A delightful gite in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

I had stayed at Les Gites de Lascaux before, but on this occasion I rented two gites next to each other for myself, my sister, her husband and their two children. We found the place well prepared, clean and perfect for our needs. Ian and Ruth, the owner of the gites were most helpful, showed us around and explained everything to us. They gave us information about the town and the local places of interests. The gites are in walking distance from the centre if Montignac, there are many cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, and tea shops and ice cream places in the town, literally minutes away from the Gites. There is a Boulangerie and pastery shop nearby with wonderful bread, croissants and other sweet temptations for your breakfast table! I walked to this shop every morning before breakfast, did the shopping, and sat with the family outside in the garden and had our wonderful and leisurely breakfast before heading out for our daily sightseeing. On Wednesday, there is a market along the river Vezere, which goes through the town and is great for buying fruits and vegetables and many other local and regional delicacies. We loved our stay at Les Gites de Lascaux and found it very convenient that we could have two gites next to each other. The third gite was occupied at the time by an America writer who was writing a book about the region and the Lascaux. I highly recommend the place for its locatin, comfort, helpful and friendly owners, and last but not least, its excellent value for money.

Montignac is 10 minutes walking distance from the cottages, there is canoe hire, crazy golf and a cinema plus all the amenities you could need, and plenty of coffee bars, bars, restaurants,.

If Pre History interests you then you have many sites to choose from within a short driving distance, Château de Losse is close by and La Roque Saint-Christophe situated between Montignac and Les Eyzies and la Font de Gaume are definately worth a visit.

The medieval market town of Sarlat is less than a half hour drive and holds cultural events in the summer. La-Roque-Gageac and the ancient city of Domme, known as the Acropolis of the Dordogne, are less than an hour’s drive.
