CATHEDRAL VIEW HOUSE - IN MORE DETAIL

If you are anything like us then when we go away for a well earned break then we do NOT settle for 2nd best - Cathedral View House is in the heart of the city within easy walking distance of all tourist attractions, shops, the famous Norwich market square, restaurants and bars. Please note - if you want 100% complete noise free then a city break is not for you.

If you don't already know Norwich then you soon see this as an idyllic historic city with it's medieval city wall still on view, fabulous city walks, a huge variety of great things to do, hidden passages, river boat trips, lots of churches, history and plenty to do in the evening.

On top of this you can be in the countryside within minutes or on the beach in 30 minutes as Norfolk boasts some of the most picturesque coastal vistas and resorts that the UK can offer.

CATHEDRAL STREET - is just off the main strip and next to everything you need to make your stay perfect. Minutes away from Norwich Cathedral Close, food shops, bars and restaurants and a 5 minute walk from the main station. We are confident you will have a wonderful stay with added style and panache - all our many satisfied guests agree.

Cathedral View House is situated 100 yards from the main strip of Prince of Wales Rd - which is a super place for bars, restaurants and with it the usual harmless and lively hustle and bustle at the weekends.

Cathedral View House was built in the 1850's - 168 years ago and counting - with it's wonderful charms comes the wonderful original features that history brings - wooden sash windows that are single glazed, a quirky hallway, a steepish stairway with an essential hand-rail), period features, a great shower (sorry - not a bath), a door onto the street, a quirky courtyard area and all the wonderful charms of a modern house. There is a small outside area which is shared with other houses - it is secluded and private with chairs and a table - there to enjoy a drink during the warmer months.

Please note that the stairs are quite steep and therefore the house is unsuitable for guests who will struggle with stairs. We have been advised to encourage guests to bring their own travel cots for children who need them - due to hygiene reasons.

THE HOUSE - We guarantee the house will be pristinely presented and clean for the start of your stay. You will enjoy the cosy settings of a country styled self contained house whilst only being minutes from all the action that Norwich has to offer.

There are two good sized double bedrooms with cosy double beds (1 bedroom can have a single bed added on requested/if needed so we can accommodate 5 guests - 2 adults with 3 children), and we have a double or single air bed in the living room (on request too and you will pleased to know that it comes with an electric pump) so we can accommodate 6 guests (7 on occasions), free unlimited Sky broadband and Wi-fi, 60+ channels on Sky TV (Sky Go enables you to watch TV anywhere in the House on a tablet or smart phone) for those times when you want to put your feet up elsewhere in the house.

There is a modern shower room and a kitchen which is fully equipped with all you need to knock up a fabulous meal (electric ceramic hob, electric oven, microwave etc) and a tumble dryer, washing machine and dish washer to make life easy during your stay. We also have some choice novels/books/guides, some DVDs and board games for you during those down times. The living room is cosy and has a flat screen TV, DVD and SKY TV for those moments when you want to relax in the sofa and arm chair.

We love to provide all our guests with as much information about the house and what to do as we can. We have collected a great selection of what's on guide, tourist leaflets and art/culture guides and calendars. We also provide a top tips guide to where to eat, where to go and places to see - we hope this is a great help to you. The info file also has lots of info about the house, which we also hope is useful. One thing to note - this house is a house which is purposely designed to cater for the holiday maker and is not where we live - on too many occasions we have been away and found that we have landed in a house where the host also lives(d) - where it is not so clean, has personal clutter and where the house is a wee bit tired and grubby. Cathedral View House is presented to the highest level possible and we are sure you will have an excellent stay.

THE SHORT WALK FROM THE MAIN NORWICH TRAIN STATION - which links to all major UK routes - Is only a short walk (about 500 metres or so) up Prince of Wales Rd on the right hand side - Crossing the River over a bridge, passing places like The Compleat Angler pub, Kwik fit Tyres, Mercy Nightclub on your right until you come to Cathedral Street on your right - walk to the end and you will find Cathedral House at the end of the street (Black gloss painted door and grey brick exterior).

For the few coming by bus or coach the main bus station is only about 1km away/15 mins walk.

CAR PARKING - is not free but thankfully very cheap.

There are many options so please contact me for further details. There are some free on street parking about 3/4 mile away which do prove to be popular if you are on a budget. Rose Lane multi-storey car park is minutes walk and is a secure 24/7 manned operation - most if not all guests park here - please ask for details on booking.

NORWICH SHOPPING - you will simply have on your doorstep and within 5 minutes walk all you need and one of the best shopping experiences in the UK.

CASTLE MALL SHOPPING - 300 metres from the house with all the usual shops you would expect including Boots the Chemist.

CHAPELFIELDS SHOPPING MALL - 15+ min walk into the city with even better shops.

Main shopping areas are mostly pedestrianised so head for Tombland which is a 4 min walk and onto Queens St and London St and you are there.

St Benedicts and the Lanes of Pottergate - my favourite part where lots of local shops will give you one of the most eclectic and diverse shopping experiences.

CLOSE BY - there are 20 restaurants and great pubs within 5 mins walk of the house and over 100 within 10 mins walk from the house. Highlights for me are The Rooftop Gardens - brand new in Oct 2016, 6 floors up with views across Norwich - do book, Bishops (10 mins) - Alex is great and the food exquisite, Benedict's - just Google him as he is amazing, - do book and of course all the usuals from Jamie's, Turtle Bay, Pizza Express etc etc - all very good.

Norwich enjoys a mass of cultural attractions, excellent restaurants, several theatres, a castle, a 900 year old Cathedral which is literally on your doorstep and is set in the largest and most amazing Cathedral Closes' in the UK and not to mention one of the best shopping centres in Britain. Everything is within walking distance so you will be spoilt for choice.

Norfolk also has a wealth of amazing traditional coastal resorts which are only 30 minutes or so away by car and will be sure to keep you wooed and busy and of course easy by train.

WALKING - the river is only 5 mins away with wonderful walks and please do look up the infamous city walks for those who love historic buildings, churches and medieval splendour. We even have a great GHOST walk which is a must especially in the winter nights.

For those football lovers; Carrow road is but a short walk (1km) along the river and we welcome away supporters who want to stay.

If it's shopping then Norwich has a huge pedestrianised centre which includes the big chains but a wonderful selection of independent shops with a hugely eclectic air which caters for all tastes.

Norwich is famous for its huge number of beautiful churches which attract visitors from all over the country and world. Norwich Castle and it's wonderful museum is also only minutes away and we are certain a visit here will be perfect for those rainy days.

Let's not forget the amazing Norfolk Broads and famous traditional coastal resorts that spread along the East Anglian coast - you can be there by car in 25 minutes or more.

We are dog lovers and are happy to have you and your pet stay (terms and conditions do apply and we reserve the right to disallow this).

Please contact us to discuss your options and we will do all we can to make your stay as good as it can be.

About Graham and Collette

Collette and I have travelled extensively and would love you to sample the delights of Norwich.

Collette and I have lived in this amazing city of Norwich for the past 22 years. I am a school teacher and I work close by at Norwich School (next to the Cathedral). Collette is an interior designer - I am sure you will soon be enjoying the fruits of her labour when you visit our beautiful centrally located cottage. We are both dog lovers and would love to also invite you and your dog to stay as we both know how unbelievably difficult it is to take your beloved dog with you (conditions apply)

We live nearby and would love you to come and sample the delights of this medieval, cultural and vibrant capital city of East Anglia.

Do get in touch to discuss your stay and to ask any questions you desire.

Graham and Collette purchased this house in 2016

Why Graham and Collette chose Norwich

This Boutique styled house will give you all you need to make you stay memorable. For the lazy moments there is a flat screen TV with 60+ Sky TV channels and unlimited wifi. The well equipped kitchen will enable you to cater for your stay and i am sure the power shower will take away the stresses and strains of a long walk through the city streets. The coffee machine will spark your day and you'll be able to knock up your culinary classics in our lovely kitchen diner. You are simply amongst the action in this house with city and river walks, city shopping, museums, Cathedral and it's Close, bars, Al Fresco dining and a great selection of nightlife, not to mention the numerous art galleries, theatres, cinemas and cultural attractions. You can even be in the countryside and next to the sea in less than 30 minutes by car.

There are 2 double bedrooms (one can be converted into a single with a double - on request) and the living room can also convert into a room with a single or double air bed. All the mod cons you desire - Wi-Fi broadband, Sky TV, Blu-Ray DVD player, Microwave, washing machine and tumble drier etc etc - surrounded by country-styled boutique and vintage furniture.

What makes this house unique

Cathedral View House is literally in the centre of Norwich city centre - on your doorstep will be all you need to have a fantastic break with your friends and family. Norwich has churches, pubs, restaurants, culture, vibrancy, fun and medieval streets not to mention some of the best shopping in the UK. If this is not enough then the Norfolk Broads and some of the best coastal resorts (not Gt Yarmouth I am afraid to say) are within 30 minutes drive. If you dont' have a car then the main train station and bus station are 500 yards walk away.

Pretty little house....

  • 1 of 5

....but the week was a disaster: the house was not clean upon arrival, there was an attempt to unlock the door after I had settled in; the heating dident work, because the WIFI dident work and it took good Graham three days to organise the latter.

The little house is near the station and the neighbourhood favoured by students, thus maybe if that had been known in advance it would not have come as such a surprise, that as of 6pm the house next door seems to serve as a discotheque with endless booming hard disco sound, endless and always the same beat; and poor Graham tried to solve that one too.

In short, not an experience one would wish to repeat, despite an owner who tried to solve each and every one of the disasters.

Owner's Response: Dear reader - pls take this review as a PINCH OF SALT - it is wrong and inacccurate. I suspect this is a close competitor who wants to belittle our lovely house as she mentioned she knew someone who had a place nearby. This guest was a problem from the start and whined on and on and on for her whole stay. She left it 4 days before she called me about the possible wi fi problem - after investigating - there was no problem other than the fact that she messed with the cables and kept turning it off. It was clear from the conversations I had with this unreasonable lady (from Switzerland) that she was lonely and attention seeking. I have never met such a woman in all my life. I am asking the website to remove this as it bears NO resemblance to what happened. Please see other reviews as an indicator of the accuracy & high quality of this wonderful period home. After investigating the noise issue where I sat outside the house I went in & found NO problem - another false claim. The house is and is always immaculately clean with fresh linen and towels throughout. Our professional cleaners are fantastic and have never let us down. The fact this lady said she was going to arrive by train at 5pm meant that my wife went to the house at 12 noon on the day of her arrival - unbeknown to us this lady checked in 3 hours early, hence the reason why my wife tried to enter the house. It is no problem getting early check in I hasten to add but to arrive 5 hours early and not tell us give you (I hope) an indication of her arrogance and unreasonable stances from start to finish. As a host this is our first complete fruit cake who has stayed in this house since it went live 1 year ago - so I guess it was only a matter of time so we have been fortunate. I have to say - that the state of the house (after only 6 nights at the house) was pretty bad - my cleaner reported damage to the towels and stains to the bed linen. The lady left rubbish all over the place, mouldy stuff in the fridge, the toilet was a shambles and she had managed to scrape the paint work down the stairs with something. She even left the door open when she left and the house smelt of smoke and other unpleasantaries. Her 2nd payment to me failed 3 times and she actually stayed at the house without paying the full rate - giving some spurious reason about why her Amex card was not working etc etc - she did eventually pay 10 days after her departure (luckily) but did NOT pay the full amount.

Super accommodation in a lovely city

The house was lovely, very stylishly decorated and had everything we required. It was also very handy for access to the town with a Tesco Express- just a few minutes away.

A perfect house for visiting Norwich

  • 5 of 5

I had a great time with my family in this beautiful house! The owners are really kind, always helpful and asking all our enquiries at any time. The house has been totally renewed a few months ago, so it is very comfortable and everything works perfectly. It is also very well located and you can walk easily to visit the centre town. There is a parking nearby cheap and safe. So, I would recommend absolutely this house for staying in Norwich!

Great property in a central location

  • 5 of 5

Short stay visiting family. Lovely decor throughout, central location made it easy to venture out. Parking is a bit of a pain due to council restrictions outside the property. Owners were very helpful and friendly

Owner's Response: Dear Dominic Thanks for your lovely review. It was a pleasure to have you and your family stay. We hope you will return again soon. Parking is an issue with all cities but we hope the location of the house meant you were able to easily access all parts of his wonderful city. At least the parking is still competitively priced at as little as £1.80 per overnight stay or only £1.20 per hour on the streets. There is even free on street parking about a mile or so away for those planning a longer stay. Anyway. All the very best Graham and Collette

Owner's Response: Hi Janet thanks for your review. I guess this being a city centre place means the odd and rare spillage of noise may well be a trade off for how well this house is located. We hope it did not spoil your enjoyment. all best and hope to see you again soon Graham and Collette
