult for some of the adults who needed to stay in touch with work. Otherwise brilliant in every respect! Highly recommended!

Fabulous property with stunning views

Absolutely beautiful home with great access to local beaches, shopping and restaurants. Very private and the home has absolutely everything you could possibly need whilst on holiday. This really is a prime property and large groups of family and friends would be hard pushed to find anywhere better....
