Overview

About the property

6 bedroom, 4 bathroom with countryside views and walks and cycle path on door

Tissington Ford Barn is a Grade II listed stone barn conversion located in the Peak National Park near to Ashbourne and Bakewell. Beautifully located with scenic walks and cycle path from its door step. The holiday accommodation is designed to give our guests elegance with comfort and has been recently furnished with a contemporary country-styled ambience. This is the perfect place to unwind after your sight seeing and walks with your family or friends. THE POSSIBILITY OF HIRING YOUR OWN HOT TUB TOO FOR THAT SPECIAL GET TOGETHER!

The Barn is adjacent to a footpath and stream and joins the High Peak, Tissington Trail and conveniently connects to Carsington Water (the famous Ellen McCarthur learnt to sail) and offers our guests good walking and cycling opportunities from the holiday cottage.

There is so much to do, see and explore in this area with some of the finest country stately homes in England to visit such as Chatsworth House - famous by the documentary series and also the much loved television series of Pride & Prejudice. Jane Austen fans will love the estate and gardens as much as the children! There is also the hauntingly enchanting Haddon Hall to visit which is a particular favourite of mine, where Jayne Eyre was screened from and are both an easy scenic car ride of 25 minutes away. Bakewell is a stunning Peak Park town and every Monday has a large busy market and various shops to explore. Bakewell is still open for business on a Sunday and also gives you a chance to wander along the River Derwent and feed the ducks and maybe take a bite of the real Bakewell Pudding!

If your love is for the sea, even in the middle of the countryside we can offer you Carsington Water as an alternative. A stunning setting just a couple of miles away you can do most water sports from or take a gentle walk around the area. Theme parks are readily available and the most famous in the area is Alton Towers only a 30 minute drive away and is set in stunning scenery. 20 minutes drive North through quiet lanes takes you to Gullivers Kingdom for the younger members of the group or The heights of Abraham exploring the caves at Matlock Bath.

The walks are endless and depending on your ability we have mountains to hills to valleys surrounding the Peak Park to explore. One of the most famous gentle walks is the Dovedales and is only a 5 minute drive away. Take a visit to Alstonefield or Hartington, Ilam and of course Tissington to see some of our local award winning villages in the area.

The accommodation includes:

The Main Barn; Enter into a welcoming Kitchen and Dining area with country painted kitchen cupboards, and a table and bench to seat 12 persons. Door to a large oak vaulted ceiling lounge with three large sofas and two armchairs, country dresser and chest and TV/DVD. A door leading to a wide L-shaped hall with Four bedrooms, the master with a large en-suite and one family Bathroom both fitted with Vileroy Boch suite and wall tiles. Across the courtyard is the Annexe with 2 further bedrooms both with en-suite wet rooms, walk-in wardrobes and kitchen. 'The Granary' Bedroom Suite can be separated or adjoined to 'The Miller's Rest' Bedroom Suite depending on your requirements. The Miller's Rest has its own separate kitchen with fridge, sink and microwave. There is a travel cot and highchair available upon request. The garden and grounds are secluded and have views of the surrounding countryside and is a lovely area to sit and relax in after a day of sightseeing or walking. There is a secure bike shed for your bicycles in the courtyard for your use. If you are interested in hiring a hot tub, please contact the owner for more details on booking.

We receive enquiries regarding our winter offers and we have now simplified this to a SPECIAL DISCOUNTED PRICE for a MID WEEK WINTER GETAWAY OFFER of £650.00 which includes a 4 night stay Monday to Friday only NOT including the weekend. Please email Sandy@tissingtonfordbarn.co.uk to reserve your Mid Week Winter Deal.

About Sandra Potter

I grew up in London and relocated with work to Derbyshire. It was after exploring the area that I realised I would never return to city life - the fresh air and freedom of the countryside and hills made me feel alive. I have now been lucky to live in the area for 30 years and in this time I have married and have three wonderful children who have grown up in this glorious part of England!

Our favourite places to walk from Tissington Ford Barn is the Dovedales and Ilam Estate, Tissington, Alstonefield and Mildale, Carsington and the Chatsworth Estate. If you like to venture a bit further then north of Bakewell is some outstanding walks and views. Monsal Head near Ashford On The Water, Curbar and Frogatt Edge, Stanedge Edge near,Hathersage and Kinder Scout are some of the ones which stand out if you are a keen walker. There is also Buxton Town which is another lovely day out with outstanding walks on the North side.

Superb accommodation in excellent location

  • 5 of 5

For our group the property was ideal. Ample parking for 6 cars, adjacent to a B road. Furnishing were excellent and the kitchen extremely well equipped, the lounge very comfortable. A couple of bedrooms in the annex also suited the requirements of our group. One of the rooms was a little small to accommodate two single beds and would probably have been better with either one single or a twin bunk bed. Very convenient for Ashbourne and access to the Derbyshire Dales. I would certainly be happy to stay at this property again.

A great place for a family get together

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely family Christmas at Tissington Ford Barn (five couples and a small baby). The property was just as described and very well appointed, clean and well maintained. The large lounge was a great focal point during the evenings and the kitchen had all the utensils and crockery needed to cook Christmas dinner for 10. We had some lovely walks in the surrounding area, and cycles along the Tissington and High Peaks trails.

Lovely weekend away

  • 5 of 5

The barn was beautiful! Comfortable and in a lovely area. Sandy was really helpful before we arrived and was quick to answer any questions we had. We had no problems with working the heating or hot water, and there was a helpful house manual for anything we weren’t sure of.

The hot tub was also an excellent addition, and highly recommended!

We had a lovely stay, and would recommend the house and host.

Lovely Setting For A Family Get Together

  • 4 of 5

The all ground floor accommodation suited our family party really well as our two less mobile family members not only had a delightful en-suite room but found the two large communal rooms really accessible too. The large and well equipped kitchen was our setting for chatting over meals and the comfortable sitting room just right for board games in the evenings.

Thanks very much to Sandy for the provision of a bbq. The outside picnic benches perfect places to chat during bbq cooking, although my favourite outside seating area was the round bench at a higher level, giving views over the area.

All bedrooms really comfortable and made into doubles or twins according to our specifications. Bathrooms too were immaculate.

Walks along the Tissington Trail start close by.

Good e-mail communication with Sandy the owner prior to our stay and the owner's awareness of septic tank management reassuring.

We would certainly recommend TFB to other familis.
