Overview

About the property

6 bedroom, 4 bathroom with countryside views and walks and cycle path on door

Tissington Ford Barn is a Grade II listed stone barn conversion located in the Peak National Park near to Ashbourne and Bakewell. Beautifully located with scenic walks and cycle path from its door step. The holiday accommodation is designed to give our guests elegance with comfort and has been recently furnished with a contemporary country-styled ambience. This is the perfect place to unwind after your sight seeing and walks with your family or friends. THE POSSIBILITY OF HIRING YOUR OWN HOT TUB TOO FOR THAT SPECIAL GET TOGETHER!

The Barn is adjacent to a footpath and stream and joins the High Peak, Tissington Trail and conveniently connects to Carsington Water (the famous Ellen McCarthur learnt to sail) and offers our guests good walking and cycling opportunities from the holiday cottage.

There is so much to do, see and explore in this area with some of the finest country stately homes in England to visit such as Chatsworth House - famous by the documentary series and also the much loved television series of Pride & Prejudice. Jane Austen fans will love the estate and gardens as much as the children! There is also the hauntingly enchanting Haddon Hall to visit which is a particular favourite of mine, where Jayne Eyre was screened from and are both an easy scenic car ride of 25 minutes away. Bakewell is a stunning Peak Park town and every Monday has a large busy market and various shops to explore. Bakewell is still open for business on a Sunday and also gives you a chance to wander along the River Derwent and feed the ducks and maybe take a bite of the real Bakewell Pudding!

If your love is for the sea, even in the middle of the countryside we can offer you Carsington Water as an alternative. A stunning setting just a couple of miles away you can do most water sports from or take a gentle walk around the area. Theme parks are readily available and the most famous in the area is Alton Towers only a 30 minute drive away and is set in stunning scenery. 20 minutes drive North through quiet lanes takes you to Gullivers Kingdom for the younger members of the group or The heights of Abraham exploring the caves at Matlock Bath.

The walks are endless and depending on your ability we have mountains to hills to valleys surrounding the Peak Park to explore. One of the most famous gentle walks is the Dovedales and is only a 5 minute drive away. Take a visit to Alstonefield or Hartington, Ilam and of course Tissington to see some of our local award winning villages in the area.

The accommodation includes:

The Main Barn; Enter into a welcoming Kitchen and Dining area with country painted kitchen cupboards, and a table and bench to seat 12 persons. Door to a large oak vaulted ceiling lounge with three large sofas and two armchairs, country dresser and chest and TV/DVD. A door leading to a wide L-shaped hall with Four bedrooms, the master with a large en-suite and one family Bathroom both fitted with Vileroy Boch suite and wall tiles. Across the courtyard is the Annexe with 2 further bedrooms both with en-suite wet rooms, walk-in wardrobes and kitchen. 'The Granary' Bedroom Suite can be separated or adjoined to 'The Miller's Rest' Bedroom Suite depending on your requirements. The Miller's Rest has its own separate kitchen with fridge, sink and microwave. There is a travel cot and highchair available upon request. The garden and grounds are secluded and have views of the surrounding countryside and is a lovely area to sit and relax in after a day of sightseeing or walking. There is a secure bike shed for your bicycles in the courtyard for your use. If you are interested in hiring a hot tub, please contact the owner for more details on booking.

We receive enquiries regarding our winter offers and we have now simplified this to a SPECIAL DISCOUNTED PRICE for a MID WEEK WINTER GETAWAY OFFER of £650.00 which includes a 4 night stay Monday to Friday only NOT including the weekend. Please email to reserve your Mid Week Winter Deal.

About Sandra Potter

I grew up in London and relocated with work to Derbyshire. It was after exploring the area that I realised I would never return to city life - the fresh air and freedom of the countryside and hills made me feel alive. I have now been lucky to live in the area for 30 years and in this time I have married and have three wonderful children who have grown up in this glorious part of England!

Our favourite places to walk from Tissington Ford Barn is the Dovedales and Ilam Estate, Tissington, Alstonefield and Mildale, Carsington and the Chatsworth Estate. If you like to venture a bit further then north of Bakewell is some outstanding walks and views. Monsal Head near Ashford On The Water, Curbar and Frogatt Edge, Stanedge Edge near,Hathersage and Kinder Scout are some of the ones which stand out if you are a keen walker. There is also Buxton Town which is another lovely day out with outstanding walks on the North side.

A gorgeous barn in a great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Tissington Ford Barn as a group of 12 friends. We would highly recommend this gorgeous home to everyone! The barn is located in a great area in the Peaks with a variety of walks nearby, and the house and especially kitchen are amazingly equipped. It literally had everything we could wish for!

Communication with Sandra was great - she was a lovely, warm and welcoming host, with great recommendations, advice and the offer of any help if needed. The welcome pack was a lovely generous touch and went beyond what we would expect!

Thanks Sandra for a brilliant stay, we would absolutely love to return!

Owner's Response: Thank you Natasha for your kind comments. I try to make sure all my guests have a great holiday stay even if the weather like snowfall causes you problems getting out and about! Having real fires and comfortable accommodation with plenty of kitchen equipment, makes cooking more enjoyable when you want to stay in and not go too far. I hope you are able to come back and experience the new secluded waterside picnic area we have created. All the best to you and your family. Kind regards Sandy

Beautiful, comfortable cottage.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage certainly lived up to expectations even though the weather did not. We were a party of ten and stayed for a week but had plenty of space and found everything provided to be both plentiful and of a high standard. The owners were pleasant and helpful and we would certainly return.

Beautiful barn in a gorgeous setting! Perfect break away!

  • 5 of 5

First all, I want to start off by saying how helpful the owners of the house are. We were unsure whether we’d make it due to the snow but Sandy kept us informed and updated before arriving to make sure access on the roads was going to be possible. The owners couldn’t have been more helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

The barn is absolutely gorgeous. There were 11 of us altogether and the large lounge never made it feel cramped and has plenty of seating for everyone. The log fire was lovely and made the room really cosy in the evenings. The owners left us plenty of wood and kindling to be able to make a fire every day while there. The kitchen has everything you possibly need to cook meals and the large table was great for everyone to sit together and eat.

Everyone commented on how comfortable the beds were. The annexe is a great add on to the barn and gives that added feel of extra space.

Plenty of parking for 5 cars right outside the barn door which is a godsend when you have so much stuff to unpack!

Went for a walk in the snow through Tissington which was just lovely. Plenty of gorgeous scenery and lots of pheasants and sheep along the way! Found a pub after about 3 miles of walking (the beers went down a treat and the landlord was pleased to see us all!)

The only thing I would say is (which isn’t really a negative, it’s just something that was pointed out by everyone) that it would be handy to have a lock on the main bathroom door.

Thank you to Sandy and hubby for keeping in touch with us and planning our route so we were able to make it there in the snow.

We will hopefully be back in the summer when we can sit outside and admire the view!
