About Mary Minchell

I live in Weardale because it is a beautiful place. I live with my husband and my dog. We enjoy walking, and sailing at the Derwent reservoir which is nearby.

Mary Minchell purchased this house in 2015

Why Mary Minchell chose Wolsingham

We renovated the cottage ourselves and wanted to bring back some of its original character. It is in the heart of the town and close to everything. The town is so pretty and peaceful. I used to come the town to visit relatives when I was a child and now we live here too, having moved here permanently a year ago. The property is lovely and clean, warm and comfortable, with some period features which give it character and uniqueness.

What makes this house unique

The cottage is more than 150 years old and has had various things changed over the years. We are trying to put some features back and still have a few things that we would like to do. The fire place in the kitchen was completely bricked up when we got it. Also the sitting room fireplace was blocked up. The tiled hearth was found under the carpets but we installed an original fire and surround. The stone walls make it a great insulator and keep the place at an even temperature all year round. Having such a lovely position in the town means you can walk to all ameneties. The town of Wolsingham has all amenities and is a lovely place for a relaxing break in beautiful Weardale. It is also a great place to use as a base for travelling around the tourist attractions of County Durham.

Clean comfortable cottage nicely furnished & good quiet location.

  • 5 of 5

Lovely cottage with great dog walks from the door. The cottage felt spacious and we could have spent all the time in the kitchen. It was good to have WiFi. The only downside for us was there is no toilet upstairs.Thank you for having us to stay.

Quirky Quaint Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Sweet little cottage, that was spotlessly clean. with a lovely comfy bed.

The cottage does have parking spot at rear of property but only for small car, although parking Is not a problem on the road. There are plenty of shops and cafes close buy with a great Fish n chip close at hand.

After many country walks & trips to the Beamish Museum we looked forward to arriving back at Dipper cottage for our evening unwinds.

The owner Mary has very good communication and we look forward to returning to Dipper Cottage at some point in the future.

Great location, comfortable, clean & had everything we all needed! A home from home!

  • 5 of 5

Lovely village setting with shop, pub, riverside walk from the door. Cottage was everything we needed for our break- the wifi was super for the kids too! Clean, comfortable, all the mod cons. Parking was a bonus too- good to be able to park right outside the rear of the property. Really comfortable beds, hot water for showers was great. Also, in some holiday cottages you might have an old, tiny tv but the TV here is great- nice big screen, great picture quality- it all helps to make you feel at home! We didn't need the wood burner on as the weather was great (hurrah) & the central heating was more than enough to keep us toasty warm. I highly recommend the cottage & the owner! Was a real gem & one we hope to return to again & again!
